I am with you Anima on all points. And sorry to tell you that (from my perspective anyway) it doesn't improve. Very interesting concept with really boring characters ;)

Amanda A | 629 comments 6 - So, as expected, Gwyneth travels back in time. What did you think about the little differences in everything (like the doorbell, the cars, etc)? And Gwyneth's first thought was to go back home. Do you think it was the right thing to do? What would you have done?

Wanting to go back home is a natural desire. I would have done the same thing.

7 - That was a shock! This remotes back to Sir Isaac Newton. Do you think there's going to be a conspiracy going on, something like Da Vinci's code, but for teens and time travelling?

I had no idea how Newton was involved, but wanted to find out.

8 - What did you think about aunt Maddy's vision?

Her vision sounded dangerous for Gwyneth.

9 - The second time travel happens. This one was a very close call, with everyone else trying to find her. What did you think about Mr Bernard's showing up out of nowhere? He is a strange fellow. I keep thinking he suspects Gwyneth's time travelling gene, but if he does, he hasn't mentioned anything!

I also think he knows about Gwyneth's time travelling.

10 - The tidbit before chapter 5, tells us of Gwyneth's adventure, but it also blames her for the disappearance of some items. Do you think this will be significant?

I think it could come back on Gwyneth later.

11 - I love that Leslie was trying so hard to help. All that information and Back to the Future movies xD and Google! Do you think Leslie will be able to find something about this close guarded secret?

No

12 - Mr Whiteman wears a signet ring just like Gwyneth's grandfather used to. And then he says that Charlotte won't be back in school "until everything has ...returned to normal". Do you think he is a Guardian? Or maybe a watcher of sorts? He definitely knows something, specially considering the design of his signet ring.

I think he was most likely a Guardian.

13 - And the third jump takes Gwyneth to see herself in a wig and strange clothes. AND kissing this very handsome boy. Do you think the boy could be the famous Gideon de Villiers? And why was Gwyneth 2 trying so hard to hide Gwyneth 1 from him?

I did think it was Gideon.

Amanda A | 629 comments 14. Do you think James is starting to come to grips with this ghostness? What role do you see him playing in the book? He seemed to be in denial, but I liked James.

16. Aunt Glenda is a rather mean lady. Do you think there's more to her protests than just wanting to be the center of attention? No, I think she just wanted her way and she did not believe Grace was telling the truth.

18. We have confirmation on Mr. Whitman being a member of the group. Do you think it was chance that he was both Gwyneth and Charlottes teacher? No

19. Mr. George sounds remarkably calm about Gywneth's ability to see ghosts. Do you think the group knows of other abilities besides the time travel and visions? Yes

20. What a crazy and varied group of people. Was there anyone who stood out as your favorite? Anyone you really disliked? I liked Mr. George and Robert. Aunt Glenda was whiny and really annoying.

Chapter 14 - End

34. At first, Gideon is portrayed as a self-righteous know it all with a cocky attitude. How do you think his character has developed so far? Do you think it's all for show, or do you think that's just who he is?

I think it's a little of both, but I think he is a kinder person than he lets on.

35. Gwyneth's great-great-grandmother will only negotiate with Gwyneth and no one else. Why will she only speak to Gwyneth, and how does she know?

I think she probably knows not to trust the Guardians and that Gwyneth isn't motivated by selfish interests.

36. Oh no! It seems this was a trap as Gideon thought! Were you expecting Paul and Lucy to be there with Lady Tilney? Why do they want Gwyneth and Gideon to stay?

I think Paul and Lucy are Gwyneth's parents and have inportant information about the Guardian that they want only Gwyneth to know.

37. Gideon kisses Gwyneth inside of the church confessional. Were you expecting him to develop feelings for Gwyneth so quickly? Do you think he knows they've already kissed in the past?

I didn't, but I am glad that he did. I don't think he knows.

38. From what I gather it seems that Gwyneth is the daughter of Lucy and Paul! Did you ever suspect that Grace was hiding such a big secret as this? What do you expect will be Gwyneth's reaction when/if she finds out?

I didn't suspect until about half way though the book. I think Gwyneth will understandably be upset, but hopefully will know it was a necessity.

39. Now that we know Gwyneth is the daughter of Lucy and Paul, are you surprised that Gwyneth and Gideon have developed feelings for each other? Or do you think it was meant to be?

Not surprised, but not really sure it was meant to be. Just a happy outcome of two people meeting that turned out to like each other. I'm not really a believer in "meant to be."

Amanda A | 629 comments 21. We’ve learned already that Grace hid the birth of Gywneth’s early arrival. That she hoped that Gywneth might be a carrier of the time traveling gene. If you were in Grace’s situation, would you have hid the birth of your child? Would you have bribed the midwife to change the birthday? Also do you think Grace is behind the midwife leaving so quickly? Yes, I would have done the same thing that Grace did in an attempt to protect my child. And I do think Grace is behind the midwife leaving.

22. What do you think the mission is? I have finished the book, but at this point I thought the mission was to close the circle.

24. We’ve learned more of why Lucy stole the chronograph and with Paul, Falk de Villiers brother. They went to the past forever, what time period do you think they went to keep safe? Also, why would Grace help them? I think Grace helped them because she wanted to protect them.

25. We learned some of the reasons why Grace is adamant about Gywneth Count Saint-Germain. He can read thoughts and control their will. Do you think this is true? After Gywneth met the count, do you think he is still able to read minds? Yes, I think he can read minds.

26. Do you think it’s right for Gideon to travel back in time and tell the Guardians companies to invest in like Apple? I thought that was funny, but it was not right. They seemed clueless anyway.

27. Gywneth was asked by the count if she had any special abilities. She didn’t think so. Do you think some of the other Circle of the Blood has special abilities? Is it possible Gideon can read thoughts too? Do you think Gywneth hasn’t discovered hers yet? I do think Gideon can read minds and Gwyneth's ability is to see ghosts.

