Read a book that has more than one author. Many anthologies count, and you could even go with a single-author book that contains introductory material or commentary (more than just a blurb) by a different author.

C | 31 comments I just finished Aurora Rising, so I might use that. Or The Deep, if I get that one done in time.

This month's discussion will be strictly online. Because pandemic.

So, whatch'all readin'?

I plan to finish up Fishy Business: The Fifth Guppy Anthology since I read only a few of the stories for the short story theme.

I just got word that my pre-order of Our House Is on Fire: Scenes of a Family and a Planet in Crisis has dropped on Libro.fm. It has four authors, I think. And if you have any reading challenge prompts for climate change, this definitely works.

Dawn Lofink | 40 comments I finished one called Bite. I am now reading another anthology from the What Might Have Been series. This one is Volume I & II.

Leslie Means | 29 comments I have been reading The Black Book by James Patterson and David Ellis. A nice stand alone thriller. It's very hard to put down

Bite is a vampire book, I take it?

message 9: by Dawn (new)

Dawn Lofink | 40 comments Yes, Bite is predominantly a series of short vampire stories. Authors include Charlaine Harris & Laurel K. Hamilton.

Dawn Lofink | 40 comments Also, I finished the two volume anthology " What Might Have Been". after thorough thought... it's about a 2 stars out of five read. The genre is alternative historical fiction. Almost all of the authors listed are pretty big names in the genre or in sci-fi/ fantasy. (Poul Anderson, Harry Turtledove)
Many stories felt like they were ripped right out of a section of a longer novel almost at random. Many others I felt that I needed to have a greater knowledge of the authors other works. There were two stories that were decent stand-alones, and a good intro to the authors and the genre. Perhaps some better editing would have had a greater impact for the better.

Amy (amyml88) | 112 comments I read Belles on Their Toes, by Frank B. Gilbreth, Jr and his sister, Ernestine Gilbreth Carey. It's the sequel to Cheaper by the Dozen. Belles picks up right where Cheaper ends, just after the death of the father. The oldest child is 18, and the youngest is about 2. This book follows the lives of the kids and mom right up to the youngest's high school days and beyond.

This family has always fascinated me, ever since I read Cheaper in probably 5th or 6th grade.

How was The Black Book? I don't think I've ever read any Patterson or Ellis.

I have one story left to go in Rebels & Revenants: A Sirens Benefit Anthology. There are 11 stories, each by a different author who attended the Sirens Conference at some point. The 10 I've read were all great, so I don't expect any different from this last one. I've really enjoyed the variety in this collection.

C | 31 comments Since it was in March, I'm going to count Aurora Rising. I struggled a little to get into it, which I think was at least partly due to the audiobook. I appreciate that they had a different narrator for each character, but it took me longer than usual to adjust to all of them, and I straight up did not like Tyler's, which is unfortunate because he's the first chapter and very prominent in the beginning.
Once it got going, though, I really enjoyed it. Lots of tropes I love, aliens, space-magic, ragtag team of misfits/found family, etc. PLUS a *wildly* underutilized enemy concept that I'm always excited to see (but don't want to spoil).

It was a very intriguing mystery and kept me on the edge of my seat. I had never read any Patterson, so I thought I would give it a try.

I'll have to see if I already have some Patterson. I can't imagine I don't.
