Sounds like the name of a porno movie."
I thought so too.

I thought so too.

What I liked was that, while each was great, they all looked at the story from a different point of view. It's interesting to sit and watch both versions of Postman together.

I have never seen the real movies either. I have been wanting to see the mini series Mildred Pierce, but I usually favor reading to watching TV. I'll make exceptions for Sherlock and others, but I need to make space for the MP series one of these days.

Definitely no spoilers! I'm not much of a tv watcher either, but I do love to see books I've read and enjoyed come to life on the screen.

Well, maybe we ought to have a little noir reading group and focus on a different title each month!

Shhhhh!
Shhhhh!

Highly unlikely, Tom. But funny."
You're right. Hard-Boiled Eggheads is better.

Shhhhh!"
I haven't read it. I couldn't possibly reveal anything.

Egghead brings to mind a bald scientist wearing glasses and a lab coat. None of those fits my description.

My picture is big brains picking apart a subject. That's definitely us.

The actual movie with Joan Crawford.

The discussion about the "real movies" actually raises an interesting point though. It never occurred to me that the movie corruption of the proper endings as depicted in the books is actually an opportunity. I have loved the main four Cain books so much that I have mourned the fact that there aren't any more. Same is true with Hammett and Chandler. Particularly in the old days, authors often had some involvement in the movie renditions of their works. I would be curious to look up which of the Cain, Hammett and Chandler movies the authors themselves worked on (or even wrote the screenplay). Those author reworked movies are an opportunity to see the author presenting a different ending to their story. In a way, it allows the enthusiast (like me) to experience a "new" work from one of the big three.

I recently finished another good noir novel Build My Gallows High - then watched the movie based on the book (Out of the past) and screenwritten by the author. Talk about different!

It's a great book but I had a very hard time tracking down a copy.

I'd like to read that one.

Another good book, certainly! I want to see the movie again now.

The book is a lot better than the movie Tom..I had somebody tell me before I started reading it..that its more dark and sinister..and they were right. Its a good psychological thriller:)I like that!

also Tom,the lady who wrote Strangers on a Train..also wrote "The Talented Mr.Ripley" and then went on to write the rest of the Ripley books.

I have both. I just haven't read them.

Not your average love story! http://www.magazineart.org/main.php/v...
The story is based on a New York crime, whose claim to fame is the infamous picture of the Ruth Synder in the electric chair taken by a camera taped to an ankle of a reporter.

I love the way James M, Cain packs so much information in a single sentence or a tightly packed paragraph.
So cool -- thanks!
All right, fellow readers, I have now posted an official Double Indemnity thread for us to use so feel free to post away! Just please keep in mind two very important things:
1) be considerate of the other readers in the discussions, meaning politeness should prevail and
2) please, no spoilers until after December 10, in case people wish to join this little group later in the game.

I enjoyed Atticus and Ron Hansen, and not crime, but his Mariette in Ecstasy.