Amanda A | 629 comments 28. For a smart girl, Gywneth forgets to think sometimes. Really? Using her phone? At least she discovers the count's abilities. In a scary, life threatening kind of way. Which one would you prefer? Listening to your thoughts or the one he displayed? I would prefer listening to thoughts.

30. Gywneth runs to Gideon help and ends up saving his life. She also wounds or maybe kills one of the assailants. Not bad for a girl without training. I'm wondering how that action will affect her in the future? I think it will affect her in the future and probably won't be the only time she has to defend herself or someone else.

31.Gideon seemed really concerned with her. Maybe the kiss she saw in her last travelling isn't that accidental? I didn't think it was accidental.

33.Am I the only one thinking is really strange that Mr. Whitman was the one discovering them on the bathroom. And how would he know about the file in the first place? What is happening here? I thought that was strange too.

Amanda A | 629 comments 34. At first, Gideon is portrayed as a self-righteous know it all with a cocky attitude. How do you think his character has developed so far? Do you think it's all for show, or do you think that's just who he is? He had a privileged childhood and I think it is a result of that and his feeling of entitlement.

35. Gwyneth's great-great-grandmother will only negotiate with Gwyneth and no one else. Why will she only speak to Gwyneth, and how does she know? Lucy and Paul talked to her first and convinced her to do that.

36. Oh no! It seems this was a trap as Gideon thought! Were you expecting Paul and Lucy to be there with Lady Tilney? Why do they want Gwyneth and Gideon to stay? I did expect Lucy and Paul to be involved. They wanted Gideon and Gwyneth to stay so they could explain their side of the story regarding the chronograph.

37. Gideon kisses Gwyneth inside of the church confessional. Were you expecting him to develop feelings for Gwyneth so quickly? Do you think he knows they've already kissed in the past? I was not surprised he developed feelings so quickly, it is YA and there is usually a love triangle.

38. From what I gather it seems that Gwyneth is the daughter of Lucy and Paul! Did you ever suspect that Grace was hiding such a big secret as this? What do you expect will be Gwyneth's reaction when/if she finds out? I did suspect this and I think Gwyneth will feel hurt and betrayed when she finds out.

39. Now that we know Gwyneth is the daughter of Lucy and Paul, are you surprised that Gwyneth and Gideon have developed feelings for each other? Or do you think it was meant to be? I was not surprised.

34. At first, Gideon is portrayed as a self-righteous know it all with a cocky attitude. How do you think his character has developed so far? Do you think it's all for show, or do you think that's just who he is?

I can't warm up to him at all...Hopefully, he will become more likable in the second book.

35. Gwyneth's great-great-grandmother will only negotiate with Gwyneth and no one else. Why will she only speak to Gwyneth, and how does she know?

Lucy&Paul must have talked to her first...

36. Oh no! It seems this was a trap as Gideon thought! Were you expecting Paul and Lucy to be there with Lady Tilney? Why do they want Gwyneth and Gideon to stay?

I wasn't that surprised that Paul and Lucy were there. They want Gwyneth and Gideon to know about their side of the story and warn them.

37. Gideon kisses Gwyneth inside of the church confessional. Were you expecting him to develop feelings for Gwyneth so quickly? Do you think he knows they've already kissed in the past?

He probably doesn't know that they kissed in the past. I wasn't surprised it happened so fast.

38. From what I gather it seems that Gwyneth is the daughter of Lucy and Paul! Did you ever suspect that Grace was hiding such a big secret as this? What do you expect will be Gwyneth's reaction when/if she finds out?

I suspected it and Gwyneth probably will be pretty shaken up when she finds out.

39. Now that we know Gwyneth is the daughter of Lucy and Paul, are you surprised that Gwyneth and Gideon have developed feelings for each other? Or do you think it was meant to be?

It is a YA book after all, it was bound to happen. I am not surprised at all.

I will read the second book even though I couldn't warm up to the characters, I still found it entertaining.

Prologue - Chapter 2

1. Theories on the prologue? Who is Grace? (there seem to be a lot of "G" names in the family!)

I think that Grace is a baby that they gave up to protect

2. So Leslie is Gwyneth's friend, Charlotte is her cousin, James is the ghost and Caroline and Nick are her siblings. Thoughts on the characters so far?
Gwyneth is completely grace, and shes the one that will be time traveling, I think James is awesome, a cute little sidekick type guy, Charlotte seems to be the stuck up witch.

3. What do you think is with the man in black outside their house? Why is no-one concerned about him?

they probably know about him, are waiting on time traveling stuff to start

4. Do you like the writing style / the humour and the little newspaper clippings or book excerpts before each chapter?

im not a fan of exerpts and things like that, most of the time i have to force myself to read them.

5. How annoying that Gwyneth hasn't worked out her symptoms! I wonder why her family haven't realised she has the gene?

i stll think grace is her, and her family probably doesnt realize she isn't the biological daughter of whateshername

6 - So, as expected, Gwyneth travels back in time. What did you think about the little differences in everything (like the doorbell, the cars, etc)? And Gwyneth's first thought was to go back home. Do you think it was the right thing to do? What would you have done?

I probably would have freaked and wanted to go home too, especially since I know ziltch about that time period and most of what I know is people getting their heads chopped off or burned for being witches or plague stuff.

7 - That was a shock! This remotes back to Sir Isaac Newton. Do you think there's going to be a conspiracy going on, something like Da Vinci's code, but for teens and time travelling?

