The rockabilly werewolf from Mars wrote: "The carnival and 1950s setting made me think of Something Wicked This Way Comes. Another possibility (although it doesn't match up exactly), is Dead White, which I read ..."Thanks for your reply.
It's definitely not Dead White or The Black Carousel.
I thought at first it may have been Something Wicked This Way, but that isn't it either.
The book was so well written you could picture everything in detail as you were reading it. I remember thinking at the time "I can picture this so well, I'm sure I've seen it on TV" But I hadn't, it was just so well written.
I really hope I can find this book once again.
Land of Dreams by James P. Blaylock turned up while searching, but the dark carnival arrives every 12 years.
Steve, what type of characters and rides/games/entertainment appear in the ghost carnival?
Can you describe the main characters?

The Circus of Dr Lao?I don't remember it showing up every 100 years, but it might.

The Night Circus I can't remember how often the circus appears, but it may be what you're looking for...
Please note that you can bump your own threads, but we ask that you not bump others', because the group is so enormous.

This is a long shot, but before he wrote Something Wicked, Ray Bradbury wrote a similar carnival short story called Black Ferris that was in Dark Carnival.
@Kris, I’m not the one who bumped this thread but I’ve been following it because I’m looking for what I think is the same book. Since you said we can’t bump other people’s threads, in my situation should I make an entirely new thread with identical information (since I have no further info to add) so that I could bump it? If not what would you recommend people do in this situation? Would the older thread be deleted since it would be a duplicate?Thank you!

Irene, since you read a book and would like to find it again, even though you don't remember any more details than Steve, you should start your own thread. Steve hasn't posted in this thread since 2019 so likely it will become abandoned and wouldn't be solved.

No response, moving to Abandoned folder.

This is a story of a Ghost Carnival that reappears every 100 years.
I think the story is set in a small American town in the 1950's but I maybe wrong.
I read this book in the 1980's so it was rather published in the 1970's or early 1980's
I am not sure of the full title but I'm 90% certain it had "Carnival" within the title.
Does anyone remember this book and can anyone help me locate it please ?
