I recently read The Unvanquished and currently am enjoying Flags In the Dust. These two together make me feel like I have achieved a toehold needed to gain a passable understanding of Faulkner's world. I am elated to be following the good advice offered in this thread. I cut my teeth on Hemingway so it has taken me years to come around to Faulkner's roundabout style. Beautiful looping constructions I re-read two or three times just to savor. Now that I am on board I will never be stepping off.

The same thing happened to me a few years ago after joining this group. Faulkner can string words together like no one else, I just hate it took me so long to realize that and get on board too. Better late than never, for both of us.

I will be reading my favorite, The Sound and the Fury, starting next week. And I own this book- I feel rich.