A secret society for sure

8 - What did you think about aunt Maddy's vision?

not sure yet, clock and gwyneth obviously go together time travel wise

9 - The second time travel happens. This one was a very close call, with everyone else trying to find her. What did you think about Mr Bernard's showing up out of nowhere? He is a strange fellow. I keep thinking he suspects Gwyneth's time travelling gene, but if he does, he hasn't mentioned anything!

he probably does suspect, butlers know all

10 - The tidbit before chapter 5, tells us of Gwyneth's adventure, but it also blames her for the disappearence of some items. Do you think this will be significant?

not sure yet, cause i dont recall reading that bit

11 - I love that Leslie was trying so hard to help. All that information and Back to the Future movies xD and Google! Do you think Leslie will be able to find something about this close guarded secret?

no, but i wouldnt be surprised if shes drafted into this society as a historian of some sort

12 - Mr Whiteman wears a signet ring just like Gwyneth's grandfather used to. And then he says that Charlotte won't be back in school "until everything has ...returned to normal". Do you think he is a Guardian? Or maybe a watcher of sorts? He definitely knows something, specially considering the design of his signet ring.

he probably is a guardian, mostly i think this because of the fact that he's in the book a lot so far, he's got to be a significant character

13 - And the third jump takes Gwyneth to see herself in a wig and strange clothes. AND kissing this very handsome boy. Do you think the boy could be the famous Gideon de Villiers? And why was Gwyneth 2 trying so hard to hide Gwyneth 1 from him?

she probably remembers what happens and was keeping this trip a secret.

14. Do you think James is starting to come to grips with this ghostness? What role do you see him playing in the book?

he probably always knew, but chose to selectively deny it And i hope he shows more often, i like him a lot.

15. Aunt Maddy's vision had a sapphire breaking and a chick popping out and ravens. It seems to be coming very close to the poem of the 12 time travelers. Thoughts?

According to the poem of the 12, Lucy is the sapphire. So i think the sapphire breaking and a chick popping out, is telling us that Gwyn is really Lucy's daughter.

16. Aunt Glenda is a rather mean lady. Do you think there's more to her protests than just wanting to be the center of attention?
I think its a bit of realizing her claim to fame is gone, she spent allt hese years thinking she and her daughter were special and above all else, but it turns out they are just a big nobody in the scheme of the society and time travel

17. Gideon was her secret love in the past. Thoughts? Why do you think she was so set on him not seeing her double?

I dont remember anything about him being her secret love. I think that she has a crush on him, but denies it and hasnt realized it yet much. i think the scene with the double was just supposed to be a secret, it'd get wierd if it came out she already knew about all that.

18. We have confirmation on Mr. Whitman being a member of the group. Do you think it was chance that he was both Gwyneth and Charlottes teacher?

nah, he probably was placed there to keep an eye on charlotte

19. Mr. George sounds remarkably calm about Gywneth's ability to see ghosts. Do you think the group knows of other abilities besides the time travel and visions?

It seems that a lot of people have hidden powers, and apparently Ruby had the power of ravens according to the song, so we're expecting some sort of power

20. What a crazy and varied group of people. Was there anyone who stood out as your favorite? Anyone you really disliked?

So far I like James, the seamstress, and mr. George.

34. At first, Gideon is portrayed as a self-righteous know it all with a cocky attitude. How do you think his character has developed so far? Do you think it's all for show, or do you think that's just who he is?

I think it's likely he was self-righteous with a cocky attitude who knew it all. I think that Gwyneth has opened his eyes and perhaps influenced Gideon to look at the world slightly different because she really is not like any girl he has known before.

35. Gwyneth's great-great-grandmother will only negotiate with Gwyneth and no one else. Why will she only speak to Gwyneth, and how does she know?
Gwyneth's G-G-Grandma seems to understand that Gwyneth doesn't have a hidden agenda and means no ill will so she trusts her.

36. Oh no! It seems this was a trap as Gideon thought! Were you expecting Paul and Lucy to be there with Lady Tilney? Why do they want Gwyneth and Gideon to stay?
I actually was not surprised Paul & Lucy were there waiting for Gwyneth and Gideon. I think Paul & Lucy were hoping to have a conversation with Gwyneth (and possibly Gideon) about what they are aware of as far as what the Guardians are after and what the completion of the mission actually means to everyone.

37. Gideon kisses Gwyneth inside of the church confessional. Were you expecting him to develop feelings for Gwyneth so quickly? Do you think he knows they've already kissed in the past?
I figured since Gideon and Gwyneth were found kissing earlier in the book, it was a matter of just "when" it was going to happen in the book. I was kind of surprised it happened so fast... Gideon obviously had a big change of heart since he was previously enamored by Charlotte and thought Gwyneth a common girl -- to all of a sudden forgetting about Charlotte and swapping spit with Gwyneth. If I were Gwyneth, I think I would have made him sweat it out a little longer since he was so pompous and belittling towards Gwyneth! :D I don't think Gideon was aware they'd kissed previously.

38. From what I gather it seems that Gwyneth is the daughter of Lucy and Paul! Did you ever suspect that Grace was hiding such a big secret as this? What do you expect will be Gwyneth's reaction when/if she finds out?
I did suspect Grace was hiding this secret about half way into the book. I think Gwyneth will be upset she's been lied to her entire life about who her mother, siblings and father are... It's a big mind shift and one I don't suspect she knows is coming.

39. Now that we know Gwyneth is the daughter of Lucy and Paul, are you surprised that Gwyneth and Gideon have developed feelings for each other? Or do you think it was meant to be?
I don't know exactly about it being "meant to be" but I did see it coming so it wasn't surprising.

34. At first, Gideon is portrayed as a self-righteous know it all with a cocky attitude. How do you think his character has developed so far? Do you think it's all for show, or do you think that's just who he is?

I think thats just the way he is, a product of his upbringing, I do think that Gwyneth will open his eyes to seeing the other side of things. he will probably warm up a bit

35. Gwyneth's great-great-grandmother will only negotiate with Gwyneth and no one else. Why will she only speak to Gwyneth, and how does she know?

im not really sure how to answer this, since the meeting ended up revealing lucy and paul too.

36. Oh no! It seems this was a trap as Gideon thought! Were you expecting Paul and Lucy to be there with Lady Tilney? Why do they want Gwyneth and Gideon to stay?

I wasn't expecting it really, but i think they wanted them to stay to talk about the "truth" behind the closing of the circle, whatever that may be.

