Well, i read this book about 30 years ago so the details are a little fuzzy. It's in SciFi genre and the protagonist finds that the old/older leaders of a planet (i think) are using the bodies of young peoples for body transplant in order to live forever. What was astonishing, was that this young people were eager to donate their bodies to the leaders. Also i think that the leaders were hidden and in the end the protagonist escaped crossing a ocean or a sea.
