Ed Lehman | 2651 comments Elizabeth (Alaska) wrote: "Ed wrote: "Is the finalized list?”

Not sure what you mean here, Ed."

The list of Oktoberfest countries that Kate supplied in Post 6. In Post 5 you indicated that you would be posting the list.

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14225 comments The list of countries Kate posted is the full list of countries for that option. I think the lists she was referring to in her answer are those other lists links in posts 2 and 3, and which include authors for the Oktoberfest countries.

Yep, he's on the list from when we did this before.

Ed Lehman | 2651 comments I remember there was some issues with The Mueller Report by Robert S. Mueller III. Will this work for A4?

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14225 comments Ed wrote: "I remember there was some issues with The Mueller Report by Robert S. Mueller III. Will this work for A4?"

Yes. The only discussion relating to it that I found was about format and page count.

Juniper (jooniperd) | 102 comments does an author with a hyphenated or double first name count as an author using three names? i.e., Ann-Marie MacDonald, or Mary Beth Keane?

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14225 comments Jennifer wrote: "does an author with a hyphenated or double first name count as an author using three names? i.e., Ann-Marie MacDonald, or Mary Beth Keane?"

Yes. I looked at the original task and a hyphenated name counts as 2 of the 3 names.

Rebekah (bekalynn) ”CYOA can be completed three times, but each criteria can only be used twice in the season.”

Does this mean we can use a criteria twice in one round? Or do we have to use 10 separate criteria per round?
For example, if I plan to complete the sub-challenge only once, could I still read two books that fit A1?

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14225 comments "Each author must fill a different criterion"

10 different authors, 10 different criteria, each round. As there are only 15 criteria, if you repeat, naturally some will have to be repeated. And with 15 criteria, you can do it 3 times using any single criteria only two times.

Rebekah (bekalynn) I thought that was what it meant, after I slept on it. (Smile) I stay up to late to ask questions,

Deedee | 2279 comments I'm looking to use The Blue-Eyed Aborigine by Rosemary Hayes for
2 Author born 1914-18 OR 1939-45

wikipedia shows Rosemary Hayes' birthday as
Rosemary Hayes (born December 10, 1942)

One of the main page genres is "Young Adult'; however, there is no Lexile score for this novel.

BPL is
Location: Dekalb YA Fic
Call #: FIC HAYES
Here's the link: BPL The Blue Eyed Aborigine

I'm a couple of chapters into the novel right now, and there is some rather graphic violent content -- I wouldn't put it as YA, but then, I'm not a librarian.

My question: can I use this book for CYOA B2?

Thanks

BPL shelves it as YA fiction, and without a Lexile it will not qualify for CYOA.

Valerie Brown | 3263 comments I really would like Under the Volcano by Malcolm Lowry to work here. However, I've already used C1.

Does any of this info allow him to qualify for C4 or C5?

Wikipedia says he wrote several articles for the Vancouver Province (newspaper)......
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malcolm...

Wiki also says he wrote short stories (which were published posthumously, so I don't know if it counts)

The New Yorker says he wrote a screen play for "Tender is the Night" (wikipedia also says he screen wrote in the 1930s when living in LA).
https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/20...

This book: https://books.google.ca/books?id=lKXi...
also refers to his screen play

He fits C4. Fiction, short stories, essays/nonfiction.

Tien (tiensblurb) | 3097 comments Does Marianne de Pierres count as 3 names?

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14225 comments Tien wrote: "Does Marianne de Pierres count as 3 names?"

Unfortunately, no. The original task said, in part, Initials, name suffixes (Jr, Sr) and name prefixes (la, de, l' etc.) will not be counted as separate names

Valerie Brown | 3263 comments Me again! I am interested in reading The Cockroach for this challenge. However, when I searched it the kindle version shows up. I can attest the book has 100 actual story pages (the one noted as 112 pages probably is counting the title pages et al). Can I use this book?

You're in luck! This edition: The Cockroach is the one that is the MPE at exactly 100 pages. But hurry to read and post, because that could change to a lower number and you'll want to lock it in.

Tien (tiensblurb) | 3097 comments I am currently listening to Amaryllis which my library has shown as being by M.C. Beaton as per cover, Amaryllis by Marion Chesney . However, I note MPE actually has different title, The Poor Relation by different author's name, Marion Chesney.

Based on above, I won't be able to claim this for the initials + surname task, is that right?

And... could we claim the 2 names being of 'different' author or not?

10 days to the end of the Season and I'm still asking questions, sorry :)

And thanks!

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14225 comments Tien wrote: "I am currently listening to Amaryllis which my library has shown as being by M.C. Beaton as per cover, Amaryllis by Marion Chesney. However, I note MPE actually ..."

Unfortunately, she wrote this as Marion Chesney, so, no, it won't work for the initials option of CYOA. Did you know she died last year? I don't know if you have used the born in one century died the next or the No L. She also would work for veteran author and, surprising to me, as a journalist.

She wrote under several pseudonyms, so if you were asking if you could stop listening and put her off to Blackjack and the Diamond Two, she works there also.
