Logan (loganturner) | 1643 comments I will probably start this in December. I read the first book ages ago, and need to reread and then dive into the rest.

Vi | 1758 comments Has anybody started the first book? I'm starting it now..

✿~Danielle~✿ (dmh1) | 5684 comments Not yet, I got a book to read first, so maybe later or tomorrow.

Srividya Vijapure (theinkedmermaid) | 1160 comments I have already read the first one and am about half way into the second right now. Won't be able to reread the first as it was only a few months back. Will join in the discussions though.

Vi | 1758 comments I've started Assassin's Apprentice (Farseer Trilogy, #1) by Robin Hobb yesterday.

Thoughts upto Chapter 2

(view spoiler)

The story flows beautifully and it's hard for me to keep putting it down.

Chapter 1

The story sucked me right in. I feel for Fitz already and can't wait on how he'll get right back on his feet. I can't wait for him to do awesome things ;)

Definitely a plus -- I like the tone and writing style.

Vi | 1758 comments Sorry, I haven't checked in a while. I've read a bit more and will post tomorrow. Too tired to stay awake anymore.

message 17: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia (cynthiab) I've finally finished Red Seas Under Red Skies, so I can start this today. I didn't want to read them at the same time.

message 18: by Skandia (new)

Skandia (sfgirl) | 1724 comments I will join you for book 2. Probably in January.
I liked the first in series very much. Robin Hobb's writing is seductive.

message 19: by Tara (new)

Tara (tarabookreads) I'll join probably in January as well after I finish Red Seas Under Red Skies and the book after it.

message 20: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 2143 comments I would like to join in when you get to the second book. I loved Assassin's Apprentice.

message 21: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia (cynthiab) 1/3 into Assassin's Apprentice (Farseer Trilogy, #1) by Robin Hobb . I wasn't prepared to love it after reading so many books similar to it this past month, but it's great.

I was initially thinking that Fitz (view spoiler)

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments Assassin's Apprentice (Farseer Trilogy, #1) by Robin Hobb til Chapter 7

I agree Cynthia it was sad! Even more so because Fitz lost a friend and a companion.

I love the way time flies by in the story. It doesn't jump chapters or what but rather incorporated within a chapter within a paragraph and within a certain scenario.

Some new developments are also coming to light (view spoiler)

I find Fitz easy to relate to, from orphan boy to bastard son to apprentice and to the boy who wants to taste a little bit of freedom.

message 23: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia (cynthiab) Oh, you are in for some surprises! It only gets better the farther in you get. I'm in the middle of Chapter 20, because I couldn't put it down...

If I were reading this series when it was originally published, I would HATE having to wait for the next one. So glad I'm late to the party for once.

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments You just made me wish I had no patients for today so I can get some serious reading done!

message 25: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia (cynthiab) Finished!Such a great read. Another book I had TBR'd forever and finally read it because of the BR.

I have too many other books to set upon the 2nd one immediately, but the desire is there. In a way, I'm glad that I have it to look forward to and I'm not gobbling it all down in one gulp.

We'll gab about more when you're done.

I agree Cynthia, it was sad.

I've not had time to read more yet.

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments Finally had time to sit down and read more.

Chapter 8 (Assassin's Apprentice)

Oh but Lady Thyme was a hard woman to please. Aside from her having relations all throughout the duchy,I wonder if there is more to it than that?

message 28: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia (cynthiab) I kept calling Kelvar Kevlar, like the material. Not the worst name butchery I've committed in a fantasy novel.

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments Fitz is a genius! He should be promoted to diplomat now.

message 30: by Vi (new)

Vi | 1758 comments Upto Chapter 5 and a half: I'm feeling very much for Fitz. He's so lonely. (view spoiler)

I can't wait to continue the book - I just need to finish a book for another challenge :(

message 31: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia (cynthiab) I found it necessary to remind myself frequently that he was still a child. I suppose he was forced to mature quickly.

I really don't care for King Shrewd.

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments I often forget he is a child until some scene calls attention to his age. I hope he gets a happy ending of sorts but browsing through the author's site, there's another trilogy continuing his adventures.

message 33: by Srividya (new)

Srividya Vijapure (theinkedmermaid) | 1160 comments When are you all planning to start on book 2? I had started it sometime back but got distracted by other books. Maybe a BR will help me finish it!

message 34: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia (cynthiab) I can't read it any earlier than next weekend, maybe more like 12/17. I've got a lot of books lined up through 12/23, but after that I'm clear for a week.

message 35: by Vi (new)

Vi | 1758 comments I just finished the book today - it took me quite some time to finish as I just couldn't find the time to read.

The ending - I just didn't expect it. I can't wait to read the next book. I also don't for King Shrewd.

Polly Clarke | 17 comments Read these a few years back and became a Robin Hobb fan because of them. Hope you all love them as much as I did - one of these days I'm going to read them all from beginning to end as a challenge - maybe for 2015? Tempting. Haven't read the Liveship Traders but would love to.

message 38: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ I read the first one a while ago and loved it but I got stuck on book 2 as I found it incredibly boring. I think I made it to chapter 6 before putting it aside. I have it on my TBR for 2015 as well as book 3 so I'll definitely get back to it...eventually.

Oh I don't want Royal Assassin to be boring! I sometimes get into a rut, then pick the book up later and it's give me a totally different experience. Hopefully you'll enjoy it when you pick it up again.

I'm so ready to read the 2nd book!!!! I'm struggling with Academ's Fury right now, as it has a different tempo from the first book. Once again, I may find that next week I'm in love with it. I hope so.

message 40: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 2143 comments I just did the same thing with the Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan. I read the first book 4 years ago and didn't really care for it but decided to try it again this month. This time I really liked it and am continuing the series.

Not a fan of King Shrewd.

Yes, you do forget that he's a child. He's really interesting to read though.

It took some time to read as I had to fit it around other books. I had some time yesterday so I could really get stuck into it. I liked it very much.

Fitz is such an interesting character. Can't wait for the next one and to see what happens.
