Thoughts upto Chapter 2

(view spoiler)[ The Prologue had me completely interested. What did the MC do? How did he end up as as assassin?

Poor Fitz - being ignored by everyone. I don't understand wy Verity and Royal didn't do anything or why Fitz went unnoticed for half year. I guess they had other things to do and this wasn't something they really wanted to do.

Interesting thing about the Wit - I'm wondering how Fitz is going to deal with it.

The story flows beautifully and it's hard for me to keep putting it down.

Chapter 1

The story sucked me right in. I feel for Fitz already and can't wait on how he'll get right back on his feet. I can't wait for him to do awesome things ;)

Definitely a plus -- I like the tone and writing style.

I liked the first in series very much. Robin Hobb's writing is seductive.

1/3 into . I wasn't prepared to love it after reading so many books similar to it this past month, but it's great.

I was initially thinking that Fitz (view spoiler)[ was Verity's son, as everyone seems to think it's so unlike Chivalry to cat around and have a bastard. As he gets older, though, it seems probable that he is Chivalry's son.

Am I the only one that got teary-eyed when Nosy was killed? I understand why, but it didn't make it any less sad. Maybe more sad because of it. (hide spoiler)]

I agree Cynthia it was sad! Even more so because Fitz lost a friend and a companion.

I love the way time flies by in the story. It doesn't jump chapters or what but rather incorporated within a chapter within a paragraph and within a certain scenario.

Some new developments are also coming to light (view spoiler)[ like the reason for Regal's anger towards Fitz and the reason why Chivalry didn't claim his son. I found it heartbreaking that he tried to protect his son by not acknowledging him. I hate royal politics.

The nightly lessons with the assassin was a surprise too. I wonder who Chade is? Is he a royal bastard too? One time he kept saying "we" when instructing Fitz about their importance to the king and the way he said 'we' felt more meaningful. Or maybe I'm just reading too much into that conersation. I find Fitz easy to relate to, from orphan boy to bastard son to apprentice and to the boy who wants to taste a little bit of freedom.

Oh, you are in for some surprises! It only gets better the farther in you get. I'm in the middle of Chapter 20, because I couldn't put it down...

If I were reading this series when it was originally published, I would HATE having to wait for the next one. So glad I'm late to the party for once.

Finished!Such a great read. Another book I had TBR'd forever and finally read it because of the BR.

I have too many other books to set upon the 2nd one immediately, but the desire is there. In a way, I'm glad that I have it to look forward to and I'm not gobbling it all down in one gulp.

Chapter 8 (Assassin's Apprentice)

Oh but Lady Thyme was a hard woman to please. Aside from her having relations all throughout the duchy,I wonder if there is more to it than that?

(view spoiler)[ Fitz is showing potential already. His ability to read and analyze people was uncannily good. Even Verity noticed how perceptive he was. I'm growing nervous for him though because I'm sure his talents will get him noticed soon.

I love how at the end of the chapter he was unknowingly burdened by the problems brought about by Kelvar's actions. He was trying to solve it and his solutions were quite good. He's thinking long term. Potential diplomat! (hide spoiler)]

I kept calling Kelvar Kevlar, like the material. Not the worst name butchery I've committed in a fantasy novel.

Fitz is a genius! He should be promoted to diplomat now.

Upto Chapter 5 and a half: I'm feeling very much for Fitz. He's so lonely. (view spoiler)[And that trick by the King! So cold-hearted. Yet, it's amazing he has such a loyalty at this young age. (hide spoiler)]

I can't wait to continue the book - I just need to finish a book for another challenge :(

I found it necessary to remind myself frequently that he was still a child. I suppose he was forced to mature quickly.

I really don't care for King Shrewd.

I often forget he is a child until some scene calls attention to his age. I hope he gets a happy ending of sorts but browsing through the author's site, there's another trilogy continuing his adventures.

When are you all planning to start on book 2? I had started it sometime back but got distracted by other books. Maybe a BR will help me finish it!

I can't read it any earlier than next weekend, maybe more like 12/17. I've got a lot of books lined up through 12/23, but after that I'm clear for a week.

I just finished the book today - it took me quite some time to finish as I just couldn't find the time to read.

The ending - I just didn't expect it. I can't wait to read the next book. I also don't for King Shrewd.

- I loved the character development of Fitz. I love that there is still more development to come.
- I'm loving the Verity arc. I can't wait to see how they tackle Red Ships problem.
- What's the Red Ship magic? From the epilogue, Fitz will likely land on a Red Ship somehow. So many tracks!

Read these a few years back and became a Robin Hobb fan because of them. Hope you all love them as much as I did - one of these days I'm going to read them all from beginning to end as a challenge - maybe for 2015? Tempting. Haven't read the Liveship Traders but would love to.

I read the first one a while ago and loved it but I got stuck on book 2 as I found it incredibly boring. I think I made it to chapter 6 before putting it aside. I have it on my TBR for 2015 as well as book 3 so I'll definitely get back to it...eventually.

Oh I don't want Royal Assassin to be boring! I sometimes get into a rut, then pick the book up later and it's give me a totally different experience. Hopefully you'll enjoy it when you pick it up again.

I'm so ready to read the 2nd book!!!! I'm struggling with Academ's Fury right now, as it has a different tempo from the first book. Once again, I may find that next week I'm in love with it. I hope so.

I just did the same thing with the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan. I read the first book 4 years ago and didn't really care for it but decided to try it again this month. This time I really liked it and am continuing the series.

It took some time to read as I had to fit it around other books. I had some time yesterday so I could really get stuck into it. I liked it very much.

Fitz is such an interesting character. Can't wait for the next one and to see what happens.
