If I Stay (If I Stay, #1) If I Stay question

Could it have been called "if i leave"? Why or why not?

If I Stay would still be the better and more appropriate title. In the story, the more convenient choice for Mia is to leave. It doesn't even require thinking anymore because of course, why would she want to stay without her family? Staying is a very difficult course to take which needs to be intensely pondered upon and that's exactly what Mia did in the story- to consider the consequences of this rather difficult option of staying and yeah, there's Adam ;)

Yes it could have, but If I Stay or If I Leave both work.

I think either works. Maybe if she had left, If I Leave would have been more fitting.

I don't see why not. However if I had to guess I would suppose that the title was chosen SPOILER! because of the end of the book. Either way both sound cool

it was like a sneak peak to the ending i think, because SPOILER she stays

I think it was called 'If I Stay' because she was deciding whether or not to stay. Her thoughts leaned more towards "What will I have to live with if I stay?" Not "What will the other side be like if I leave?" So because she was wrapped up in the living world, debating whether or not to go on living with her remaining friends and family the title was as we get it.

"If I Leave" also kind of gets you thinking about what will happen to the OTHERS if she were to cross over and not on HER, which is another thing the title helps with. By calling if 'If I Stay' you know that it is focusing on Her and how She will be affected by her decision, not how others will be affected, because at the end of the day, the others really aren't important.

My book club actually discussed this. It could NOT be called If I Leave.

The book focuses on the positive things in her LIFE. It literally talks about what would happen if she stayed. It doesn't really mention what would happen if she left.

if i stay just sounds a lot better than if i leave i think

I'd rather not have it "If I leave"...:/ If I stay is short and sweet and the book isnt asking should she leave...its asking should she stay....

yea, its confusign adn might seem like the same thing, but its totally not...only a few ppl might get this

Megan Sharp I definitely agree. I was never about if she would leave, it was about if she could bare to stay, and the positives and negatives to staying. She neve ...more

No because the whole book is about what happens if she stays. It's the decision she's trying to make and the harder choice is to stay.

i think it should be if i stay because it's about what to look forward to in life. like leaving seems like the easier decision because her family is all gone, and mia doesn't know what her world will be when she wakes up. but the story questions that by showing flashbacks and how much the living people care etc., and in the end she finds the reason to stay
