First off, I read this after Christmas and it was much better than it would've been prior to the holiday. Cuz I love Christmas and I wouldn't like the grinch-iness, but after Christmas, well, I'm done so I didn't mind someone hating on Christmas. And I could appreciate how irritating the crowds would be etc.

Chpt 1-9: (view spoiler)[The Book of Dares is very cool, but Lily didn't even come up with the idea. Langston and Benny did. I was impressed with a teenage boy that would not give up after Fat Hoochie Prom Queen and would actually handle The Joy of Gay Sex, but I don't know if that is someone who I would actually date. Cuz that's a stretch even for my straight male friends who enjoy reading and bookstores. And the friends I know craziest to not be phased would not be in the bookstore in that section.

Lily forgets to leave the notebook, what an idiot. Why didn't Dash stay and listen to the bands and meet her? I was annoyed that Lily didn't consider a $25 entrance fee to leave the notebook at the Wax Museum an inconvenience. I know few teenagers that have $25 in disposable income on them without planning. I was explaining the book to someone and I said that it was sooo cool to think of a guy (view spoiler)[who would play the whole scavenger hunt thing and be into books. But I thought of my male friends who read and are good sports who would pursue the scavenger hunt and the only straight ones that I would consider dating would balk at the Joy of Gay Sex. So who exactly would get to the contact point?

I'm trying to get into the Christmas spirit but I forgot that dash has roughly the same thoughts on Christmas as I do and that this book was probably not the best idea to achieve maximum spirit

but I am seeming to enjoy this just as much as when I first read it which is good and surprising because of how much my tastes have changed since then

but wow rereading a book almost exactly 2 years later is such a weird experience. I just graduated high school so obviously everything is all looking back on how much I've changed over the years and stuff but nothing has made it so obvious than this somehow? I rated this 4 stars first read and only 3 this time and I don't know if it's just because of how my rating system has kinda changed or if it's because of all of the issues I now have with this book that I probably never thought about 2 years ago.

Chapters 1-10

(view spoiler)[ so let's talk about the dichotomy between these two characters. Dash in terms of background is the complete opposite of Lily. Lily has been surrounded by family members her entire life. Her parents have been happily married for 25 years. Dash can't seem to focus on the positive. His father has been an absent figure and has opted to spend the holidays alone. And yet they seem to compliment each other intellectually. The first five chapters are very funny. I can just picture this guy holding those books... but I have to say I work with teenagers and none of them talk like this. Or make references to Proust. I'm lucky if I can get them to read half the time. They seem more college age to me. I am picturing Dash as a 22 year old English Major. Santa chapter was just weird and somewhat creepy. But I think it is so funny. She thinks he loves Christmas and then sends him to Macys. Dash is a bit of a downer. He needs Lily to raise his spirits. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ I find the characters rather whimsical. Dash sending Lily to a night club at 3 in the morning was a tad surprising. I like the conversation between the aunt and Dash. The scene in the park didn't seem believable. A baby comes flying out a stroller because of a dog... tried to picture this in my head. I guess it is possible. I just want Sofia to go back to Spain already. Thirbaud is a jerk.