37. Gideon kisses Gwyneth inside of the church confessional. Were you expecting him to develop feelings for Gwyneth so quickly? Do you think he knows they've already kissed in the past?

this is the second question ive answered about "kissing in the past or something about the past" between these two. from what I understood, maybe im wrong, but i thought the kissing scene that she walked in on, was future them and hasn't happened yet. i dont think he was aware at all that they had kissed before, because it hadnt happened. maybe i just completely didnt read the book right? i dont know

38. From what I gather it seems that Gwyneth is the daughter of Lucy and Paul! Did you ever suspect that Grace was hiding such a big secret as this? What do you expect will be Gwyneth's reaction when/if she finds out?

i knew the entire time that the baby was gwenth, i called it from the start.

39. Now that we know Gwyneth is the daughter of Lucy and Paul, are you surprised that Gwyneth and Gideon have developed feelings for each other? Or do you think it was meant to be?

it wasnt all that surprising, plus most stories seem to need to have a love interest between the two main M/F characters.

28. For a smart girl, Gywneth forgets to think sometimes. Really? Using her phone? At least she discovers the count's abilities. In a scary, life threatening kind of way. Which one would you prefer? Listening to your thoughts or the one he displayed?
Hrm. Not sure. Sookie Stackhouse didn't seem to enjoy the listening to thoughts very well. I think any power would complicate your life quite a bit. The phone thing seemed strange. They don't seem to worry about contaminating the time line at all in this book which seems a bit irresponsible.

29.The were ambushed! How? Who could be powerful enough? Or interested in their failure? The count? The creepy guy that looks like a vampire?
I thought they might be after the phone. I suppose maybe someone earlier in the timeline could get the cronograph to work with everyone's blood too if they captured people as they went back in time. Or maybe it's Lucy and Paul who did it.

30. Gywneth runs to Gideon help and ends up saving his life. She also wounds or maybe kills one of the assailants. Not bad for a girl without training. I'm wondering how did that action will affect her in the future?
I think it's probably a lot harder to do that than she made it out to be. But I think the self defense reasoning will make it ok.

31.Gideon seemed really concerned with her. Maybe the kiss she saw in her last travelling isn't that accidental?
I suppose he'd probably end up being concerned about anyone he traveled with since she's the only one he can do this stuff with.

32.It seems that someone is giving them away. But how can that be since they only discovered she was the Ruby two days ago?
Maybe they already planned to when Charlotte was having headaches? Otherwise, it is time travel, not like they couldn't set it up in the past to know about now.

33.Am I the only one thinking is really strange that Mr. Whitman was the one discovering them on the bathroom. And how would he know about the file in the first place? What is happening here?
I think he's keeping an eye on the kids in school.

34. At first, Gideon is portrayed as a self-righteous know it all with a cocky attitude. How do you think his character has developed so far? Do you think it's all for show, or do you think that's just who he is?
I think he's still rather cocky.

35. Gwyneth's great-great-grandmother will only negotiate with Gwyneth and no one else. Why will she only speak to Gwyneth, and how does she know?
I assume they're trying to influence the only one they still can. Though I don't think the author does a very good job of keeping the time line making sense.

36. Oh no! It seems this was a trap as Gideon thought! Were you expecting Paul and Lucy to be there with Lady Tilney? Why do they want Gwyneth and Gideon to stay?
Well, it wasn't really a trap since they were just fine and just wanted to talk. I kindof believe Lucy and Paul.

37. Gideon kisses Gwyneth inside of the church confessional. Were you expecting him to develop feelings for Gwyneth so quickly? Do you think he knows they've already kissed in the past?
It seemed rather sudden to me. Like "oh, the book is ending and I needed to do that kiss thing".

38. From what I gather it seems that Gwyneth is the daughter of Lucy and Paul! Did you ever suspect that Grace was hiding such a big secret as this? What do you expect will be Gwyneth's reaction when/if she finds out?
I assume she will at some point. It says Paul was born 1974 so I suppose Gwyneth could be his born in 1994. Lucy was 1976 so that would have put her at 18. Plus then isn't she related to Gideon which is icky. I don't really want another City of Bones thing where they think they're related but in love.

39. Now that we know Gwyneth is the daughter of Lucy and Paul, are you surprised that Gwyneth and Gideon have developed feelings for each other? Or do you think it was meant to be?
I hope they're not related.... sigh.

Overall, I think the author took too many liberties with the timeline. It doesn't really make sense even giving some leeway for the whole time travel is tricky. 3 Stars.

6 - So, as expected, Gwyneth travels back in time. What did you think about the little differences in everything (like the doorbell, the cars, etc)? And Gwyneth's first thought was to go back home. Do you think it was the right thing to do? What would you have done?

Naturally, there are going to be differences, and if I were in her place, I'd likely have gone back too. I may be getting the family lines crossed, but as the time-travelling is genetic, I'd hope that by going home, the family would hopefully be somewhat aware of the condition and could help (assuming the gene had appeared at that point).

7 - That was a shock! This remotes back to Sir Isaac Newton. Do you think there's going to be a conspiracy going on, something like Da Vinci's code, but for teens and time travelling?

It's definitely leading up to something of the kind. I do like how they brought in a historical figure like Newton. It adds a bit of extra intrigue.

8 - What did you think about aunt Maddy's vision?

No idea, but I expect some stuff to do go down...

The fact that she appear in the exact physical spot wherever she travels in history has definitely been inconvenient thus far. I figure the butler is just a very light sleeper with the need to always be alert and know what's going on in the house. Butlers are creepy and all-knowing like that, so perhaps he knows more, but I'm not so sure right now.

10 - The tidbit before chapter 5, tells us of Gwyneth's adventure, but it also blames her for the disappearence of some items. Do you think this will be significant?

I'm sure it will. Perhaps one of the staff used all of the confusion in their hunt for Gwyneth to lift a few items.

11 - I love that Leslie was trying so hard to help. All that information and Back to the Future movies xD and Google! Do you think Leslie will be able to find something about this close guarded secret?

Sometimes I forget that this is written in modern times, so it keeps throwing me with all of the modern references. The historical information is helpful, but I'm not sure if she'll find anything about the secret (which means she probably will).

