I am noticing that my bookopoly reading has slowed. My current and last two books have been completed late. I wonder if reading my own books and library closures have impacted my reading or if it is just a matter of not being able to concentrate on my reading as I once did.

Anyway, I will keep going. However, it is only one roll at a time for me. Don't think I could handle more than one book for this game.

I'm doing Bookopoly very slowly these days too, Bea. I'm amazed at the people who keep tearing around the board.

I am working on a jail book and one other about half that size. I read a lot during the lockdown, but now that I'm back to work it's going a little slower.

I'm up & down with speed. Am currently reading all 3 of my bookopoly books and going slowly about it - and there were times that they just sit there and wait wait wait lol

Bookopoly is to play at own speed anyway so it's really up to individual :)

While I'm here... Please let me know if you'd still like to play bookopoly next year & your thoughts on current form of bookopoly :)

Tien, first ... Thank You! for putting all the time and effort into planning these games.
I am enjoying Bookopoly, but I just am having a problem with being excited about anything this year. I guess it's Covid boredom. I think I'd like to see a bit different version or a few differences in it for next year. A new game would be okay, too. I don't know what those changes would be, but I just find a need for variety getting back in my life.

Tien (tiensblurb) | 9032 comments Mod
@LynnB, I'm the same (Covid boredom or whatever it is called). It's why I'm asking if players are still keen to play next year or if we are kinda over it. If enough people put their hands up though, I don't mind putting together a new edition :)

message 109: by Tawallah (new)

Tawallah | 155 comments Tien, I really enjoyed Bookopoly. Honestly, I am all over the place with my challenges. I still have my books I’m interested in reading.

In terms of next year, I’m wondering if maybe doing prompts rather than choosing books would be more interesting. And I really like the travel edition. So prompts related to setting so that you read more about the country you are visiting.

So short story- I would be interested in trying it again next year.

message 110: by Joanna (new)

Joanna (walker) | 620 comments I'm really enjoying bookopoly--this is my first year playing it. I like having a pre-selected list of books I already want to read, but being prompted to read specific things from the list helps me keep those books moving along.

Beth | 581 comments Tien wrote: "While I'm here... Please let me know if you'd still like to play bookopoly next year & your thoughts on current form of bookopoly :)"
I enjoy Bookopoly....I like getting books to choose from that are maybe out of my comfort zone a little. So if we have it again I am in, but am good either way.

message 112: by Elvenn (new)

Elvenn | 746 comments I enjoy Bookopoly too, and really appreciate all the work you've put into its design every year. I like it lets us set the reading pace, how different the picks can be for one same shelf and that it helps tackle postponed books.

message 113: by Lisette (new)

Lisette (illusie) | 3233 comments I like bookopoly and still enjoy it, but wouldn't mind if you'd skip a year.

My suggestion is when you go to jail you could choose from the 3 biggest books instead of having to read the biggest one. I like choices ;)

I like June's idea, but think it would be harder if all books have to fit prompts. I like how you did it in this bookpoly version. There are a few prompts for the Shelves. The thing I enjoy about bookopoly is that you can use books to fit other challenges.

message 114: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 185 comments I also really appreciate all the hard work that goes into setting this game up. I can't even begin to imagine it! I have played Bookopoly for the past 3 years now and I really enjoy the game. I've had a hard time busting through it, mostly because I over-extend myself with challenges and end up prioritizing those. I also find that I optimistically put a lot of my owned TBR on my Bookopoly shelf to help propel me through it, but most of my reading this year has been audio so I'm really struggling to move along the board. I, like many, have not been reading as much as I normally do.
Regarding the game itself, I love it. I really appreciate this year's travel theme; however, as I'm playing it I don't love it quite as much as I have the previous years. I can't recall offhand what the differences are, or maybe it's just because I'm not moving through it as fast so I'm not as engaged. I do like the mix of prompts and picks. If you do the game next year, I think I will do a better job of setting up my shelf to include more types of reading options for myself (ie more audio selections) so that I can move more freely throughout the board. Especially since every year my goal is to reduce my physical TBR and those challenges are always the ones I do worst with! I clearly have some type of problem with buying books.....

Thanks for the feedback, Michelle, we are all struggling with reading this year, I think.

And you are NOT alone!! We all have this problem ;p

message 116: by Jammin Jenny (new)

Jammin Jenny (jamminjenny) | 4 comments I love the Bookopoly game but understand if you need to skip a year. I really enjoy the different versions you've had. I've only played two years and enjoyed both of them. Sometimes it's hard for me to finish the Bookopoly book because other team challenges take precedent.

message 117: by Meg (new)

Meg (megscl) | 1073 comments This is my first year playing Bookopoly, I have really enjoyed it. I like the interactive choosing aspect, because it feels like you are working together on an individual challenge and checking in with your team.
I would play again next year if you did it. But I also love new challenges!

message 118: by Marina (new)

Marina (sonnenbarke) | 1513 comments I somehow didn't get notifications for new posts in this discussion, so I missed your question, Tien.

