I don't know how I am gonna squeeze this in, but I really have wanted to read it for a long while now.
I'd like to join this as well. This keeps getting moved down on my TBR and would be a great BR since it's so long!

I'm planning to read this in chunks with other books mixed in. I'm hoping that I don't love it too much to put it aside and read my other buddy reads! I expect it will take me the whole month (at least) to finish.

I have this one on my TBR list thanks to a recommendation in another thread. I promised to read it in the next three months so January should work well.
I might re-read it with you all. I'll just have to see what my schedule is like. I own the 2nd book and have for quite some time but I'm reluctant to read it because then if will be over...I hardly ever re-read books - but this is one worthy of an exception.
(if we want, we can reuse the old BOMs from back in the day found in this old thread:https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
)
I love the idea of using the old BOM questions. We had talked about the 5th or 8th as a start date. Does that work for everyone?
Yup. Works for me. I think we decided the 5th, but it'll take a while to read. I'm sure some people will start a little sooner / later.
As Steven noted above, there are questions available in the old discussion thread, which can be found here. I would avoid the thread for a while though, because you'll probably find a lot of spoilers too. Maybe after we get going, some brave soul can copy and paste some of the questions in this thread. :)
I had already copied them ready so I didn't have to keep searching for them. Do you want me to post them here (under spoilers)?
We should see if the mod can post them in that reserved spot at the top, under spoilers for each section. :)

I might join in on this as I've been meaning to re-read it before reading the next in series. It's quite chunky though so we'll see.
I'll join in as I'm on vacation so hopefully can start early January. I like the idea of using the old BOM questions, great idea, Steve.
I have this on audio (27+ hours) but probably won't get to it until February. Will join in the discussion then :0)
Man, this book is amazing. I'm tempted to read it again, but I will at least follow your discussion. Have fun!
Started with hubby a few months ago, and he stalled as my buddy, so glad I can join this read instead!
This is a reread for me...I've read the first two chapters. I just love the characters and especially the banter between Bast and Kote. I read it on my own the first time so this will be great to discuss with everyone!
I started it on audio (Somewhere along the line I heard the audio is excellent.) and I'm only about 4% in, but I'm a bit confused by the characters already. I think I have most of them, but not all. I'm trying to decide if I should go back & listen again or continue on to see if it clears up. Maybe I'll try looking up the character list first.
I'm a few chapters in so far. Not a quick read for me. Something about the writing style doesn't flow in my mind. (view spoiler)
Might be a bit ambition for my first buddy read but I'm looking forward to giving it a go! Can't' wait to get the start date!
I love it so far. I am only 10% in. I am intrigued by Kote as well. I can't wait to find out more about him.
9% - I like Kote's character too. I'm interested in hearing his story. I'm also very curious as to (view spoiler)
*waves* hi Snowtulip : )I'm finishing up two other book and then I'm going to start this one along with another buddy read I was supposed to start at the end of Dec but couldn't fit in.

Book synopsis
Told in Kvothe's own voice, this is the tale of the magically gifted young man who grows to be the most notorious wizard his world has ever seen. The intimate narrative of his childhood in a troupe of traveling players, his years spent as a near-feral orphan in a crime-ridden city, his daringly brazen yet successful bid to enter a legendary school of magic, and his life as a fugitive after the murder of a king form a gripping coming-of-age story unrivaled in recent literature. A high-action story written with a poet's hand, The Name of the Wind is a masterpiece that will transport readers into the body and mind of a wizard.