He definitely knows what's going on and is involved somehow, whether as a Guardian or whatnot, I'm not sure. He may have been keeping an eye on Charlotte, but I bet his focus will change now.

13 - And the third jump takes Gwyneth to see herself in a wig and strange clothes. AND kissing this very handsome boy. Do you think the boy could be the famous Gideon de Villiers? And why was Gwyneth 2 trying so hard to hide Gwyneth 1 from him?

I have no idea who the boy is, but it's probably some big plot that she's involved in from some future time. Assuming the boy knows nothing about time travel, that's enough reason for Gwyneth 2 to want to hide Gwyneth 1. I'll admit, I liked that little twist. I was expecting an ancestor with knowledge of time travel, not Gwyneth herself.

1. Theories on the prologue? Who is Grace? (there seem to be a lot of "G" names in the family!)
The couple is a time-traveling pair who have left their child somewhen "safe" to be raised until she's 16-17 years old.

2. So Leslie is Gwyneth's friend, Charlotte is her cousin, James is the ghost and Caroline and Nick are her siblings. Thoughts on the characters so far?
Charlotte has been told all of her life that she's special -- and she believes what she is told.
Leslie seems like a good buddy to Gwyneth.
James -- ghost or time traveler?
Caroline and Nick -- younger siblings.

3. What do you think is with the man in black outside their house? Why is no-one concerned about him?
The elders must know who he is and they are OK with him being there. I'm suspecting he has something to do with time traveling.

4. Do you like the writing style / the humour and the little newspaper clippings or book excerpts before each chapter?
Yes, so far.

5. How annoying that Gwyneth hasn't worked out her symptoms! I wonder why her family haven't realised she has the gene?
The theory of who gets (and who does not get) the time travel gene, applied to Gwyneth and Charlotte, states that Charlotte will time travel and Gwyneth will not. Maybe the theory is incorrect? and her family doesn't realize that the theory is incorrect.

Chapters 12-13

28. For a smart girl, Gywneth forgets to think sometimes. Really? Using her phone? At least she discovers the count's abilities. In a scary, life threatening kind of way. Which one would you prefer? Listening to your thoughts or the one he displayed?
I would rather not be around someone with the ability to read my thoughts. At least I would be able to plot an escape or a counter attack if he is not in my head.

29.The were ambushed! How? Who could be powerful enough? Or interested in their failure? The count? The creepy guy that looks like a vampire?
I am not sure who else is out to get them. I seriously don't believe it was Paul and Lucy. The Count, I believe, is deranged. I could see him trying to get the last of the blood needed then killing all the other travelers from the future so he could be the 'all powerful' or something along those lines.

30. Gywneth runs to Gideon help and ends up saving his life. She also wounds or maybe kills one of the assailants. Not bad for a girl without training. I'm wondering how did that action will affect her in the future?
I think that made her realize this is not all just a game. This is her new life and her actions have consequenses. It made her mature in a way.

31.Gideon seemed really concerned with her. Maybe the kiss she saw in her last travelling isn't that accidental?
I think Gideon is selfish. I am sure he would have 'feelings' for anyone that has the 'gene'.

32.It seems that someone is giving them away. But how can that be since they only discovered she was the Ruby two days ago?
Well, when you are playing with time travel anything is possible. I don't think the travel to the past is not a true reality but one of their rules or just something they are not able to do yet.

33.Am I the only one thinking is really strange that Mr. Whitman was the one discovering them on the bathroom. And how would he know about the file in the first place? What is happening here?
I am sure Mr. Whitman was send to keep an eye on Gywneth now that she can travel. I would not put it past him to stand outside the stall and listen in on what they were saying.

Chapter 14 - End

34. At first, Gideon is portrayed as a self-righteous know it all with a cocky attitude. How do you think his character has developed so far? Do you think it's all for show, or do you think that's just who he is?
I think that is who he has been brought up to be. He certainly has a superiority complex and I think he is only intirested in Gywneth because he found out that she is 'special' like him. I don't like him at all.

35. Gwyneth's great-great-grandmother will only negotiate with Gwyneth and no one else. Why will she only speak to Gwyneth, and how does she know?
She probably thinks she can get to Gwyneth before she is 'brain washed'. That was the whole point of keeping her true birthday a secret, so she wouldn't be controlled and trained from birth to do as she is told.

36. Oh no! It seems this was a trap as Gideon thought! Were you expecting Paul and Lucy to be there with Lady Tilney? Why do they want Gwyneth and Gideon to stay?
I wasn't very suprised that they were there. I wish she had stayed and talked to them.

37. Gideon kisses Gwyneth inside of the church confessional. Were you expecting him to develop feelings for Gwyneth so quickly? Do you think he knows they've already kissed in the past?
I don't think he knows they 'already/havn't yet but will' kiss/ed. I believe he only likes Gwyneth because they are the two time travelers of their generation.

38. From what I gather it seems that Gwyneth is the daughter of Lucy and Paul! Did you ever suspect that Grace was hiding such a big secret as this? What do you expect will be Gwyneth's reaction when/if she finds out?
I am sure Gwyneth is going to be suprised and even more sympathetic to their cause, I am suprised they have not found a way to give her the news already. I keep wondering what happened to Grace's child...she was pregnant.

39. Now that we know Gwyneth is the daughter of Lucy and Paul, are you surprised that Gwyneth and Gideon have developed feelings for each other? Or do you think it was meant to be?
I think Gideon believes it is 'ment to be' I hope Gwyneth drops him when she sides with her real parents.

Chapter 3 - Chapter 5

6 - So, as expected, Gwyneth travels back in time. Gwyneth's first thought was to go back home. Do you think it was the right thing to do? What would you have done?
I think it was a natural thing for her to do especially because there might have been someone there who would recognize that she’s from a different time and might help her.

7 - That was a shock! This remotes back to Sir Isaac Newton. Do you think there's going to be a conspiracy going on, something like Da Vinci's code, but for teens and time travelling?
Yes! I predict: a secret society!

