She pulled away after a moment. "Can you help me put this on?"

He nodded. "Lift your hair." He undid the clasp.
She nodded and lifted her hair and rotated away from him.
He put it around her neck and clasped it back. "Good?"
She smiled and adjusted it by the hallow of her throat. "Yes, thank you."
He nodded. "You're welcome." He looked at his lap and fiddled with his fingers. "So when are you coming back to school?"
She pursed her lips, shrugging. " I don't know if I ever will."
"Why not?" He frowned and looked over at her.
She turned to face him again. "I just....I don't think I could face everyone looking at me."
"No one will bat an eye. They are all to busy doing whatever they're doing." He said.
"I was on the news. I saw it. Everyone knows." She sniffled.
"Not everyone saw the news. By next week it will all be forgotten." He said.
"But it also shouldn't be forgotten. Stuff that happened to me happens to girls all the time. It needs to be made aware of."
He nodded. "I agree. No one should go through it."
She nodded and sighed softly. "Thank you for coming by. You didn't have to."
"I wanted to. If you found a girl in your basement after a party with half her clothes off, wouldn't you be a little worried about what happened to her?" He asked.
She gasped. "That was your house?"
He nodded. "Why do you think I was there so early?"
She shrugged. "Clean up duty? I don't know..."
"Yeah I was cleaning up. I didn't expect half the school to show up. I on my invited like fifteen people." He looked at his lap.
"I'm sorry for showing up then. I heard about the party from a friend." She shrugged
"No it's fine. Who invited you?" He asked her.
"I did invite her. If I knew you then I would have invited you." He said.
"We didn't really have any classes together." She said

He nodded. "I've seen you in lunch a few times."
He nodded. "Yeah. You were laughing and smiling."
"Well I was happy then." She sighed
"I want you to be happy again." He said.
She shook her head. "I dont think I can ever be."
"You just need something to show you the joy in life." He said.
"I don't see joy anymore." She looked at him.
He looked over at her. "Can I take you out sometime?"
She bit her lip. "Like on a date?"
She suddenly looked angry. "I don't need your pity date."
"That's not what it is." He shook his head. "I want to go on a date with you because I like you."
"Like me?" She scoffed. "You don't even know me. You just know I was beaten in raped in your fucking basement."
"I've seen you around school and I've wanted to talk to you but I never got the chance. I just want to see you smile again." He said.
"and once I smile again you'll leave." She said.
"I also want you to be happy." He said.
"And once I'm happy you'll leave to find someone else who isn't broken or violated." She said
He shook his head. "I won't. I want to make you happy and make sure you stay happy."
"But why?" She looked at him with tears in her eyes.
"Because when I was a kid I watched my mother beaten to death. When I see someone in your position I think of her and how helpless I was to help her. So I try to make up for it by making people happy." He told her.
"So it's still out of pity then." She said.
"I like Alexis. I am doing it for that reason." He told her.
