Extended Prison Escape

The hero was South African who went undercover and put into prison. He stayed there for some time about a year I believe when a prison escape was staged and he escaped with a 'fellow criminal'.

He is somehow then teamed up with a female character and they chase a criminal mastermind of Albanian origin through Europe.

Spoiler alert: the book ends in a mini pirate attack where the hero attacks the yacht of the Albanian mastermind in a self-made ram boat and rescues the female co-lead character. Location of the attack is harbour of Valetta, Malta.
