Marla Harris | 17 comments Hi, my name is Marla and I am currently living in Colorado. I have been reading as long as I can remember. My mom would take me to the library and I would get a stack of books and devour them. My favorite series growing up would have to be The Chronicles of Narnia, which I shared with my boys, one of which devealoped the same healthy appetite for reading that I have as a result of that.

I read a variety of genres. Currently, I am finishing up Insurgent and might move on to Winter of the Worlds by Ken Follet. Looking forward to hearing more about what other are reading. There are so many books that never make the Best Sellers list that are worthy of our time

Laronza Wiley-moore (laronzawiley-moore) | 240 comments Hi..I'm Ronza. My goal for this year is 500 books. I did 407 last year so wish me luck. I love to read and in going through a horror phase fight now. I'm from Colorado.

Welcome, Ronza! That's an incredible goal. :)

message 207: by Nikki (new)

Nikki (rosettafaery) | 3 comments Hi - I'm Nikki.
I joined Goodreads after deciding I wanted to set myself a challenge of reading more books and from a variety of different genres.
I used to always stick to 'chick lit'. The more colourful the book cover the more I was drawn to it. But after finding that a lot of these were very predictable and starting to 'bore' me I decided to try something new.
I'm aiming to read a book a month this year. I'm so far on target so want to see if I can maybe up it!
I've read a memoir, 2 chick lit books and a Stephen King novel. I'm currently dipping between Stephen King's The Shining and a Katie Fforde book to balance me out and so I don't get too scared!

message 208: by Kassandra (new)

Kassandra | -1 comments Welcome Nikki! You will definitely find some interesting reads here on GoodReads. We have a variety of monthly reads as well - those should help you stretch your wings.

message 209: by Marla (new)

Marla Harris | 17 comments Welcome Nikki,
I too joined because I wanted to challange myself to read more. I really was in a slump for some reason last year. I read the Shining many years ago and loved it.. can you say redrum :) I know you will find some new and different books to read from this site. I know I have.

message 210: by Marla (new)

Marla Harris | 17 comments Holy Cow, Ronza, I can't even wrap my head around 407 books in a year let alone 500. You go girl!

message 211: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Hi, I'm Amanda from Missouri and I love all kinds of books. Long ones, short ones, fiction, non-fiction... I read it all (although lately I've been preferring mystery/thriller and historical fiction)! I'm trying to get back on track with slowly whittling down my tbr list (as it quickly grows and grows) and the challenges here seem like a great way to do that! I always have a hard time choosing my next book to read, so this seems like a great way to help narrow down the list each month. :)

message 214: by Kim (new)

Kim Stone (kim_stone) | 1 comments Hi all!

I'm Kim living in the weather confused state of Colorado. I spend most of my time reading or listening to books while exercising my racing whippet, knitting, and looking after the daily tasks of life. I have another challenge this year of not purchasing clothing except for jeans. If I want something I must make it. There's a lot of sewing going on here.

I mostly read/listen to sci-fi, fantasy, thrillers, etc. Hoping this challenge will broaden my horizons a little.

message 216: by Mary (new)

Mary | 1 comments Hi,
I'm Mary, living in New Jersey. I'm from Boston and have lived a variety of places in-between then and now. Lifelong reader, my interests change often. Mostly fiction - some favorites and guaranteed fall backs are John Steinbeck, Tom Robbins & John Irving.
I already set my reading challenge number to 15 this year on Goodreads.
I always have a pile of books on my nightstand.

Drew (bookaddict1986) | 19 comments Thanks Kassandra! I am interested already in all the books that I'm seeing on the other threads. Looks like I'm going to be keeping myself busy. Is it ok if I add you as a friend on here? I just have added people from my Facebook page and not a lot of them are vivacious readers.

message 226: by Cindy (new)

Cindy | 384 comments I have the same problem as Andrew, nobody I know reads. That is why I came to goodreads in January. My to read pile grew very quickly. I don't have a problem with not finding any books to read. Hope you have fun Andrew and Stella

Kassandra | -1 comments @Andrew - absolutely, send me an invite! I'm glad you're already finding some interesting reads.

Welcome to the group Stella! Harry Potter is also my favourite series.

@Cindy - a big TBR pile seems to be a problem for a lot of our members. There are just too many good books to read!

message 228: by Lilly (new)

Lilly (lillyc3) | 2 comments Hello! I am from the US and I love reading. I guess I am a bit younger than most here, but I guess everything works. I want to set new challenges for myself, especially with non-fiction. I guess that is my goal here is to get motivated to read non-fiction.

message 229: by megan (new)

message 236: by Jean San (new)

Jean San (anonymousix) | 4 comments Hello, my name is Jean. I'm 15 from Malaysia. I grew up with Enid Blyton's books and The Chronicles of Narnia. My favourite genres are crime, mystery, history, and non-fiction, but I started taking up classics recently because, well, the books are much cheaper and easier to get.