8 - What did you think about aunt Maddy's vision?
Forshadowing. Definitely means Gwyneth is in danger. And, since Book #2 of the series is called “Sapphire Blue”, the forshadowing could be of events in Book #2.

He’s definitely more than a butler – he’s a part of the time-traveling secret-keeping.

10 - The tidbit before chapter 5, tells us of Gwyneth's adventure, but it also blames her for the disappearence of some items. Do you think this will be significant?
Yes, it will be significant. I’m thinking that since everyone *knows* there’s a thief in the house, now is a good time for one of the servants to steal some items and blame it on Gwyneth.

11 - I love that Leslie was trying so hard to help. All that information and Back to the Future movies xD and Google! Do you think Leslie will be able to find something about this close guarded secret?
She’s a good friend to Gwyneth. I hope she gets a good storyline going forward.

Not sure what a Guardian is (yet) ….. I’d say he’s definitely a watcher of sorts. He’s there to keep an eye on Charlotte (remember, everyone expects her to be the one who timetravels.)

13 - And the third jump takes Gwyneth to see herself in a wig and strange clothes. AND kissing this very handsome boy. Do you think the boy could be the famous Gideon de Villiers? And why was Gwyneth 2 trying so hard to hide Gwyneth 1 from him?
Gwyneth 2 trying to prevent paradoxes?

On to the next section!

Chapters 6-8
Pages 96-160

14. Do you think James is starting to come to grips with this ghostness? What role do you see him playing in the book?
James & his ghostness – not really. I think Gwyneth & James will meet sometime when she time travels to when he is alive.

15. Aunt Maddy's vision had a sapphire breaking and a chick popping out and ravens. It seems to be coming very close to the poem of the 12 time travelers. Thoughts?
Still doesn’t make sense to me.

16. Aunt Glenda is a rather mean lady. Do you think there's more to her protests than just wanting to be the center of attention?
She wants status and power. She also has major sibling rivalry going on with her sister (Gwyneth’s mother).

17. Gideon was her secret love in the past. Thoughts? Why do you think she was so set on him not seeing her double?
Fear of paradox?

18. We have confirmation on Mr. Whitman being a member of the group. Do you think it was chance that he was both Gwyneth and Charlottes teacher?
No – I think it was by design, so he would be available when their time travelling genes kick in.

19. Mr. George sounds remarkably calm about Gywneth's ability to see ghosts. Do you think the group knows of other abilities besides the time travel and visions?
Yes!

20. What a crazy and varied group of people. Was there anyone who stood out as your favorite? Anyone you really disliked?
I liked both the ghosts (James & Robert). I disliked Aunt Glenda, but then, we are not told of any positives in her personality.

Anima Miejska | 757 comments Day three up till the end

Meh. I am going to rate this book one star. I'm so very disappointed. Great concept, interesting idea with the stones, powers, time travels and paranormal activity (what with the ghosts), but everything else is so very not well-done, or even in an average way.

The character building is not there - I can't even begin to phatom who Gwen really is, or her aunt, or Charlotte. They were given some really basic, rather stereotypical traits, and nothing more. Gwen seems to be shallow and stupid on one occasion, brave and witty on others, so full of inconsistencies, but that would be ok, it is only human to be inconsistent, if it was done with some skill or on purpose. Here, I think it is a pure coicidence. The only really funny and likeable characters are two ghosts - James and Robert. Lisa seems to be a character with some potential, but she steals the show from Gwen that way.

I'm also really unhappy about the plot. The whole book seems to be just a prologue to the next installments, and after this experience I'm rather unwilling to go with the series... So if anyone decides to read next parts, just let me know what happened next.

As I suspected, Lucy and Peter are The Parents, but I almost knew it since the Prologue, so no real surprise here...

And this "fast" romance between Gwen and Gideon... hm, if the writer was more skillful I would suspect some deception on his part here, but again, I doubt to be that intricate and intrigue...

All in all, I have a deep feeling of disappointment. Great possibilities, so poorly used.

Alex | 1018 comments Anima, do you reckon that some of these faults are due to the book being a translation? I felt at times that there were moments that didn't come across very well, but may have come across better if read in the original German.

Amina - I can understand some of your frustration with this. As Zee says some of the subtleties of characterisation might have been lost with the translation...
The book didn't feel to me that it had a distinct plot. It felt like it came to an end without anything being resolved - I just went straight to the next book. Having read all 3 now I think it would have worked better if it had been edited a bit and released as 1 book.

I liked all the chapter starters - it's a good way to get some background info in without stilting the chapter flow.

28. For a smart girl, Gywneth forgets to think sometimes. Really? Using her phone? At least she discovers the count's abilities. In a scary, life threatening kind of way. Which one would you prefer? Listening to your thoughts or the one he displayed?

Listening. Definitely listening. He was scary. I don't think I've heard of a nice Count before. He's extremely intimidating.

29.The were ambushed! How? Who could be powerful enough? Or interested in their failure? The count? The creepy guy that looks like a vampire?
The creepy guy might not be bad. But I can't say. My bets are on the Count.

30. Gywneth runs to Gideon help and ends up saving his life. She also wounds or maybe kills one of the assailants. Not bad for a girl without training. I'm wondering how did that action will affect her in the future?
I think it will haunt her for a while and people will use that as a weakness. I think she's going to turn that into a strength though.

31.Gideon seemed really concerned with her. Maybe the kiss she saw in her last travelling isn't that accidental?
I've mentioned before that I think Gideon knows what's up. He kept calling her Winnie. That's not a name you give to someone...even by accident.

32.It seems that someone is giving them away. But how can that be since they only discovered she was the Ruby two days ago?
I think with Gwyneth having been revealed as the actual Ruby, people are trying to make her look like the bad guy. As though she actually meant to steal Charlotte's place.

