Camilla | 2118 comments Question about 4: Art/Literature: Nay - The book is written from an animal's point of view. Does it have to be a "real" animal? I just started reading The House at Pooh Corner and I'm wondering whether a teddybear works for the task?

It hadn't occurred to me that there would be a book from an inanimate object's POV. Let's keep it to real animals.

LOL Janice, haven't you by now realized that we group members are masters of gophering and able to come up with a book for all situations, many of which you never were able to imagine?

I guess the bear on cover is too small as well?
The House at Pooh Corner by A.A. Milne

Ahh, I'll just head over to the correct task and ask the cover question there.

You mean Pooh isn't real? Wahhhhhhh

I've always considered him to be quite animate.

Yay Task - The book is set in Tibet or written by a Tibetan author.

Would Merlin's Keep by Madeleine Brent Merlin's Keep work for this task?
From the synopsis it seems the MC is brought up in Tibet and later on moves over to London.
Thanks.

This might be one of those books that you need to read to determine if it fits. It doesn't sound like she lives in Tibet for any length of time and you need to book set there for at least 50%.

Can i confirm if 'animal' is in the broad sense, so that I could listen to a book from a 'bees' (insect) point of view? (vs. narrow sense animal=mammal)

Katrisa | 4508 comments Janice, can I get approval for The Sandman Audiobook for Ent/Nay anime or manga task? It is a novelization of this series Preludes & Nocturnes and the audio is 10h 54m. But there is no print version.

Yes, you may use it. I'll be interested in how it translates to audiobook. Aside to that, the cover is amazing.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments I agree about the cover, Janice! I read the first four or five volumes of The Sandman, but I may need to check out the audiobook. It wasn’t before I had finished the third story that I finally understood the story line.

I am super excited to listen to it. I read the whole series last winter and thought it was amazing. At first I thought it was just like the dialog and so I thought it would not be a good representation of the original, but from looking into it, it's more of a novel, so that's awesome. I also got Locke & Key which is another graphic novel series I read and enjoyed that has been turned into a book - this time actually by Joe Hill the original writer. Neil Gaiman didn't write the Sandman novelization

I got Locke & Key on audiobook. It was free when it was first published. It was just dialogue and I had no idea what was going on so I abandoned it. I was concerned that Sandman might be the same.

I am stuck with the "Read a book with "Chrysalis" or "Cocoon" in the title." (Really wish I had missed that one...) Do you accept the french word Chrysalide?

I started Sandman (Audible) and it is A-MAZ-ING! I CANNOT imagine a more perfect adaptation from graphic novel to audio. It isn't just dialog. There is a narrator (Neil Gaiman himself - and I LOVE him as a narrator for his books) that describes scenes and new characters. There is a full cast so it is easy to tell who is talking. Some of it is surreal, but it is about the Lord of Dreams, so it is on point! I am only halfway through, but so far I give it as many thumbs up as I can give. I read the series too, and parts of it are even better in the audio than in the books. I highly recommend!

message 72: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 60162 comments That sounds encouraging, Katrisa. Neil Gaiman is such an amaszing narrator. :)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments My daughter and I were talking about the Sandman series the other day. She knew that I had read the first several volumes. She told me about the Audible narration. I did not know. I will check it out!