Like everybody else, I want to thank you for the effort you put into thinking up these games - they are always exceedingly fun to play, and despite having reduced the number of challenges I've taken part in this year, PAS is still my go-to group as far as challenges are concerned. I seem utterly unable to stop myself from joining your challenges, lol!

I've always loved Bookopoly and this year's edition is my favorite so far. I love the travel theme. Also, this time I've only added books I really want to read to my Bookopoly shelf, all of them falling into my comfort zone, so it's been much easier to keep going around the board - actually, it's been the first year I've been able to stick to the game even after some months.

However, I totally understand if you decide to skip next year, whether you decide to replace Bookopoly with a different game or just skip it altogether and concentrate on the other games. It's up to you!

Thank you everyone for your kind comments :)

I wasn't sure if we'd do another Bookopoly because I just haven't had any idea of what spin we'd want to put on it however your feedback have definitely got my brain churning so look out for a new ed ;)

@Marina, I definitely think it helps if you only put books on your bookopoly shelf those you really want to read especially in this deuced climate!

message 120: by Paola (new)

Paola (yliharma) | 470 comments Thanks for all the effort and creativity you put on Bookopoly Tien!

This is my 5th Bookopoly edition and every year has been better than the previous, I really enjoy it and like very much the possibility to use books for other challenges.

It's also thanks to this game (the JAIL :D) if I've read two big books from China Miéville which I've loved.

That being said I'm happy if you do another edition next year but I'll understand if you take a pause.

During the covid lockdown I've read few pages and everything seemed boring, I didn't watch tv either. Only yoga, dancing and meditation helped me.
For all of you still in lockdown: stay safe, don't force yourself into doing things you're not excited about, keep in touch with your loved ones and walk in nature if you can. I'm sending you lots of hugs and love.

message 121: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 1385 comments HI Tien - again, thanks for your wonderful creativity! I always enjoy all of the challenges you come up with.

Bookopoly is one of my favorites and I would play again. I agree with everyone else that I'm not keeping up with it as much, but I think that's because I haven't maintained my shelf well and other challenges get prioritized. Also, I think not owning a property has kept me less engaged. I know not everyone can own a property, so that's on me to not check on the request thread often enough and engage there. I do like the travel aspect but I've only drawn that card once. So if you do something similar again, maybe choose more than the GO square to send you somewhere else.

I truly love this game so I hope it comes back!

message 122: by Amy (new)

Amy | 2241 comments I'm having the opposite experience of most of the group in that I'm blazing through Bookopoly. I use it to help me with the SRC and your other challenges.

My biggest concern is that I'm constantly landing on properties, so I'm bugging the team to make picks for me, sometimes more than once a day. The travel aspect has been great because then I get to bug a different group to do the picking ;-)

Whatever you decide, I'm in. Your challenges are great and I look forward to seeing what you come up with each year. With the pandemic, especially, these reading challenges have kept me sane. Having audiobooks for company helps a lot during this lengthy period of isolation.

Thanks, for all you do, Tien!

I'm happy to know that some of you are really enjoying bookopoly and that it somewhat helps some of you through this crazy times! It'll be a year or two, at least, before we get back some normalcy, I think so I hope we all keep sane as best we can :)

Reading challenges definitely help me there too!

message 124: by Lisette (new)

Lisette (illusie) | 3233 comments I didn't mention earlier that I love the travel aspect as well. I have done a lot of traveling during this game. Unlike others I did play a lot of bookopoly. It helps me decide what to read, which can be a challenge for me at times lol I had a break from bookopoly, but started to play it again and really enjoy it.

Thanks for such a fun challenge, Tien!

message 125: by Beth (new)

Beth | 581 comments I am currently reading a jail book River-Horse. It is kind of slow going for me on this one so I will almost certainly not be finished by the due date. I like the book, it is just not a "page-turner". But I do intend on finishing it eventually. Just wanted to let the admins know.

I think this might be my first time in jail in all our years of Bookopoly. And I may just have lucked out. My main board is Australia, and I'm visiting in Panama. The directions say "If you are on your 'travel: Return to your Main Board."

Does that mean I start a new round on my main board, and just quit the one I was in on the travel board? So I roll again and move that many spaces from the beginning back on the Australia Board?

message 139: by Tien (new)

Tien (tiensblurb) | 9032 comments Mod
awww... I just landed in Panama too and got sent straight back home! No crossing borders in this covid season, remember? bah!

Yes, start a new round on your main board (ie. start from Go!)

If that still seems to be a problem now (It's 13 hours after you posted this), could one of the others of us start the thread for you, then let you just be able to just post to it? Message me details if you think that might help.
