I enjoyed reading this novel because it gave me insight on a lifestyle that I had no previous knowledge of. Lewis lives on an Indian reservation where his life is different than many of his classmates and he is well known for it. I was not aware of the poverty that took place on Indian reservations and how during this time people had a negative opinion of Native Americans. Lewis does not have any friends in his class that like him and he is known as the weird kid that lives on an Indian Reservation. That changes when he meets George who just moved to town with the Air Force due to his father. Lewis and George become very close friends and Georges family treated Lewis as one of their own. This was a great story that touches on several differences topics such as race, bullying, family, and friendship. I like the relationship between George and Lewis and the relationship between Lewis and George's dad because they make Lewis feel as if he is more than just the kid that lives on the Indian Reservation. Georges dad becomes a sort of father figure for Lewis and it made me feel happy for Lewis because that is what he has been needing. I loved the music aspect of the novel because it plays into a lot of situations and ends up making relationships stronger. I would love to use this novel in a classroom.
