I'm guessing that if I'm already part way through a book it is okay to count the pages I read from 12.01am on Friday onwards? My kindle gives page numbers which i..."
Oh really? That's brilliant Rita! Much easier than calculating! I always read "real" books for the read-a-thon as it's easier to count;)

I find kindle gives page numbers for many books but not all. It 's not hard to calculate the percentage to get numbers of pages though.

That is a very cool idea Deb. I think I might try that too!
I've assembled a good collection of hefty tomes, to ensure I have plenty of reading material on hand. Hahaha, this includes Bendigo Library's sole copy of The Thorn Birds by Colleen McCullough
, voted the number 1 classic beach read on the ABC's Jennifer Byrne's Book Club yesterday. If you recall, I had already included it in my Summer Reading Challenge, as I have expressed a desire to re-visit some of the Aussie and international classics of my teens and young adult years. Sweet :-)
:) Thanks Mary, cheat when you can and feel no guilt!MaryG2E - The Thorn Birds is such a classic... I am afraid it absolutely traumatised me, but I am a minority.
Have you ever read Call Me When The Cross Turns Over
This is an Australian one I adore but not many people seem to know it.

Awesome Mary! And we only have a little over 24 hours before we start this read-a-thon!!
I hope everyone is being as organised as you are:)

I am not sure how much Internet access I will have Friday night as we are staying in the city after my work Christmas party lunch followed by dinner with friends. I will be reading later in the evening to unwind - or I may just sit on the balcony with hubby and sip tea and chat with hubby and read Saturday and Sunday :)so LONG story short - may not post pages read until Saturday night :)
That's fine Sally:) As long as you enjoy your work Christmas party lunch and the dinner with friends...AND the balcony with hubby as well!
first weekend of the month means I have to read the Pharmacy stuff that turns up, but I'm going to count those pages too....
Marianne wrote: "first weekend of the month means I have to read the Pharmacy stuff that turns up, but I'm going to count those pages too...."Probably not nearly as exciting as your books Marianne!

indeed, but they're still pages read, so.....
I can't go for another hour - you're a tease :)Maybe I should start east coast time instead of Territory time :)
Not sure how I'll go....working today, all day tomorrow and celebrating Dad's 70th on Sunday but I've managed to make a start so that's the main thing.

I haven't done any reading yet, but I just sat down with a cuppa and will start reading Hello from the Gillespies by Monica McInerney
I'll post an update on my pages later tonight - I'm hoping to finish my current book this afternoon :)
Just thirty pages at lunch time but then I never get to read on Fridays. A silly thing called work gets in the way:)

Dear Deborah, I've not heard of this book before, although I know the name D'Arcy Niland well and have read [book:The Shiralee many moons ago. I'll have to keep an eye out for this one - thanks for the recommendation.
For me today so far is 125 pages of Christmas Magic. It's sweet and I will be reading more tonight. How's everyone going with the read-a-thon, having fun?!

I also plan to cheat... just a smidgeon... I have piled up the books that will be fast reads. You know the ones; those books that you save between serious heavy reads, the light fluffy reading that you really enjoy but normally you space them out.
So for this weekend I have an excuse to read them all at once :)
I have five books by Author E. C. Tubb,
because I want to read all of his Dumarest series they are classic sci-fi and reasonably short books.
I have four books by Maya Banks, who is my new favourite guilty-pleasure romance author.
I have Howl's Moving Castle
which I have wanted to read for years and finally got my hands on. It is a kids book so it will be a fast read and I have been saving it.
I am sure I won't get through them all, but I'll see how I go!