I don't have a favourite book because I don't think I have read enough to judge.

message 237: by Renee, Mistress of the Mini-Challenge (new)

Renee M | 4789 comments Mod
Welcome, Jean from Malaysia!
Feel free to explore around our homepage; there's lots to do if you choose. Plenty of challenges and group reads. A place for keeping track of your personal goals. Or maybe you want to lurk in on a few threads before jumping in. That's okay. too. Everyone here is really friendly so don't hesitate to ask any questions you may have. :)

message 238: by rose (new)

rose | 1 comments Hey there, I'm Rose!

I've only just gotten active on goodreads, mainly because I was searching for a way to organize the books I've read and look for interesting new books that are relevant to my interest.

About myself: I'm starting my last year in highschool, and I'm currently enrolled in a digital arts program, which tells you about everything you need to know about my hobbies. I'll read just about anything, but I have a soft spot for biographies, urban fantasy, and soft sci-fi.

I'm hoping to broaden my horizons and get an appreciation for other types of novels here, as well as participate in some group reads, which seem pretty rad. :)

message 241: by Susan (new)

Susan Budd (susanbudd) | 42 comments Hi everyone! I'm Sue. I just joined Goodreads. I'm a lifelong omnivorous reader. At the moment I'm fascinated by Japanese literature, but in general I read widely in world literature and philosophy.

message 242: by Rogan (new)

Rogan (keiratatec) | 8 comments Hello, I am Keira! I am a teenager and a self-proclaimed bookworm. My friends just call me weird. Or nerdy. Or both. But I love them anyway...
I have a hard time picking favourite books but I love Harry Potter (obviously) and pretty much anything by Eva Ibbotson. Also, I struggle with classics (find the characters annoying OR I find them hard to get into- the longer ones, anyway). I just recently discovered the joys of free audiobook versions of books in the public domain and my life is saved :)

message 243: by Kassandra (new)

Kassandra | -1 comments Welcome to the group, Sue and Keira!

message 245: by Amee (new)

Amee (tehameh) Hello, my name is Amee. I love books of pretty much any flavor, right now I'm going through a bit of a sci-fi bender. Favorites (books and authors) would include Harry Potter, J.D. Robb, MaryJanice Davidson, Jim Butcher, Patricia Briggs, Ender's Game, Piers Anthony, and probably tons of others.

I'm excited about the idea of reading challenges, and look forward to having lots of lovely book discussions with like-minded readers!

Hello New Members! Welcome!
Lots of genres are loved here. Join whatever your interests take you to and feel free to ask questions. Everyone is really nice. :)

message 247: by Amanda (new)

Amanda K Hi, my name is Amanda, I'm from Sweden and I like reading pretty much anything, but I do want to get better at reading a bit more non-fiction, so I am very excited about the reading challenges. My favorite book right now is probably "How to build a girl" by Caitlyn Moran, but I also love "The land of stories" by Chris Colfer. I would like to get as much as possible out of this group, so I will really try to be part of discussions and such. So yeah, that's a bit about me, hope to get to know some people with the same interests as myself.
Have a great day!

message 248: by Sunniva (new)

Sunniva | 2 comments Hi,
This is one of the first groups I join on goodreads, I really hope it helps me to focus on more "private" reading. I'm an English and German teacher from Germany, so reading is a part of my job. Over the past two years I've noticed that 80% of the books I read are books I could maybe read with my students one day (a lot of German classics and English contemporary fiction), while my private to-be-read-pile grows and grows... ;)So, more private reading and variety is my goal for 2015
I can't really decide on a favorite genre. I'm not too much into romance and "funny books" of the Bridget Jones type but apart from that I actually enjoy reading everything.

Renee M | 4789 comments Mod
Welcome, Amanda and Sunniva! I hope you find what you're looking for here. There are lots of fun things to choose. Five Group Reads, lots of side challenges (we call them mini-challenges), a group-wide Points Challenge, plenty of discussion threads, etc. jump in where you feel comfortable. You can do as little or as much as you like. Glad to have you along. :)

message 250: by Macklin (new)

Macklin Hi I am AVeryHungryBookReader. My 2015 challenge is 100 books and I am 5 books behind!! I keep on reading picture books to boost my numbers. I joined Goodreads a couple of years ago, but haven't joined any groups yet. I have joined this one to meet new readers, discuss books, get some help on my challenge, and I can't wait to meet you all.
