Welcome, Kariane. Glad you could join us. We have lots of fun challenges to get you reading more. Feel free to join any of them! Happy reading.

I have been pretty sick the last few years so I’ve gone from being a prolific reader to a voracious one —Thank Goodness for Kindle Unlimited, Scribd, and my local library. I read several genres but my favorite is psych suspense, followed by legal/ police procedurals and domestic drama. I read a lot of non-fiction as well and have become more interested in Kids books as my granddaughter is beginning to develop her reading skills.
If I had to name a favorite book it would be ‘Pillars of the Earth’ by Ken Follett. It was an unusual book to pick up for me but it is the one that sticks with me the most.
With my illness and the stay home order- I usually read at least a book a day and get a good start on a second.
Welcome to the group, Nan. It's great that you passed your love of reading to the rest of your family. I'm a grandma too and am thrilled that my 9 year old grandson and his 4 year old cousin both like books. His mother works for the public library in Toronto.
I hope you have fun doing our challenges and talking about books.

Hello, I'm Pam. I've always been an avid reader and fantasy is my favorite genre. I'm reading The Dragons of Pern now and then intend to try a new author, perhaps, Brandon Sanderson or Patricia McKillip.
Hi, Pam. Welcome to the group. You joined at a great time, since our genre for April is Fantasy. A lot of members are fantasy fans who enjoy sharing their favourite books and authors. Happy reading. I hope you enjoy our challenges too.

Ni, Chrirstalee! I'm new to this group as well.

Welcome to our group, Mugdha. I hope you have fun doing our challenges. We have a wide variety to choose from.

I love fantasy, sci-fi, thriller, and horror novels, but really I haven't explored that much beyond YA and would love to do so this year. Looking forward to expanding my horizons with classics I never got to, reading challenges, and potentially group readings and discussions :)

I mainly read books on my Kindle (lots of free books there) or I check out ebooks from the library. I read a variety of genres, but cozy mysteries and romance seem to be my main genres.

Hi, Brittany. Welcome to the group! I hope our fun challenges will give you lots of incentive to discover new authors.

I am Puspanjali from India. I have been signing up for Reading Challenges in Goodreads from 2018 but could not complete the challenges. Sometimes it was 50% or some time it was 70%.
In 2020, I am motivated to complete the challenge to read 20 books by end of the year.
Hope to hear from you on book suggestions! :)
Happy Reading!

Hi! I'm Pam in Houston. I have a long road ahead of me to recover from a surgery that didn't go quite as planned. I love to read, but I haven't been reading very much. I hope the GoodReads Challenge group is a place where I can gain some motivation and reading time as a distraction from some struggles. I hope to join for the January discussion.
How do I find the monthly discussion for the books I selected?

Hi, Pamela. Welcome to the group!
I will be setting up the monthly genre thread in the next few days, probably tomorrow.
There will be a separate thread for each month as well as a general challenge thread. You can share your books there and discuss the books as well. We don't have a set book, you can choose whatever book you like for each specific genre.
You can also create your own personal thread to record your reading plans, books read, etc.

I got a Kindle as soon as they came out. I have read 655 books in the last 13 years. I read multiple books at once, which is what the Kindle is so lovely for. Some books I eat up in a day or two, others take more time to think through each chapter.
I’m hoping by joining this Group, I can keep better track of the books I read and achieve my reading goals.
Welcome to the group, Joy. Having your own thread is a great way to organize your reading plans and keep track of books read.
We have a monthly genre challenge to discuss any books we are reading for that category, and biographies is one of the genres for January.
Please feel free to join the discussion.

Hi, Viha. Welcome to the group. The Percy Jaxkson books are a lot of fun.
I hope you reach your challenge goal.
I hope you reach your challenge goal.

I was looking for a group in which I could set my own reading challenge as I have learned that when I "have to" (or feel I have to) read something I become a proficient procrastinator - but when left to my own devices I love to read. Last year was the first time I kept track of my reading and I found I read much more than I thought. I had set a challenge of 18 books and ended up reading 42.
Over the years I have also learned to listen to what reading mood I am in and honour that, so reading challenges appeal to my intellect but apparently not to my soul. I have been slow to accept that about myself - but I am pleased to say that I am getting much better at this. I tend to move between fantasy (eg Trudi Canivan), cosy mystery (Matthew Costello), thriller/mystery (not too violent - Val McDermind), naturalist (can't think of an author off the top of my head), women's literature/historical fiction (loads of authors here - strong female characters are my preference), some personal development (yoga, meditation) and and some humour (Jodi Taylor). I also enjoy audio books and find some books just lend themselves to being read aloud to fully come alive (Fredrik Backman).
I look forward to keeping track of my reading here and visiting in on others reading challenges too.
Welcome to our group, Tonia.

It's always good to be in a career you enjoy. I am retired now but was a teacher for 19 years, after being a stay at home mom.
I have two daughters, each with one child, and being a grandmother is a lot of fun.
You can use any books you have already read in 2020 for our challenges, or you can start from when you joined-your choice.
Happy reading and good luck on your challenges.
