Hiba Yuki (creations92) | 6 comments So I've been editing some series, I'm confused about whether the "sort by title" field also needs the series in parenthesis like the Title does?

Emily | 17474 comments The sort by title should be filled in automatically. The red asterisk indicates it is a required field, but the system will populate it.

The sort-by field is exactly what it says. So anything after the first 10 characters probably doesn't matter, and I wouldn't worry about whether the series info is included or not.

Thanks, rivka. I had no idea about the 10 character thing, so this is very helpful (and possibly time-saving) to know.

That's an estimate, and a general statement that won't apply in all cases.

For example, if I have 3 books with the following titles, more than 10 characters would affect the sort order:
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious Goes to Washington (Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious #1)
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious Makes Waves (Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious #3)
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious Stays Home (Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious #2)

But the series info still wouldn't matter or need to be in the sort-by field.