33.Am I the only one thinking is really strange that Mr. Whitman was the one discovering them on the bathroom. And how would he know about the file in the first place? What is happening here?
Mr. Whitman has been a strange character since the beginning. Lesley believes that he's on the count's side. I think not though. He might not even inform the others that Gwyneth has told Lesley

Eni | 2349 comments i just finished book 2. And i have to say.. about all the flaws that were pointed here, it doesn't really get better.

There's plenty of questions still unanswered (some that came up on book 1), character development still isn't there (i still get annoyed with Gwyneth and still can't decide what on earth Gideon is supposed to be).

I agree with Sophie when she says that the books should have been edited in 1 book. I get the feeling that parts of the story are being stretched for no reason, and some parts are being rushed.

I'm not giving up on the series though. I really want to know the end of the story >_< stupid curiosity >_<

Totally agree with this. I flew through all three hoping to find answers, and we did get a few, but not enough in my opinion.

I'm in agreement with those above who said great concept, poorly done (sadly). (And I'm not convinced it was the translation as I consider major plot points to not have been fleshed out well enough.)

This thought occured to me, but when I read that those reading in English had similar opinion (and I was reading in Polish) that means that it is not the matter of translation. If in two totally different languages this book is at best mediocare in delivery, I rather tend to claim it is poorly written ;)

Glad what I've said makes some sense! There have been other books that I feel could be improved with some dramatic (some would probably say harsh) editing - unfortunately my brain isn't coming up with them atm...

I think reading it with lower expectations and less analysis might help - they are quick and easy to read.

34. At first, Gideon is portrayed as a self-righteous know it all with a cocky attitude. How do you think his character has developed so far? Do you think it's all for show, or do you think that's just who he is?

I think he's become slightly nicer. Not completely, but it's better. I think he's been through a lot, and his attitude is just the result of that.

35. Gwyneth's great-great-grandmother will only negotiate with Gwyneth and no one else. Why will she only speak to Gwyneth, and how does she know?
As Gideon and Mr. George said, someone's been telling people before they arrived.

36. Oh no! It seems this was a trap as Gideon thought! Were you expecting Paul and Lucy to be there with Lady Tilney? Why do they want Gwyneth and Gideon to stay?
I was expecting anyone else, even the Count himself, but definitely not Paul and Lucy. I think they are the only ones that see things differently and maybe they want to tell Gideon and Gwyneth while they're still young because they might still be persuaded.

37. Gideon kisses Gwyneth inside of the church confessional. Were you expecting him to develop feelings for Gwyneth so quickly? Do you think he knows they've already kissed in the past?
I've mentioned before, I think he knows. Although, he hasn't said anything outright. And it seems that others think it's bad for the Montrose girls and the De Villiers boys to mix.

38. From what I gather it seems that Gwyneth is the daughter of Lucy and Paul! Did you ever suspect that Grace was hiding such a big secret as this? What do you expect will be Gwyneth's reaction when/if she finds out?
That thought also occurred to me. Maybe that is the case. Gwyneth will probably be upset that she was lied to.

39. Now that we know Gwyneth is the daughter of Lucy and Paul, are you surprised that Gwyneth and Gideon have developed feelings for each other? Or do you think it was meant to be?
I think it was meant to be, but they're also related. This is all quite strange for me.

I agree totally. This book felt more like an introduction and definitely not a full book. The story itself is intriguing, but the book struggles in execution. I hadn't realized when I'd first begun that it was a translation, and honestly, it translates into the typical YA voice that I'm used to in this genre. It's a quick and easy read with a lot of potential. I will be reading the others because I do want to know what happens.

This would be a tough decision - to have your child part of this large scary mission or to protect your child from ever having to experience the unknown. I think I would have done the same thing.

22. What do you think the mission is?
To collect all the blood which is needed for something bigger. (view spoiler)

24. We’ve learned more of why Lucy stole the chronography and with Paul, Falk de Villiers brother. They went to the past forever, what time period do you think they went to keep safe? Also, why would Grace help them?
I think the 18th century. I think Grace was trying to protect them.

25. We learned some of the reasons why Grace is adamant about Gywneth Count Saint-Germain. He is can read thoughts and control their will. Do you think this is true? After Gywneth met the count, do you think he is still able to read minds?
I'm not sure he's the one with the ability to read minds but he has some sort of ability.

26. Do you think it’s right for Gideon to travel back in time and tell the Guardians companies to invest in like Apple?
No.

27. Gywneth was asked by the count if she had any special abilities. She didn’t think so. Do you think some of the other Circle of the Blood has special abilities? Is it possible Gideon can read thoughts too? Do you think Gywneth hasn’t discovered hers yet?
I do believe that Gideon might be a mind reader based on things he's said and done. Gwyneth's ability should be the seeing and communicating with ghosts but I don't think she sees that as a special ability.

She at least now has something to show Lesley when she returns. I think I would much rather have someone listening to my thoughts than to be attacked from feet away - I do wonder how far his abilities stretch.

29.The were ambushed! How? Who could be powerful enough? Or interested in their failure? The count? The creepy guy that looks like a vampire?
I don't think it's the count because he needs them to collect all the blood. (view spoiler)

30. Gywneth runs to Gideon help and ends up saving his life. She also wounds or maybe kills one of the assailants. Not bad for a girl without training. I'm wondering how did that action will affect her in the future?
I'm sure once she gets over the emotional trauma of it she'll be okay. There could be some repercussions depending on who sent the men if they are looking for revenge.

31.Gideon seemed really concerned with her. Maybe the kiss she saw in her last travelling isn't that accidental?
I just think he is wanting to protect her, knowing that she hasn't been trained for these missions.

32.It seems that someone is giving them away. But how can that be since they only discovered she was the Ruby two days ago?
There is most likely trackers watching them with a mole - it's a matter of who the mole is.

34. At first, Gideon is portrayed as a self-righteous know it all with a cocky attitude. How do you think his character has developed so far? Do you think it's all for show, or do you think that's just who he is?
I'm not entirely sure I trust Gideon. I think he is what he is.

