Hello all -- My name is Britta and, like others, this is my first group on Goodreads. I'm a little shy, but this seems like a nice, fun place. I'm 27 and am an American living in Paris, France, so finding books in English is a little bit of a challenge (recently misplaced my Kindle - tragedy!).
My goal for the year is 25 books, but it looks like I'll surpass that. The best books I've read so far this year have been books 1 and 2 of Hilary Mantel's Thomas Cromwell series, Wolf Hall and Bring Up the Bodies. (And if you haven't yet, check out the BBC adaptation -- stunning work).
Aside from Mantel's series, my two other favorite books that I've read this year have been Misery by Stephen King (I'm a big horror fan) and Endgame: Bobby Fischer's Remarkable Rise and Fall - from America's Brightest Prodigy to the Edge of Madness (I'm also a big fan of biographies).
I'm a nonfiction author and am working on a biography, although it seems like it will be finished "later" rather than "sooner". My favorite book of all time is Seven Pillars of Wisdom: A Triumph by T.E. Lawrence.
Very excited for this group and especially for the mini-challenges and bingo games! Thank you!

I'm Jenny and I read just about anything. I have a bad habit of getting distracted by pretty covers haha. I enjoy clasic lituture and I hope to get through at least a few of Jane Austen this year, but I have decided to make an index card box full of all the book titles I own but have not read (a huge list) and decide what to read that way haha. I have read 93 books out of 100 for this year so far. Looking forward to next month for the group reads- I think I'll use the rest of this month to clean up the books I've started.
Hi I'm Lilly from Norway. I love reading, lately most of my reads have been dystopian novels. I am super exited to get started in this group :)
Hi!My name's Marina, I'm 33, from Italy. I'm a professional technical translator. I studied languages at University and this allows me to read in different languages, which I think is great, I love reading in the original language.
I love various genres: literary fiction, mystery, crime, psychology non-fiction, and so on. I will read almost anything apart from paranormal and things like that, but I'm prepared to try everything at least once.
I'm already a member of other great challenge groups here on GR, but I decided to join one more, since I love challenges and I love chatting about books with other like-minded bookworms.
My goal for this year is 110 books, but GR says I'm a bit behind schedule as I have "only" read 60 so far. Next year I will start my own thread with books read, not this year, though, since it's already almost over.
Haha, Renee, I'm the one who always sees the glass half empty, but yes you are right, we DO have 5 more months of reading in 2015!
Welcome Marina. Not only do we have the same goal for the year but I too am sitting at 60 books read! Best of luck in reaching your goal, there is still time to do it.
Hi! I'm Julia from Finland. I like reading but haven't been doing it a lot lately. I thought I'd join a group here in order to get a little more reading done. :)
Hi I'm Sam F. I'm interested in the idea of a monthly book challenge to read something new and discover new authors. I'm looking forward to starting in Sept!
Hello, I am Maureen from Singapore. I love the fantastic challenges you have here but I think I am a little too late to join in?
Hello my name is BaneenI am merely a teenager who loves to read
I read books of all genres depending on my mood
Hello All, my name is Lyn and I am new to the group. I know it is rather late to be joining a 2015 challenge group, but I imagine you all will be here in 2016. Let me just say.....I LOVE book challenges. Some say I am obsessed with them. So I hope to get heavily involved in the future. On the personal side, I live in the US in California, am retired from office work, have two adult sons, and love books. I have been told I will read anything with words. Currently I am working on two book blogs and read and review.
Welcome to the group, Lyn! You've joined at just the right time to get a feel for the group and our challenges before 2016 begins. You're correct - we will be here in 2016! Looking forward to seeing you on the threads and seeing what challenges you are interested in.
Hi! I'm Colleen from Minnesota, USA and have been a GR member since 2012. I love reading, all kinds of books, and love the GR community. Looking forward to participating in this group. I'm somewhat active in a few others as well. Looking fun!
Hello! My name is Rachael. I live near Seatlle in Washinton. I only recently joined goodreads. I have done the 50 book challenge before; looking forward to trying it again.
Hi! I'm Joel. I used to read all the time as a child, but that dropped off as I got older, and as life got busier. Now, at the ripe old age of 35, I've decided to get back into it! I've set myself the challenge of reading 52 books in 52 weeks. The last book I read was 'A Game of Thrones', which I enjoyed, but my usual favourite authors are Hunter S Thompson, Jack Kerouac and Irvine Welsh. I'm hoping to read a lot of classic books and 'must reads' that I missed over the years, as well as reading some different genres that I don't normally get into. Looking forward to discussing everything with you!
Welcome to the group, Joel! It sounds like you have a lot of fun ahead of you as you catch up on your must read list.
I just wanted to formally say hi and introduce myself as a new member. I'm Lisa Ann and recently noticed this group has a lot of activity going on with planning for 2016, so it seems that I picked a great time to join. I tend to get overwhelmed with annual challenges that have a lot of specific rules but love the idea of mini challenges. Otherwise, I enjoy reading a variety of genres, especially fiction, and love to join in on discussions with other enthusiatic readers as often as my schedule allows.
Welcome to the group, Lisa Ann! There is a lot of work going on right now to see how the group will be shaped next year but you can bet there will be lots of fun and interesting challenges. Looking forward to seeing you on the threads.
Hello! I'm Sam, I live in Devon in the UK. Very excited to have discovered GR yesterday, it really is what I have been looking for for a long time! I read a fairly wide range of genres, and am pleased to have beaten my target of 25 books this year as am currently on my 27th. Looking forward to getting involved and seeing what great books 2016 brings...
Hello everyone. I'm joining you for A Christmas Carol this month and hopefully many more good reads in the future.
I'm Julie. I am a reading addict who is not looking for any steps to recovery from my addiction. Except maybe for when I read something so terrible that it makes me wonder if they will ever be able refund my time. Well, that and recovery from favorite character deaths.
Hello, my name is Stephanie, I saw this group and it sounded interesting and I'm looking forward to participating. I like the focus for each month and a different genre. Reading has always been a favorite past time for me and I'm gently encouraging my children to love reading.
Welcome, Julie and Stephanie! You're just in time to be in on the planning for 2016. Take your time and explore, there's a lot going on. Glad to have you aboard!
Hello everyone! My name is Leslie and I'm living in Cary, NC. I.consider myself to be an avid reader and typically read very much along the lines of your challenges. It's so close to the end of the year, I'll start up with you in January. I typically read History, Biography, Autobiography, Science and Nature, Sports, World Religions but especially Christianity, Spirituality, Cooking, Environmental Concerns, Classics, and Writers from other countries. I have been trying to read classics from my country as well as those of other countries
I try to read a mix of Nonfiction and Fiction..
Looking forward to reading along with you.
I think you'll fit right in here, Leslie. While you wait for the start of the new year, take a look around, take a peek at the archives for an idea of what to expect, and start your own personal goal thread if you want a place to keep track of your activities. Nothing is mandatory. Except encouraging other members and having a nice time.
