I finished this one. There was so much there to absorb. I know we are just scratching the surface of all that was going on with Harry's parents, but I mean it is so much for one kid to bear, isn't it.

I really liked the thing with the Patronus and the connection to his parents.

And Snape is just not endearing himself to me at all. It just seems as though he's getting worse with each book!

Wow, Harry finally received birthday gifts. Hagrid's gift was interesting; I 'm sure that plays a part in the story later. The Dursley's are still no nicer to Harry which isn't a surprise.

Marge is no nicer than the Dursley's. Ha, I loved that Harry broke her glass. She had to know that he did it. I think she was so surprised and maybe scared that there was no way she was going to admit it was him. It sounded like Harry turned her into a balloon and she floated up to the ceiling. It wasn't very nice of him but I understand that he reached his limit and had to stick up for himself.

They've both suffered so much, and you just want them to get that little bit of happiness. Although, I do love Harry using Sirius against the Durselys!!! Wow, Shannon and Karen were right! ( Not that I didn't expect them to be... ) Thank you for persuading me to continue with the series. Book 1 and book 3 are quite different; there 's a darker and more mature tone to book 3.
I honestly wasn't sure that Harry wasn't going to kill Sirius. Harry has quite the temper. He has a bit of a dark side to him. ( I guess which is why the sorting hat could have placed him in House Slytherin. ) I 'm looking forward to seeing Harry and Sirius' relationship grow.

I like that I found out how Herimone was able to be in two places at once. Kinda cool!

I'm definitely in the minority but I need to say that Hagrid is not a favorite character. Any scene with Hagrid I just want to skip.

Snape- wow, his name suits. This guy definitely loses his cool. He has major anger mangement/bullying problems. I don't like his character but Rowlings has done a great job with his character. It will be interesting to see his future encounters with Harry.

Dumbledore---Teeehehe; even he breaks the rules once in a while.
Lepuis- I'm a little sad to see that he resigned.

Rowlings has really created an incredible world full of magic and supernatural creatures. Looking forward to continuing the series and seeing what the next adventure looks like. (hide spoiler)]

I enjoyed hearing the explanation of it. It makes sense but I too never understood why they did it until Dumbledore explained the whole thing.

Having read chapter 2, I agree with the comments a few pages back. As far as I remember the only characters that are described by their weight are the Dursleys. It's a bit of a lazy trope to use.

Chapter 5 - lots of thoughts on this one!

Professor Lupin's first moments are great. Love the comment that Madame Pomfrey makes about finally having a DADA teacher who knows their stuff.

Snape's reaction at the feast makes so much more sense on a reread.

First time reading this. I haven't seen anything after the 1st two movies so I am going into this completely blind.

Chapters 1-4

The Dursleys - After the first two books, I can't say that I am surprised about their behavior. If it's cruel, they seem to excel at it. Aunt Marge is a new characters. She is exactly like her brother. I noticed that she has the same last name as her brother so it appears that she has never married. I am not the least bit surprised given her attitude. I think what Harry did to her funny and well deserved. Maybe she will attempt to be a bit nicer in the future, although I doubt it.

The Knight Bus - This is an interesting touch. An emergency bus for wizards and purple to boot.

Sirius Black - Although, he doesn't actually make an appearance in these chapters, he is talked about a lot. Poor Harry has no lack of enemies for sure. I am interested how this all plays out.

The Weasleys - I love that the Weasley family is so protective of Harry. They have a ton of kids but treat him as if he is one of their own. I love this family and hope that they continue to be there for him.

Dementors - These are quite creepy. It is very odd that they can suck the happiness right out of a room just by being there. The chill the kids feel also add a creep factor to it. I am pretty sure I wouldn't want to face one of these.

Hagrid - It was nice to see Hagrid become a teacher. Especially after being punished for years over something he didn't do. Too bad Draco Malfoy insisted on ruining it for him. I hope Hagrid gets over it and gets back into teaching the lessons in his own unique way.

Professor Trelawney- She is just a bit creepy also. I think it would weird me out if a teacher told me that I was going to die. It is just odd.

Professor Snape - Really, what is the deal with this man? Why is he always so bitter? I understood that he didn't like Harry due to his past with Harry's father. However, what did Neville do to deserve all the bullying?

Professor Lupin - He seems to be an interesting teacher. I am curious about the potion he has Professor Snape mixing up for him and why.

Gryffindor Fat Lady portrait - How very odd that the Fat Lady has disappeared. It appears that Sirius Black has made his arrival known. I am curious what he will do.....

I always loved Professor Lupin. He always seemed so fatherly to me and I always hoped he would help Harry by being a father figure for him. Such a kind man! He has the opportunity to make another person feel awful (like Snape does often) when they do something wrong or imperfect but he never does. Insteas he teaches and helps people when they need it. I see him as a foil character to Snape.
