I enjoyed this one more than the prior two Discworld novels. But I'll save my comments for later when more people have started.

I've got the original U.S. paperback edition also. I am pretty sure that I have re-read this one at some point in the last 20 years.

This is so good! I love the opening sentence. Also the witty description of sex and the star wars reference all on the first page. Pratchett doesn't usually break the fourth wall to my knowledge like he does here, IIRC.

Haha - my comments will be based on my read of this book from earlier this year. I've read the first three Discworld books only. I'll read the fourth with the group next month.

I liked this book best so far. Pratchett seems to have more of an idea where he wants to go with the story instead of just throwing out some random jokes and hoping that will substitute for a coherent plot. Granny Weatherwax is a series favorite and we meet her in the very first pages.

Also, when I read this I got a strong YA vibe. Anyone else feel that way? Not to say adults can't enjoy and appreciate the book but I got the feeling it would appeal to high school and middle school readers as well. Many fantasy books seem that way to me.

Yeah, Pratchett would never have been one to be, like, "Im going to write SERIOUS fantasy". I think his whimsical, deceptively light-hearted approach simply makes the books appeal to any age. I would never get close to calling it YA, too loaded a term. I thought this even of his ostensibly younger reader Tiffany Aching series.

Half-way done. Agree with RJ re: a more directed plot. Some bits and pieces come back to me now and then from the last time I read this decades ago but I have no idea how it all turns out.

Finished it last night. Loved it! So many great moments with Granny Weatherwax, although I think she softened too much by the end. Looking forward to seeing her back in her home Ramtops in Wyrd Sisters. The Librarian had a nice featured scene also.

I got to finish the book! A bit late, but I did. I couldn't find to read last month =/

I know I had read this book years ago, but to me it was like the first time, I didn't remember anything and I got surprised about how much I have enjoyed now.

I hope I can finish the next book on time =) I have never read Mort, but I have high expectations for it too.
