This is the fifth book in the Percy Jackson series. It takes place in a world where the Greek gods and myths are true. It’s about the Greek gods’ children (they are demigods, when the gods have children with mortals) trying to stop the titan Kronos from being resurrected. The main character is Perseus, who is mainly called Percy throughout the books though. He’s a son of Poseidon (meaning he basically has waterpower’s) and is in a prophecy about him and Kronos. For the past year they have been preparing for Kronos to attack them, knowing the chances of them beating him was slim. But Percy’s friend Nico has a plan that could increase the chances of victory.

This is a big chapter book with a bit of action, adventure, and some romance. It is a real page turner and is one of my favorite books. Sometimes the scenes do time skips though, and in my opinion, I don’t like some of them. I have one or two other problems with the book, but they are minor. Overall though, this book is incredible, and I really recommend the Percy Jackson series.

I enjoyed the Percy Jackson series, but I really loved the newer Heroes of Olympus series because readers get to hear a bunch of new voices. Have you read any of those? If not, do you plan to, and why or why not?

Mary Lippiatt | 13 comments In 10th grade you will be doing a Mythology unit. Are you interested in reading other books based on the Greek and Roman gods? I did like this series, but as I was reading, I kept thinking about the Harry Potter series and how similar the story lines were. What do you think of the Harry Potter books?

Yes, reading other books about the gods sounds kind of interesting. I think it would be cool to learn more about. And one of the reasons I love this series so much is partly because it's similar to Harry Potter books. The Harry Potter series is one of my favorites.

Yes, I've read the Heroes of Olympus books, I love them as well. I heard about it after I finished reading Percy Jackson. I started reading the Heroes of Olympus series before the fifth and final book came out.
