About 20 plays and 10 sonnets :)
Hmmmm....You started the year with 384 books, currently have 456 TBR books, and have read 121 books this year.
Does this mean your net gain is only 39 books so far this year?
(384-[456-121]=39)
I think you're supremely courageous!
And you even count free books, like ARCs, so you're also very honest about your challenge and quite demanding of yourself!
😊

That doesn't seem so bad when you put it like that. Some of the 456 books on my shelf are just anthologies split up. I had a few collections of full length novels which were all together in one Kindle book which I decided to separate into individual books on here. Plus, I have been trying to read books that have been on my shelves for a while.
I have actually read more than 121 books this year but I decided not to count some in my Goodreads challenges so my net gain could be even lower. Due to the pandemic, I have been able to read way more than I usually do and I didn't really want to include all of them because in more normal years, I would have probably pushed myself to beat that total and that would take the enjoyment out of reading for me.

I have several books on my shelves that have more than 1 novel in them. It's the only way I could find, as well as afford, some of the older books I want/wanted to read. For some reason, I sometimes end up with what turns out to be expensive tastes when it comes to books :D Glad I'm not alone in separating them into individual books on here. Not sure if managed to read more this year because of the pandemic or not. I'm only 54 over last year's total. I do know that I probably reached my goals sooner because of things being so different this year.

And yes I had to look up the numbers. I think the last time I would have known them was when I was in 9th grade, which was 40 some odd years ago. Our teacher had us write a term paper to prepare us for the papers we would have to write later on in our junior and senior years of high school. The title of mine was: The Works of Shakespeare and I think I managed to cover everything in one way or another in 25 (front and back) hand written pages ... with footnotes and everything. I made an A+ and my teacher wrote on it that it was one of the best papers she'd ever read. I think I might still have it somewhere -- goodness knows where, though!
I really like the format you use to keep track of your books. I'm inspired to try something similar for next year. Thanks so much. Keep enjoying your books.
