Megan Smith | 4 comments I want to read an issue of Ploughshares for this one. Can anyone recommend a good issue? Readers of Ploughshares, what has been your favorite issue?

There are tons online, both digital and to be purchased in hard copy through magazine websites and Amazon. Most libraries have at least a few, and if you live somewhere that still has newsstands and/or independent bookstores they can be found there as well.

Bonnie G. (narshkite) | 1413 comments McSweeney's has a "2040" edition they did in partnership with the NRDC that is all about climate change. It depends on how one interprets the prompts, but if you use this one for your litmag it could also count as a book about climate change (you decide if a magazine counts as a book, but people use picture-books, so....) Also there is a great story by Tommy Orange who is enrolled Cheyenne so at least one Native American. If interested, you can order it here https://store.mcsweeneys.net/products...

Thanks, Bonnie! I just heard about this on the Living on Earth podcast. They say: "A new 'climate fiction' issue from the literary publication McSweeney's enlists notable authors to pen short stories envisioning climate disruption." Luis Alberto Urrea has a piece in there and reads some on the show. https://www.npr.org/podcasts/38144426... (Jan. 10 episode)

Sherri Harris | 240 comments I read the January issue of The New Yorker. I read it free on the rb app. I also saw it for free on Amazon Prime.

Hope Nilges | 12 comments Book Riot recommended multiple online choices and I’ll probably go with one of those but I’m curious... digital magazines don’t seem to be laid out as traditional issues and instead feature articles posted at different times. At what point is this task “done” if you can’t gauge it by reading an issue of a magazine? Just trying to clarify my thinking for this one.

Sarah (mrsessess) | 2 comments I purchased a copy of McSweeney’s 50th Issue to read. I was surprised at how thick that bad boy was!! I’m excited about it because until this challenge I didn’t know it existed!

Tracy (tracyisreading) So, I read a digital copy of BookPage, but since it was all reviews, lists and a few author interviews I kept feeling like I cheated (again LOL, I did with the poetry audiobook, and also the page counts on the sci- fi novella). To make myself feel better about that, I jumped online and found a site called moonglassmag.com. Mission accomplished ( and it was super short). This was just one of those prompts I wanted to be done with.

Most bookstores carry some in the magazine section!"

Pretty much every library has them in their online (often through RB Digital) and paper collections. And many put their archive online for free or a small fee.

Lara Maynard | 12 comments Am reading an issue of Granta Magazine and/or a local Newfoundland one called Riddle Fence.

Emerging Writer | 106 comments I read an issue of Harvard Review and really enjoyed it. As with all anthologized works, it is a bit of a mixed bag. But I was impressed with the quality overall and three of the pieces especially resonated with me.

Denise | 27 comments I read a quarterly edition of Pop Shots.

Sabrina | 5 comments I think I'm looking to read an edition of a publication that focuses on flash fiction (fiction less than 1000 words)...anyone have suggestions?

I second this recommendation. I am a subscriber and have been for years. I look forward to every issue.

Marie (marie123) | 20 comments I am an audiobook person due to some dyslexia and attention struggles, so this is probably the most daunting item on the list. Since there don't seem to be an audio options for literary magazines, can anybody point me in the direction of one that might be on the shorter side?

I haven’t listened to it, but this looks promising (“a literary magazine for your ears”).

I did a Google search for "audio literary magazine," and found another magazine (http://boundoff.com/) and this article listing other options (http://melodicallychallenged.org/?p=785 ). The article is from 2015, so the information is not current.
