November's reads are....

newest »

My internet has been down for the last few days. The poll is closed now and it was CLOSE!!!
By only ONE vote (see every vote counts) The Shadow of the Wind will be the second read for November.
Like i said it was VERY close. If a group of you want to get together and read this book as a group I really do encourage that and invite you to use the book club forums for your discussions. Somewhat like the groups who do the chunky reads like vanity fair do. That is TOTALLY okay with me and I love to see organic discussions and organized reads sprout up. Either that or someone can certainly nominate it again for another month. It was a very close poll so I hope the excitement about this book doesn't falter simply because of one vote.

Aw shucks! I was really hoping The Handmaid's Tale would win, and even tried promoting it on the what are you reading thread to get it one or two more votes (since a bunch of people were discussing it there). Oh well. If any of the others that voted for The Handmaid's Tale would still like to plan a discussion of it, I would love to participate. I know many have read this book already. I have not read it yet, but do have a copy sitting on my bookshelf here at home, waiting for me to pick it up. :o)

I'm def up for Tera's suggestion of a separate discussion as I'll be reading it in November anyway as I'd planned. Thats if there's interest from other too that is.
Ally

That would be fun, Ally! Count me in! :)
I am definately up for reading The Handmaid's Tale and discussing it in November! Especially since as Ally says, Margaret Atwood's 70th birthday is in November. Let's just plan on adding it as an additional discussion for that month! There were enough voting for it to get a good discussion going.

Fiona, the books for Novemeber are just books that will be discussed here in Novemeber. You do not have to read the books. If you want to read one you can, then participate in the discussion. You can read the book ahead of time, or read it during the discussion. If a book is being discussed that you have read already (recently or even a long time ago), you are more than welcome to still participate in the discussion.

I have had that book sitting on my shelves for ages, think I will join ya in readin it x

As you can see Julia's Chocolates is clearly going to lead off the month of November. However, after that we are going to have to have a run off. It came down to a tie between The Handmaid's Tale and The Shadow of the Wind. The Bell Jar was a close follow up with 11 votes.
I will post a run off poll now that will be up through Tuesday. The winner will be the second read for November.
I know these books are all popular and there was discussion about doing more than one or carrying them over until December but I really think with the holiday season what sounds good in September may not make for much reading/discussion time come mid Nov - December.
