1. Were you surprised by how quickly Isa, Fatime, and Thea rushed to Salten upon receiving Kate's text? Do you have any friends that you would do the same?
2. Isa is convinced Kate will never leave Tide Mill or Salten. Did you think she was correct in her assessment as the novel progressed and why did she (Kate) feel she could not leave?
3. How would you describe Ambrose? Did you feel you got to know him in the story? Do you think he was a positive or negative role model for the kids?
4. Isa's house mistress tries to encourage her to make other friends and avoid spending all her time with one small "clique." Do you feel teenagers put themselves at a disadvantage when keeping to a small group of friends?
5. On Isa's first morning back at the mill, Kate discovers a dead sheep. Who or what was responsible for the sheep's death? Why?
6. Thea made a statement that they had no choice when referring to what they did with Ambrose's body when Kate found him dead. Isa stated "Of course we had a choice!" Do you agree with Isa, why or why not? Why did the girls feel this way, and what else could they have done?
7. What were your initial impressions of Luc? Did you trust him? Were you surprised with his anger as an adult (especially when seeing Isa when they ran into each other in town as adults)? Why does he harbor such resentment toward Kate (why did he tell Isa not to trust Kate?)? Was he justified (did it make any sense to you)?
8. Did you like the book? Why or why not? Did you feel the author (Ruth Ware) intentionally misled the reader for no reason?