35. Gwyneth's great-great-grandmother will only negotiate with Gwyneth and no one else. Why will she only speak to Gwyneth, and how does she know?
I think it's a matter of trust, especially since it seems she may have been visited by Lucy and Paul.

36. Oh no! It seems this was a trap as Gideon thought! Were you expecting Paul and Lucy to be there with Lady Tilney? Why do they want Gwyneth and Gideon to stay?
I think they want to talk to them - there is definitely something sinister going on.

37. Gideon kisses Gwyneth inside of the church confessional. Were you expecting him to develop feelings for Gwyneth so quickly? Do you think he knows they've already kissed in the past?
Gideon has a lot of history and a lot of knowledge so it's possible.

38. From what I gather it seems that Gwyneth is the daughter of Lucy and Paul! Did you ever suspect that Grace was hiding such a big secret as this? What do you expect will be Gwyneth's reaction when/if she finds out?
I was thinking this and it makes sense if Grace was hiding them for a few months. I think Gwyneth is going to be really surprised.

39. Now that we know Gwyneth is the daughter of Lucy and Paul, are you surprised that Gwyneth and Gideon have developed feelings for each other? Or do you think it was meant to be?
I think it was meant to be.

I was on the fence about my rating and I ended up giving it 3 stars. There were times where I was a little confused and I wish I knew the back of the book had a list of the characters because that could have helped with all the similar names.

I'm interested in the story and do want to see how it all ends so I'll most likely finish the trilogy.

If I were Grace I think I would have hid it because just like her I would want to protect my daughter but also want her to live a normal life. Yes on both accounts. She must have called the midwife before she met Gwyneth and I think she isn't telling the whole truth about the midwife.

29.The were ambushed! How? Who could be powerful enough? Or interested in their failure? The count? The creepy guy that looks like a vampire?
I think that there might have been a plan for this before they got there. Who know it could have been Gwyneth herself traveling back in the past and trying to stop what was about to come.

30. Gywneth runs to Gideon help and ends up saving his life. She also wounds or maybe kills one of the assailants. Not bad for a girl without training. I'm wondering how did that action will affect her in the future?
I was wondering that too because whatever you do in the past you effect the future but I don't think she did much damage.

31.Gideon seemed really concerned with her. Maybe the kiss she saw in her last travelling isn't that accidental?
I was thinking the same thing.

32.It seems that someone is giving them away. But how can that be since they only discovered she was the Ruby two days ago?
I don't know but somebody is doing it and I was wondering if anyone in the group is doing it since its a group that has time travelers in them.

33.Am I the only one thinking is really strange that Mr. Whitman was the one discovering them on the bathroom. And how would he know about the file in the first place? What is happening here?
Not a surprise at all since Gwyneth and Lesley saw his ring and knew that he was part of the Guardians somehow.

Chapter 14 - End

34. At first, Gideon is portrayed as a self-righteous know it all with a cocky attitude. How do you think his character has developed so far? Do you think it's all for show, or do you think that's just who he is?

I think that is who he is but I think some of it may be for show.

35. Gwyneth's great-great-grandmother will only negotiate with Gwyneth and no one else. Why will she only speak to Gwyneth, and how does she know?
I think she only trusts Gwyneth and she might know because of Lucy.

36. Oh no! It seems this was a trap as Gideon thought! Were you expecting Paul and Lucy to be there with Lady Tilney? Why do they want Gwyneth and Gideon to stay?
I think they want to save them from something or they want to explain the real truth about the Guardian because something strange is going on and I'd like to know what it is too.

37. Gideon kisses Gwyneth inside of the church confessional. Were you expecting him to develop feelings for Gwyneth so quickly? Do you think he knows they've already kissed in the past?
I did expect it and I think he knew that it happened before.

38. From what I gather it seems that Gwyneth is the daughter of Lucy and Paul! Did you ever suspect that Grace was hiding such a big secret as this? What do you expect will be Gwyneth's reaction when/if she finds out?
I was thinking that she knew where they were and that was her big secret that she was keeping. Besides being surprised I think she will welcome them but not to soon.

39. Now that we know Gwyneth is the daughter of Lucy and Paul, are you surprised that Gwyneth and Gideon have developed feelings for each other? Or do you think it was meant to be?
No I guess they were meant to be together.

I gave this book 4* and I'm going to continue with the other books in this series because I'm curious as to how it all comes together and how they will end this series.

Deedee | 626 comments I'm reading Sapphire Blue now -- it begins 5 minutes after the conclusion of Ruby Red. So far (mild spoiler) (view spoiler) These are quick reads and I'm thinking I'll finish the trilogy by the end of the month.

Karla Is it too late to jump in on this?

Heather Gosch | 3 comments I continued on with Sapphire Blue and Emerald Green. I just couldn't not know how it all ended. They are quick reads and I think I had them all done in a week. I really enjoyed them.

I just received a notice from my library that both Sapphire Blue and Emerald Green have come in. I can't wait to pick them up!

Karla Comments and Questions
Prologue - Chapter 2

1. Theories on the prologue? Who is Grace? (there seem to be a lot of "G" names in the family!)
Grace might be Gwyneth's mom. I think the couple talking were Lucy and the man Great-Aunt Maddy referred to.

2. So Leslie is Gwyneth's friend, Charlotte is her cousin, James is the ghost and Caroline and Nick are her siblings. Thoughts on the characters so far?
Leslie sounds fun. I hope she doesn't betray Gwyneth in anyway (telling others about the family secret). I don't like Charlotte, she's too smug. There hasn't been enough mention of Caroline or Nick to form an opinion about them. I'm on the fence about James.

3.What do you think is with the man in black outside their house? Why is no-one concerned about him?
I think he might be a Guardian.

4. Do you like the writing style / the humor and the little newspaper clippings or book excerpts before each chapter? I like the writing. The things between the chapters add to the mystery of the story.

5.How annoying that Gwyneth hasn't worked out her symptoms! I wonder why her family haven't realized she has the gene? Everyone expect it to be Charlotte who has the gene, so it makes sense that Gwyneth wouldn't realize what is happening to her.
