That too, and some need to learn their craft. However, even for published authors like myself, staying focused is still a constant battle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow. Seriously disturbed and amazing horror. January 25, 2013
By Kamilah S. Bryant
Format:Kindle Edition
This book was gifted to me by the author for an honest review. Thank You.

It has been awhile since I have read any Horror. My interest in books spans all genres. I used to read only Fantasy and Science Fiction, then I read only Stephen King, then I started reading Romance, but only Paranormal Romance, recently I started reading more Contemporary Romance. I also like reading YA, especially YA Dystopian. So now I feel like my reading interests have gone full circle back to Horror. I should pick up some Science Fiction/Fantasy while I am it. I used to be a fan of scary movies too, and I guess I still am though I haven't watched any in awhile. Slasher movies aren't something you can watch too many of with a small child in the house. I think a good horror tale should have just enough of the creepy and macabre to draw you in and keep you there quivering in terror until it's over. A good horror story makes you jump at strange noises in the night. A good horror story is something you remember long after you've finished reading it. Cindy Sprigg's book drew me in with the very first line and didn't let go.

The son of an incestuous relationship, Tommy lives in a shack surrounded by the bodies of his dead grandparents. Tommy was horribly abused by his grandmother and he grows up to be a crazed killer. A down on his luck writer, Jake, finds a body and thinks he may be on the verge of finding a really great, scary story. Jake is drawn into Tommy's madness. "The novel was now telling him he must supply victims to feed the boy, to feed it. The novel was everything; the story was his soul."

The writing in this book is amazing. It is descriptive and full of tension. The pacing is perfect. "A tale designed to make the reader both afraid to turn the page, but at the same time afraid not to." The story is twisted, messed up, bloody and scary. But it is also kind of sad. I feel sympathetic towards poor, crazy, killer Tommy. If you like Silence of the Lambs, Dexter, Psycho, or Saw than you will appreciate Composed in Blood. The dynamic between Jake and Tommy also reminded me of the 2006 movie Bug with Ashley Judd, based on a play, about the disorder where one person is drawn into another person's delusion.

The book is amazingly terrifying and after reading it you may need to sleep with a light on. Tommy and Max's story is one full of pain, blood and death. And Jake's descent into madness is seriously twisted. There is so much going on in this book. Sprigg seamlessly collects several fragments and weaves them into a whole. Thank you for this amazingly, disturbed, twisted tale, oh Mistress of the Macabre. After reading it all I could think was 'Wow'.

Mary Soderstrom | 2 comments For several decades I've been writing (12 published books), reading (the insurer says we have about 5,000, most of which have been read) and reviewing books for publications like Quill and Quire. So what do you get after all those years ? Material for a blog about books. Here's the link to my latest effort, which I hope will be an on-going conversation about books. My taste is eclectic so you'll probably find at least one book you hate/love discussed. I'm also going to include a regular feature of books written in French and other languages. Take a look.

Kathleen | 1 comments Greetings,

I am both a fan of Canadian literature and also a Canadian author. My first children's book, Blowing Bubbles, was published through Aaspirations Publishing, a small Canadian company.

I am also an elementary school counsellor and am very interested in bibliotheray!

The greatest challenge I am finding in my newlyb published status is learning about social media. I am on an incredibly steep learning curve and keep starting profiles and not maintaining them!!!

I am happy to join this group and hope to learn lots!!

Tricia McCallum | 4 comments Hi fellow Canadians!

I cannot believe I only just now found this site for us! I'm happy to be among you.

I am a Canadian poet and writer, a goodreads author and proud two-time winner of the goodreads Poetry Contest.

On Goodreads, my link is https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...

I have a second book of poetry called "The Music of Leaving" coming from Toronto's Demeter Press in October and I am over the moon as I am so proud of the work.

You can read lots of my writing and poetry on my website/blog at www.triciamccallum.com and sign up for my newsletter. It's where I write about what catches my attention, what delights me, scares me, puzzles me, and what annoys the hell out of me.

And, of course I publish poetry, both my own AND pieces by other poets I come across that grab my heart and won't let go. The ones that offer up those "magical moment of understanding," so often undefinable, that all good poems can.

I'm happy to have found you and look forward to hearing from my fellow Canadian writers and readers.

Warmly, Tricia McCallum

Stephen Coghlan | 4 comments Well, I guess its my turn.

I have a small blog on my website http://scoghlan.com where I try to keep up to date with both how my books are growing, and the thoughts of an ever expanding author. I've also started using facebook under @wordsbysc, but I've only put it up since my third short was picked up.
