What writers, artists, and titles are you reading this month? Any creators really standing out for you at the moment? Any titles you'd recommend?

I read through all of Chew while I was travelling to Japan! Recently, though, I read Space Riders, Volumen Dos: Galaxy of Brutality which was pedal to the metal insane.

That series is really fun and it has a third arc in the works

Whitney | 222 comments Uzumaki is horror. Disturbing horror. The story and art is very unique. Junji Ito's work is very love it or hate it.

message 13: by Whitney (new)

Whitney | 222 comments Lol yes, I'd say titans eating people is horrifying.

Any other horror themed mangas?"

AoT has horror elements. I would add the horror tag to it. But there is still lots of other genres it falls under.

Horror themed mangas? Here's a list of what I've read:

-Anything by Junji Ito is horror. He's one of my favorites.
-Alive Alive
-Dead Tube Series DEAD Tube ~デッドチューブ~ 1
-The Drifting Classroom Series The Drifting Classroom, Vol. 1
-Fetish フェティッシュ Fetish
-Goth Goth
-Hideout Hideout
-I am a Hero Series I Am a Hero Omnibus, Volume 1
-Ibitsu Series Ibitsu Vol. 1
-Jisatsu Circle Jisatsu Circle
-Parasyte Series (horror is one genre it falls under) Parasyte, Volume 1
-PTSD Radio Series PTSD Radio, Vol. 1
-Hell Baby Hell Baby
-Orochi Orochi: Blood
-The Ring Series Spiral
-Zashiki Onna Zashiki Onna

Totally agree. I didn't start Rachel Rising until AFTER Halloween. LOL.

Just a heads up. Uzumaki has been released in a hardcover 3 in 1 Omnibus. I'm pretty sure the individual books are out of print (in English).

SO GOOD! I wish it existed when I was a kid.

I read Monstress volume 4 and the final arc of Paper Girls :'(
Excited to start Blankets and then I can't procrastinate the end of WicDiv any longer.

No problem!! Hope you like some of those. I haven't read My Future Diary (one day, I hope), but I don't think it's horror.

message 19: by Francis (new)

Francis | 134 comments I read The Arab of the Future: A Childhood in the Middle East, 1978-1984: A Graphic Memoir, and I’m half way through I Am a Hero Omnibus, Volume 1.
I’m starting to feel anxious about the 2019 reading challenge, I have five books to go after I Am A Hero, but I’m not sure I can afford the cost of buying them all before the end of the year, and couldn’t find them in my local library, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed some of them will be in a comixology sale.

LMAO! I am SO happy you like it! Ah, I wish I could reread Junji Ito with a blank slate. Have fun!!!

My reading week:
-Gideon Falls, vol. 1 - fell flat, wont continue
-Rachel Rising, vols. 5 & 6

Ed Erwin | 336 comments Francis wrote: "I’m starting to feel anxious about the 2019 reading challenge ..."

Me, too! I still have 4,199 books to go!

message 23: by Ed (new)

Ed Erwin | 336 comments I read part one of Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? Omnibus. I've already read the original book, and I've seen the movie "Blade Runner" several times, so why would I read this? Well, because it is such an unusual adaptation. While most graphic adaptations reduce the amount of text while adding visuals, this version keeps every single word from the book, including thrilling text like "He said" or "She said".

Strangely, it actually works pretty well, at least for me. But I probably won't finish all 600 pages, because that's just too much for something I've already read before in the original format.

message 24: by Ed (new)

Ed Erwin | 336 comments With another group I just read Gladiator: The Enduring Classic That Inspired the Creators of Superman!. While it is not a "comic", it may (or may not) have inspired the superhero genre.

I thought it would be only of historical interest, but it turned out to be a thoughtful and entertaining read, though also cynical and depressing. The super powers turn out to be more of a hindrance than help to the main character due to the problems of the society in which he lives.

Lenny (lennylenlen) | 158 comments Just finished Blankets (beautiful, moving graphic novel, thanks to this group for the recommendation) and Long Lost (one of the best horror stories I've read that no one seems to appreciate).

Blankets by Craig Thompson Long Lost, Book Two by Matthew Erman

message 28: by Nancy (last edited Nov 28, 2019 05:49PM) (new)

Nancy | 174 comments Mr. and Mrs. X: Love and Marriage- Rogue & Gambit spontaneously get married & have space adventures. I love the couple, but the story was only ok.
Two Dead- Crime noir set in Arkansas after WWII, which is based on a true crime that had racial overtones.
Louisiana- A pulpy historically inaccurate story about the horrors of slavery on a plantation.
Rome West- In this alternative timeline story, what would happen if Romans landed in the US in 323 AD? The story needed more fleshing out, as there were too many leaps of logic.

Plus, I listened to Wolverine: The Lost Trail. Both seasons of this Marvel podcast were excellent!
