Mostly this book is from Maria's perspective. Maria is a train-wreck. She makes choices and behaves as though she hates herself. She allows others to abuse her. Then, her true self is revealed to her brother. At that point, she begins to pull herself together. She begins to see her true worth. She redeems herself. However, I don't understand how she fell so low in the first place. In the end, I don't understand why she ran. Maybe you will figure it out and clue me in.
