Isabela | 13 comments I need a good read! Haven’t had one in a while. Those books with a plot twist and an ending that no one saw coming. A reading that takes your breath away and keeps you wandering for days. Something a bite recente, like 2014 until now. A mystery that captivates you, can’t put it down kind of book. Any suggestions? Please! Yours sincerely very desperate reader.

Eva Oh, I know something with the most amazing plot twists and reveals and deceptive reveals and then another twist and reveal! Anything written by Brent Weeks (if you like fantasy novels).

If you prefer more of a (male) Young Adult style, try his debut The Way of Shadows.

If you'd rather read a complex fantasy series for adults, try The Black Prism.

I kept gasping and mouthing inane things like "oh my god!" with the reveals when reading these. Another big plus is that both series are finished and you won't have to sit around waiting for the next book to come out.

Isabela | 13 comments Thank you! I’ll keep these in mind, but right now I’m kind of running from book series. My time is short, I’m in college, I want individual books if possible.

Pax | 63 comments One Of Us is lying is a pretty good mystery, but I remember some plot twists in it when I read it. I enjoyed it, too!

Emily | 295 comments For most popular/major authors' adult series, there is not a real need to read them in order as they just feature the same character or detective. There are a few lists here on Goodreads that might be helpful. Here's one:

Carson (explodingtardis10) | 28 comments This isn't recent but Summer of Fear by Lois Duncan was pretty amazing. Anything by E Lockhart after The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau Banks is very suspenseful. The Women of the Otherworld series has duologies within the series every two books that focus on one character and I'd recommend Dime Store Magic/Industrial Magic. Laura Lippman's standalones are incredible.

Trunk Music is a thriller/police procedural with plot twists. Very good. Although it's 5th in a series and you really should start at the beginning.

Sycorax | 88 comments Fingersmith by Sarah Waters has amazing twists and turns - the kind of book that keeps you up at night. Iluminae by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman does have sequels but can be read on its own and is pretty riveting .

Are you still looking? I highly recommend D.D. Warren books by Lisa Gardner, books by Chevy Stevens or Karin Slaughter, too. They don't all have twists or anything. But they're intense mysteries/thrillers. Beware of "The Good Daughter" though. It's a wonderful book, but it has graphic descriptions of sexual assault on a minor.

I've read the book! Thanks for the suggestion. Really enjoyed it. Didn't quite expect that ending!
