There are some things already posted in the mini-challenge folder. (Mini Planning for 2016) Mostly templates for the smaller year-long challenges that run alongside the main-page Group Reads and Category specific Challenges.
As for those, there will be an announcement of what to expect soon. Probably during the holidays when we Mods have a little time away from work/school.

Leslie, I'll be putting up a general announcement of the layout/set-up of 2016 either today or tomorrow. We just need to finalise a few things!

As for now, I'd recommend getting involved with some threads, or making your 2016 Personal thread, like Renee said. :)

message 303: by Scarlet (new)

Scarlet Hi everyone! I'm new here, just joined the group. It seems very interesting, with the challenges and everything. I love reading, and I can't commit myself to a particular genre; I'm now trying out new genres and its been amazing so far.
I plan on joining a few readathons I can and I'll definitely be participating in the group reads from January! :) Can't wait x

Hello to all newcomers! We're busily setting up for 2016, so keep your eyes open for new challenges, polls, and information. It's gonna be a great year!!!

message 314: by Angela (new)

Angela Kalnins (angieabk) | 29 comments Hi!
My name is Angie. I am an AVID reader of books--all books. I prefer horror/paranormal/sci-fi/fantasy...but have on occasion picked up a biography or two...not to mention romances, travel books, inspirational, etc.

Because of my love of reading, it was only natural that I would become an author as well. I have written a Christian Devotional book called JESUS LOVES US EVEN THOUGH. You can find it on amazon.

I am in the editing process of my second book, SPREAD YOUR WINGS AND FLY, a 6-week Bible Study Guide.

I have recently discovered that I enjoy reviewing books for others as well.

I'm looking forward to the new year and all the wonderful books we're going to read together.

message 315: by Val (new)

Val (valugalde) Hey everyone! I'm Val, I live in Buenos Aires (ugh) and I'm turning 18 this Sunday which is very very exciting. Anyways, I've loved reading ever since I was little, but I don't have a lot of time to do so, considering how busy school keeps me. However since I'm starting uni I hope I can read a bit more this year, and your challenges seem fun! I love anything except horror, and my favourite genres are crime (not too morbid though) and historical fiction.
Happy new year! x

message 316: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 1 comments Hello. I'm Michelle from WI. I have always enjoyed reading, but just this past year I have really gotten into it again. I mostly enjoy psychological thrillers but will pick up just about everything.

message 317: by Stacey (new)

Stacey (darbydashwood) Hi everyone, I'm Stacey from Philadelphia. 2016 will mark my 8th year on Goodreads. I love reading, and will read just about anything! I'm thrilled to have discovered this group---already getting started on Winter BINGO and the Genre Challenge.

Happy new year and happy reading :) xx

Kristina Mastrullo | 3 comments Hi, my name is Kristina. I love biographies and most non-fiction but of course will delve into fiction. I would love to tackle the A Song of Fore & Ice series eventually, perhaps this is the year!

Looking forward to participating in the group!

message 323: by Emma (new)

Emma (iemcanadian) | 1 comments Hi everyone, my name is Emma! I'm from Vancouver, Canada and I'm a full-time university student, majoring in psychology. This semester I want to read more for pleasure in addition to doing my course readings, and this group looks like a lot of fun! I read a lot of comic books and graphic novels, and I love things that are a bit bleak and/or dystopian. I'm hoping to broaden my spectrum a bit and find new reads, and your challenges look awesome! :)

Jenn (jenn_calaelen) | 40 comments Hi! I'm Jenn.

I'm from Lancaster, UK. I mostly read science fiction, fantasy, historical fiction, and history; but also anything that seems interesting.
I was motivated to look for groups to join as last year I took part in an online readathon, and probably spent about the same amount of time as usual but spent a lot of the time discussing reading with people and it was a lot of fun.

message 330: by Grace (new)

Grace (gracekchar) Hi, I'm Grace!
I'm from the UK and I mostly read sci-fi, fantasy, historical or stuff that catches my eye.

message 332: by Ches (new)

Ches | 2 comments Hello to everyone. I have loved reading for as long as I can remember and could often be found with my head in a book when I was young. I enjoy all sorts of books and just wish there were more hours in a day as being a working mother to six and grandmother to two doesn't leave me as much time spare as I would like. I also enjoy crocheting, cross stitching, cooking and listening to music.

Take your time, Vicky. There is a lot going on here but you choose what you're interests in. Start with the How To Use This Group thread. Take a peek at our Group Reads. Then just browse around. There's no rush and plenty of friendly people. So glad you're here.

You, too, Lee. Welcome! ;)

message 337: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Dufresne | 2 comments Hi, I'm Amanda. I used to read voraciously but over the last few years I have stopped reading completely for a number of reasons. I miss being able to slip in and out of different worlds so I am challenging myself to read at least 52 books in 2016 to get back in the habit. I liked the look of the various challenges in this group and will definitely benefit from the motivation reading alongside others gives me. I love reading fiction, especially sci-fi and fantasy. Also mysteries, thrillers and anything that keeps me on my toes. I'm keen to read outside of my comfort zone and try out genres that I wouldn't usually consider.

message 338: by Caecilia (new)

Caecilia Saori -- Hello,

I'm happy to have found this group.
My fav. books contain "Gone Girl" but also "1984".
I enjoy reading and discussing books within a group of avid readers and am looking forward to the group discussions.

