I enjoyed this, and might read the next book in the series when I have time. I wasn't hugely surprised at the solution to the mystery - I'd already suspected that Mme Anchou was a man - but Beattie's fate, which essentially came down to transportation, was a surprise. (Though it did make more sense than the impression that Simpson, Will and Sarah had actually killed him.)

(Though it did make more sense than the impression that Simpson, Will and Sarah had actually killed him.)I didn't mind the historical bits, and felt that the author did a nice job blending fact with character development. The mystery itself was both rather over-complicated and uncompelling, but there was a story worth reading, nonetheless.
