SOLVED. what is the title - romance/suspense. [s]

Several years ago I read a rom/susp book and cannot remember the name or author. It takes place in the western US in a small town that is entered only via a small river crossing. The story involves the crossing being blocked purposely. The town's people are then attacked by the invaders. The townspeople set up a barricade to be able to move around town and to thwart the invaders. Eventually the hero climbs his way out of the town and brings help. Great book but I cannot remember the name or author.
