George P. | 116 comments I'm disappointed to see no posts on this book as yet. I would really like to read it, or her Through a Window: My Thirty Years with the Chimpanzees of Gombe but I just can't fit it in this month. I do have it scheduled for mid or late 2020 though. I really enjoyed the documentary film I saw about Ms Goodall.

K (billielitetiger) George, Diane (& all) I'd like read either or both of these next year., just say when.

Woman Reading (is away exploring) | 148 comments I'd also be interested in doing a buddy read of this next year, maybe around Feb/March.

OK, George P, you shamed me into posting. I did read the book in the intended month, but didn't know what to say. I enjoyed the personalities of the chimps and the social interactions. Jane was criticized for naming them, but that seems kindlier than numbers. I had known something of Jane Goodall for years and probably even watched a TV special, but had never read one or her many books. Now it seems like I see references to her everywhere, in my local newspaper, in the books I am pulling at the library for hold requests, etc.

I also ready the book, and it was a lot better, less technical than I thought it would be. I wouldn't have picked this book in the past but am glad it was our book for this month. I'd recommend reading it. It has a lot of interesting details on Jane's first years in the jungle with the chimpanzees and all the things she learned.

Missy J (missyj333) | 218 comments What I enjoyed the most in this book were the interesting facts about chimpanzees. For instance, smiling doesn't always come from a positive place in the chimpanzee world. A smile originates from a nervous and social discomfort, trying to win the favor of the other. A chimpanzee grins as a sign of submission to superiors.
