Nevada (vadatastic) | 53 comments I'm looking for examples of 1st person POV for multiple characters that is done well, preferably in an Urban Fantasy book. I'm familiar with the Song of Fire and Ice, but that is definitely high-fantasy and a bit more epic than I'm looking for.

As a reader, how many POVs are too many for you? What are the defining factors in your reasoning?

If you are someone who has used this technique, what were the pitfalls you encountered and what would you have done differently?

G.G. (ggatcheson) | 66 comments The Savannah Vampire series by Raven Hart (first book in the series: The Vampire's Seduction)

is a good example of multiple first person with William's and Jack's POV. I've only read book two so far: The Vampire's Secret. (Yes, my mistake. I bought it second hand and didn't realize it was a series and not the first book and there are quite a few more in the series.)

However, I loved the book I've read and the way the author goes from one to the other. She writes the name of the one who will be featured beforehand so there can be no mistakes. From time to time the story interlaces and part of it will be repeated but from the pov of the other, and instead of feeling of deja vu, it adds to it: things one didn't know or didn't see caught by the other.

I have to confess that I am a fan of first person POVs. Sure the books could have been written in third person POV but I don't think it would have add the same result.

How many is too many? I honestly don't know and it's something that won't bother me as long as it's well done. Two is definitely ok for me. Three probably would be too. More than that might be pushing it, then yet again, if well done, I might not even notice...
