Kirk Smith | 101 comments I recently read The Unvanquished and currently am enjoying Flags In the Dust. These two together make me feel like I have achieved a toehold needed to gain a passable understanding of Faulkner's world. I am elated to be following the good advice offered in this thread. I cut my teeth on Hemingway so it has taken me years to come around to Faulkner's roundabout style. Beautiful looping constructions I re-read two or three times just to savor. Now that I am on board I will never be stepping off.

The same thing happened to me a few years ago after joining this group. Faulkner can string words together like no one else, I just hate it took me so long to realize that and get on board too. Better late than never, for both of us.

Once you get into Faulkner, there's no going back! I will be reading my favorite, The Sound and the Fury, starting next week. And I own this book- I feel rich.

Kirk Smith | 101 comments Yes I like that, having a book in front of you that you know you love, that's as rich as I'll ever need to be.
