Morton, Kate ; The Secret Keeper ; Informal Buddy Read ; Start Date 20 Feb 2015
I'm in for this one! Loved the one Kate Morton I've read so far and this has been sat on my kindle for too long.
@Rebecca...which of her books have you read? I have never read her, so I am looking forward to this one.

I am listening to the audio, so I was planning to just go with the first page number that pops up in a search, which is 497 pages. Now that I'm looking at it though, the Audible edition is longer than the CD audio (20 versus 17 "pages"). I wonder why there is such a discrepancy?
Sorry I lost this thread!I read The House at Riverton and The Forgotten Garden (which I LOVED).
I really love her story telling.
Jackie wrote: "I'm in for this one. I've only read The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton and loved it."I have also only read The Forgotten Garden but really liked it. Looking forward to this one.
I have this book. I may join in on this since I have lots of time before it starts, to clear out all the current BR I'm in.I'm going to do a BR for The Forgotten Garden this month/December. Just about to ask for a thread.
I really liked The Forgotten Garden and have started The House at Riverton. I asked if anyone wanted to read Riverton in the buddy threads early in the game and there were no takers.

I'd love to read The House at Riverton but I can't work it in right now.
Mary: Harry Dresden's Love Slave wrote: "I put it aside for other buddy reads. So we can always do it in a couple of months."That would work for me. I could read it late December or early January.
Jackie wrote: "Is anyone still interested in reading The House at Riverton?"Yes! Early January is rammed for me but mid-Jan onwards works.
The mods have set up a thread for The House at Riverton to start on January 20. If anyone else is interested please join Zee and me.
Just tagging the thread so I can find it again. Anyone else still planning to read this in a week or so?
I'm going to get it from the library tomorrow, but probably won't start until sometime next week. My sister has been after me to try this author for a while.
I've only read the first six chapters so far (about 15%) but there's already so many thoughts buzzing around my mind.(view spoiler)
Coming to this one a bit late and hopefully grabbing it from the library on Monday. Hopefully, I'm not too late in starting it with everyone else :)
It looks like a few of us are starting late. I'm planning to start today, but won't get very far, as I expect a pretty busy day.

I was hoping I wouldn't be so late that it meant I couldn't really participate. I'm sure hoping I get it in the mails on Monday.
No worries, Sara. We'll be around. I read the first 3 chapters today and was a bit bored. I'm hoping it picks up a bit, as many of my GR friends really liked this one. I think the problem is that I've read so many books with a lot happening (lots of action) recently, so I'm not in tune with the slower pace of the story telling. Plus, I put a couple series on hold, so I'm probably biased wanting to get back to those too. Basically, I think the problem is me. Can't wait to see what others think.
I'm excited for when you guys get going so I can hear your thoughts. Lots of speculating to be done with this one.I'm done through part 2.

Book synopsis
During a summer party at the family farm in the English countryside, sixteen-year-old Laurel Nicolson has escaped to her childhood tree house and is happily dreaming of the future. She spies a stranger coming up the long road to the farm and watches as her mother speaks to him. Before the afternoon is over, Laurel will witness a shocking crime. A crime that challenges everything she knows about her family and especially her mother, Dorothy—her vivacious, loving, nearly perfect mother.
Now, fifty years later, Laurel is a successful and well-regarded actress living in London. The family is gathering at Greenacres farm for Dorothy’s ninetieth birthday. Realizing that this may be her last chance, Laurel searches for answers to the questions that still haunt her from that long-ago day, answers that can only be found in Dorothy’s past.
Dorothy’s story takes the reader from pre–WWII England through the blitz, to the ’60s and beyond. It is the secret history of three strangers from vastly different worlds—Dorothy, Vivien, and Jimmy—who meet by chance in wartime London and whose lives are forever entwined. The Secret Keeper explores longings and dreams and the unexpected consequences they sometimes bring. It is an unforgettable story of lovers and friends, deception and passion that is told—in Morton’s signature style—against a backdrop of events that changed the world
