5. Pages: 344 pages (Kindle)
6. Summary: Read a book that deals with Historical Fiction: genocide of Eastern European Jews during WWII
7. How it fits: The book has Historical Fiction on the title page under genre. The story takes place in Auschwitz and describes the treatment of twins by Dr. Mengele. It also describes the treatment and attitude of Germans toward Eastern European Jews and their extermination.
8. Specifications
I almost abandoned it after reading about 25%, but relented and continued. The subject matter in itself is exceptionally disturbing dealing with the depravity of Josef Mengele in Auschwitz through the eyes of twins Stasha and Pearl. Difficult to read. But, honestly, I've read better books about this time period/subject. It ended up being predictable and boring.

The book chronicles the life of Mary Todd Lincoln as related through the her sisters Elizabeth, Francis, Ann and half-sister Emilie. Chapters flip among the sisters and years before her marriage to Abraham Lincoln and the years after.
Although I should feel sorry for Mary with her illness and losses, I didn’t like her at all. Her sisters were far kinder to her than I would have been.

When I was growing up, little girls wanted to be princesses - the pretty dresses, jewels, tiaras, being taken care of all the time. This book didn't just give a different view the servants life in the royal household, but also showed how restrictive and insular life was for the princesses. Give me an ordinary life.