Welcome, Ladies!

Amanda,
I was in exactly your place three years ago. The GoodReads site really helped. It's great to have a place to get ideas and talk about books.

message 340: by Rylie (new)

Rylie | 5 comments Hi all!

My name's Rylie, and I'm really glad I found your group. :)
Favorite types of books include romance of most kinds (PR, historical, some contemporary,) just about all YA, especially distopian, fantasy, supernatural, just about anything with time travel in it, I go in and out of enjoying hard SF. A new genre I've been enjoying is fairy tale retellings of any kind. It's hard to narrow it down to favorites; I love so many. :)
I'm glad you have different genres and world lit challenges. I think it'll help me to read outside of what I am usually interested in. I can read extremely quickly, so reading a lot isn't going to be what challenges me. It's reading books that I don't think I'll enjoy, but then I usually do end up liking in the end. That's why I want to join challenges.
I'm almost a month in to the year, but that won't keep me down. :D
Can't wait to meet and connect! :)

message 341: by Jill (new)

Jill Motley | 7 comments Hi!
I'm new to this group.

I like reading various genres but I'm trying to challenge myself this year by reading some classics, as well as up my reading time generally.

I've set myself a target of 25 books for the year, not many to some but last year I read 14, so its a leap for me. I'm on book 6 so far.

I've joined the alphabet soup mini challenge and I might join in the 'Alternate read' in March for March as its a classic.

Looking forward to new reads....

CaptKirk42 Classic Whovian (klandersen) | 455 comments Welcome Jill.
I am the same way about my number of books to read in a year and how much is actually read. This year I lowered my number to 15 because I anticipated not having much time to devote to my concentrated serious reading. I guess I average about 20-25 books a year normally.

message 343: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 19 comments Hello Everyone, My name is Michelle and I just joined your group today. I am a wife, mother of 3 beautiful children - trust me, I'm not the least bit biased ; ) - and an avid reader. Typically I read nonfiction or suspense novels. I am looking forward to broadening my horizons this year by completing the Pop Sugar Reading Challenge.

message 344: by Jennifer (last edited Mar 19, 2016 09:00PM) (new)

Jennifer | 3 comments Hi. My name is Gillian. I live in the United States.

I will read just about anything as long as it is interesting and holds my attention. If I had to pick a favorite book it would probably be the entire Harry Potter series.

message 345: by Leila (new)

Leila | 3 comments Hi everyone, my name is Leila. I live in North East England on the coast. I just joined your group yesterday. I am a widow in my later years with three adult sons, eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. I live alone apart from my three beautiful female cats - I read a lot and my favourite genres are historical fiction and fantasy but I enjoy many other kinds of books too. I also like to write as a hobby. My challenge is to write 750 words plus daily. My reading challenge this year is to complete 100 books.

message 347: by Piljoo (new)

Piljoo Moon | 1 comments Hello, everyone! My name is PJ. I'm originally from South Korea, currently living in New Jersey. I love reading books, mostly non-fiction, science-related ones. following is my favorites:
'The future of everything'
'Probably approximately correct'
'Fermat's enigma'
'Thinking fast and slow'
'Social physics'
etc.

and recently I have visited Caltech and got 'Six easy pieces' by Richard Feynman from its bookstore. It was a fun read as well to peek at his perspective on basic physic concepts differently and uniquely.

I have been reading books like a hermit:) so I always wanted to have partners whom I can share any thoughts or ideas gleaned from the books I read. Boom! I found Goodreads and this group! I'm looking forward to getting actively involved in challenges and activities!

message 348: by Saphia210 (new)

Saphia210 | 10 comments Hey everyone!! My name is actually Sophia, and I live in NY! I love reading most types of books, as long as they stay with me! I especially love classics (I tend to sway towards darker and more emotional books), friendship and family stories, and also books about overcoming hardships!
On the other hand, I also love very interesting scientific and historical books!
Some of my fave books:
-A Tree Grows in Brooklyn
-Harry Potter series (yes, I know its not one book)
-Catcher in the Rye
-The Kite Runner
-Jane Eyre
-1984
-Kira Kira
Although I'm a teenager, I tend to not like YA books as much as more mature books (ex. I would definitely rather read any of the listed above rather than Percy Jackson or the Divergent series).
I'm hoping to find more heart-wrenchingly devastating books and more "Wow, I never knew that!" books this year. Also, I want to read more poetry since I love reading and writing poetry.
Basically I will read any absorbing and passionate books.
For now, I'm just trying to remember all the books I've read and review them...quite a challenge in itself! ;)
