30.5 - Sandy's Task: As Easy as 1 and 2 (not even 3!)

Choose 2 of the following 3 options and read one book for each of your choices. Your total pages must equal at least 600. No books with the main page genres children or kids may be used for this task.

The months in the winter season are numbers 12, 1, and 2 of the year, so those are the numbers we'll use for our options.

Option 1. Read a book that contains both a 1 and a 2 in the total number of pages.

Option 2. Read a book that has a series number consisting only of 1 and/or 2 - i.e. 1, 2, 11, 12, and so on. If a book belongs to more than one series, you may use any series that is noted in the book's main page metadata. To qualify, a series must have at least 3 already published books.
REQUIRED: Specify in your post the series name and number.

Option 3. Go to the individual page for the last book you gave a 5 star rating to (i.e. if the last book you rated 5 stars was Oryx and Crake you would go to the book's main page. Scroll down to the section for community reviews and click on "filter" for 5 stars...then click on "sort" to organize the list by most recent first. Once you do that you will need to click on page 1 or 2 of the list and select a person. Visit that person's profile and select another book (one that you haven't read before) that they gave 5 stars to and that will be the book you need to read for this option.
REQUIRED: State in your post your 5 star book, the person's name you selected and that this book is new to you.

Bea I am constantly amazed at all the ways the GR can be used to find books (this task's option 3). Thanks for introducing me to one I did not know and had never tried.

Julia (julia103) | 2719 comments Clarifying for Option 3:
I rated a book 5 stars in 2014, re-read it in November 2019 and kept the 5 star rating on the re-read.
I read a book for the first time in October 2019 and rated it 5 stars.

Which would I use: the one that I rated most recently or the one that I read most recently?
(I'm thinking it would be the one from October, but wanted to make sure.)

I think the one you read most recently would be the most appropriate.

Julia (julia103) | 2719 comments OK, I'll go with the re-read then (unless I rate something 5 stars in the next week). Thanks for clarifying.

well, it also doesn't have to be read before the challenge started, as long as you don't feel the need to have everything laid out ahead of time. You might read some awesome 5 star book in December or January and want to use that.

Stephanie | 400 comments I am worried more people will rate the book I picked originally five stars and bump my community member to page 3+, will that be ok, or do they have to be found on the first two pages when I post?

Make a note of where the person is when you select the book and state that and the date you selected the person/book in your post.

Cat (cat_uk) | 3382 comments for option 2, the series number, I read Theft of Swords, which is a bind-up of books 1 & 2: they were originally self-published, and when they were traditionally published, the publisher put them together.

so, the metadata describes it as #1-2 (original publication numbers).
Can I use it for this option? it gets me over the 600page count so I don't have to worry about the other book length!

since it's 1/2, both numbers work!

Cat (cat_uk) | 3382 comments yay! Thanks!

I'd hoped it'd work, but thought it was worth double-checking the non-standard metadata :)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Can I read Claws Books 1 & 2 for option 2?

Claws 1 and 2 doesn't have any series designation - the task requires 1 and/or 2 as a series designation. The task also requires that there be at least 3 published books in the series. And, since there's a page requirement, a book that only exists as an ebook cannot be used. So, seems that there are a few problems with this one.

You could read the Night Huntress book, since there are more than 3 published books in the series.

Peg | 518 comments I had chosen my 5 star review book when planning out my spreadsheet for the challenge. I realize that since then, I have given another book 5 stars, but I have already read the book I had chosen when planning. Do I need to change or just make a note of this when I post?
