Do you have a favorite tree?

Gail, out of all the questions in all the groups, you had to ask this one! LOL! Unique way to plug a book! I talk to all my plants - I know it makes me sound like Prince Charles - and cuckoo - but it's good. No, none are my 'confidantes' and none are like the one from Lord of the Rings either! There are the evergreens Alstonia, Jacaranda and the fruit trees - I'm partial to the mango and golden apple one.

Your story sounds nice, but atleast Mrs. Miniver had a ghost and not a tree for a hugger!

I asked my husband what he thought my favorite tree was. He first said "Christmas tree" and, then, Acacia. I do love both but neither are on my property at the moment. However, I have loved a big, old tree - an oak with my swing in it. Yes, I talked to it and I hugged it; it didn't talk or hug me back. But, it was a friendly thing and kind. It kept my bedroom shaded in the hot Texas summers and gave me a cooler place to sit and play. Its seasons marked 10 years of my life and its beauty and strength live in my memory though, sadly, it was gone the last time I passed by my childhood home. The wrench to my heart told me, I could never love another tree as purely as the big, old oak that held my swing.

... where I grew up. It was huge and split in two by a lightening bolt; One side was upright and fully alive, the other was laying in and out of the water giving us a wealth of creative play options. It was called the Old Broken Down. Yep, that's my favorite tree!

The Forester

I have several, white pine is properly my number 1 pick because it is majestic & beautiful, & grows above the general forest canopy. The cover photo of my book, THE FORESTER, is of a stand of white pine with sunlight streaming through the branches. I also love sugar maple because of its fall color. I lived in the Adirondacks for 35 years & have a photo book of this region entitled, ADIRONDACK MOMENTS & there is a chapter on trees. I taught forestry for 30 years & foresters love trees.

I also love birch trees. I live in NH and see them often. Particularly beautiful when dressed in snow.

Sounds kind of cheesy being from Canada and all, but my fav tree is a maple. We dont have them out west so I love going home to Ottawa in the summer and or fall to see them and their colourful leaves.

Really any trees in eastern Canada are beautiful in the fall!
