Am I the only one not receiving notifications?

Goodreads staff seems to have intentionally removed the ability to get notifications on anything on the site and announced it on an obscure, tucked-away corner of Goodreads where nobody would see it and get mad at it. Between this and the bot going on a rampage that they've mostly ignored and destroying the database, it really seems like they've said "screw it" and made the worst possible decisions for the site. The notifications change is really a giant middle finger to anyone who communicates with other people on this site for any reason.Thread of me and some other folks complaining about it for more detail: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
Their announcement buried on the part of Goodreads nobody actually looks at: https://help.goodreads.com/s/announce...
I had no idea it was site wide. But that's weird. I'm not seeing any changes to the notifications page or the settings page. I'm on a desktop and I never got emails, so that's not the issue. My settings say that I should be receiving notifications from this group. I'm opted in for that.
Omg thank goodness you all are having the same issue. I wasn’t understand what was going on for days and today I finally decided to hunt the answers down. I found what Drace said.I’m so pissed that I lost all the threads I was following. I’m also having the issue with is if I re-check the notify me box on the bottom of the page. Then come back let’s say a day later it’s uncheck again.
It seems like I can get notifications if I physically check the box. It doesn't matter if I comment now or have previously commented. Unless I check the box, I'm not getting notified.I'm also annoyed all the previous threads I've been following were lost.
Based on the complaints in my thread over in the Librarians Group, it applies to review activity as well. If you converse with people in your book reviews, you're not going to be able to see anything they're saying unless you go back, check the box, and leave a new comment on every single review (and forum thread) you want to keep getting interaction on.Staff's new addiction to ruining Goodreads (see also: everyone's complaints about how the bot is completely destroying the database and has been doing so nonstop for at least two weeks) has me manually moving my entire to-read list over to a Google Sheets spreadsheet and I am not sure if I'm going to come back once it's complete.
That's unfortunate. I also converse with some of my friends on their Listopia votes, so this means I won't be able to see anything they say unless I go back and check the box,
I feel like everyone on the site should read the article "The 'Enshittification' of TikTok" by Cory Doctorow and remember that the boardroom suits who run a website are not your friends, not even on Goodreads. I'm sure someday we'll get a "The Rise and Fall of Goodreads" article where we learn who at Amazon had the bright idea to give the bot expanded powers and kicked off the site falling apart. (It's been nearly three weeks straight of the bot destroying the database with literal thousands of incorrect merges, by the way.)Here is how platforms die: First, they are good to their users; then they abuse their users to make things better for their business customers; finally, they abuse those business customers to claw back all the value for themselves. Then, they die.
The problem with the Amazon catalog bot is unfortunately not new.It started in June of 2023. I started a thread on it in this folder. Doesn't seem like GR has any intention of fixing the issue.
The biggest Amazon bot issue I was aware of before this was the bot importing tons of invalid non-book items and creating invalid editions based on secondhand sellers on Amazon, but I'd argue that this one is far worse than the invalid items. Those items can be invalidated with just a few clicks. For the invalid merges, staff would need to remove the incorrect ISBN/ASIN from every single edition and create a new edition for each one, and staff doesn't actively do that unless someone contacts them about doing so.
If some books are being incorrectly merged, Librarians can separate the editions. Of course if there are thousands of them, that makes it tough.

The bot is deleting ebooks and moving their ISBNs onto Kindle editions, and deleting Kindle editions and moving their ASINs onto ebook editions. Librarians don't have the ability to move ISBNs and ASINs from one edition to another, only staff.
Oh. I see. I haven't noticed that, so I'm not sure.I did notice that the problems with my notifications started on 9/29, which is well after GR made their announcement about changing the notification settings on 9/19. So I'm not sure what is going on. I don't see anything different in my settings at all.

April 2023 - at least, the earliest bad imports I've seen date to then.

What a time for notifications to go out! It appears to be the whole site. I'm getting a few stray notifications here and there, but for the most part they seem to be down.
Pretty much all of my notifications are out. I'm only getting them if people like my lists. I am not getting them for this group at all, or for comments on lists, even when I've opted in to receive them. It's been like this for 13 days. :(
No idea. It's been over a month now without group or comment notifications. Surely it's been reported?
So apparently some people are getting the notification bell alerts for this group. I'm definitely not getting any, even though I've opted in. Is anyone else still in the same boat, zero notifications?
It’s a legit it or miss. I just check in here and there and look via “unread” so if I mess anything I’ll see it via there.I’m running with it working right now but next month it’ll prob be my turn in the system to get skipped.
Lobstergirl wrote: "I'm not getting notifications for comments on reviews."I haven't received those for a very long time. I only get group comments.
Hey all,Are any of you having trouble with notifications lately? My Notification Bell has not been updated for 18 days now. I can access Group Discussions from the Community tab, but that's it. I've done all the log out/log in; clear data cache and cookies. Still no movement. I received 1 notification of someone who "liked" my review on a book...and that was 8 days ago.

There used to be a notice at the bottom of each thread that told me if I was already following a discussion. Now that's gone, and there's just a little box to check, "Notify me when people comment."
However, all the boxes are unchecked by default, even for threads that I've posted on extensively in the past. So I haven't been getting notifications at all for this group.
