You're welcome, Chrissie. I have never been that far north in Germany, since all my relatives live in the southern part of Germany, but I really want to go there.

message 1107: by Nancy from NJ (new)

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) My name is Nancy and we live in New Jersey. I have been an avid reader a since I was small. Since I was an only child growing up in Manhattan, books were my siblings. Even today they are the best way for me to meet new people and travel the world. I look forward to meeting other members of these groups.

message 1110: by Claire (new)

Claire (zebraclaire) | 47 comments Hi all. I'm Claire. I live in Colorado but I was born and raised in the northwest. I joined this group because I have way, way, WAY too many books on my too-read shelf and am graduating in a few weeks, so I have plenty of time to start making my way through them! I also have way too many challenges all over to keep track of, and want to do my best to meet as many as possible. I figured this would be a good place to start. My goal is to read 2 books a week for 104 this year, I have also set goals to read books by women authors, around the world, nonfiction, and sci fi/fantasy.

I love pretty much any kind of literature but my favorites are probably historical fiction and books that teach a specific subject/textbook types. I like to learn stuff, any stuff! Right now I am reading Do They Hear You When You Cry by Fauziya Kassindja, A Vindication of the Rights of Woman by Mary Wollstonecraft, and Mara, Daughter of the Nile by Eloise Jarvis McGraw. I can't wait to see what you all are planning for 2020!

Lindsey My name is Lindsey and I live on reading. I have been reading since a young age. I love anything related to Doctor Who and Marvel along with YA, Stephen King, history, and memoirs/biographies. I generally will read anything that can catch my attention and pull me in.

I just finished my thesis for my masters and the last several months I was unable to read due to completing the thesis but now I'm done and looking for a teaching job and want to get back into my normal reading. And what better way then some reading challenges.

message 1136: by Jane (new)

Jane (janejonesreviews) | 11 comments Hi group, My name is Jane. I have 2 retirement passions. One is reading. Love a good romance, comtemoary, historical, shifter & time travel. My non-fiction interest is brain studies on how young children learn. Love a good picture book ~ three favorites Bark George & This Troll, That Troll & Pickle Things. Like lots of variety but no fantasy or si-fi. I read at least 200 books most years.

I am currently living in Florida with my 100 yo mom, but my home is in North Carolina. My other passion is designing & making beaded jewelry with tiny tiny beads. Retired in 2012 after over 40 years as an child development educator.

Welcome to the group, Jane. It sounds you are just as busy now as when you were working. I retired over seven years ago and am really enjoying the extra reading time. I help look after my grandkids when needed, especially my grandson. We have had him two days a week since he was one, but now he's nine so it's a lot easier since he's in school.
Happy reading and have fun doing our challenges!

message 1142: by Beth (last edited Jan 27, 2020 01:27PM) (new)

Beth | 3 comments Hi! My name is Elizabeth, and I'm a reader from the US who's gotten into book again since about 2016, when I started the goodreads challenge to keep myself from using the computer and TV too much.

I love most kinds of genres, but I'm picky about follow through and execution of the book (and if its pg-13 or not!). Other than that, I'll read most book genres except romances and horror (with the occasional exception!). Oh, and poetry. Not a huge fan. But one day, who know?

Thanks for reading! Best wishes on everyone's challenges!

[edit]
oh yeah! And my favorite books are The Bears famous invasion of Sicily, Love and First sight, The mixed up files of Mrs Basil e frankenweiler, anything Roald Dahl, Dear Mr. Knightly, and more!

message 1144: by Jamie (last edited Feb 01, 2020 02:37PM) (new)

Jamie | 3 comments Hi all! My name is Jamie from the Netherlands and my new year's resolution is to read more books.

Originally I wanted to start off with 52 books (which is 52 more than I read last year and the year before). But after watching a few YouTube videos about book recommendations and reviews I increased the number to 100 books! I'm curious to see how many books i'll actually read this year because as i'm writing this post i'm 2 books behind schedule. Oops! Still enjoying it though!

My favorite genre is definitely Fantasy. Most of my books on my TBR are in fact fantasy & young adult. I made a personal thread over at the, well, personal thread section, which is 90% fantasy I believe. There are a couple of classics on my TBR list although I do find them quite difficult to read so i'm not sure if i'll enjoy them but we'll see!

message 1148: by Nan (new)

Nan Christine Borton-Smith (nanchristine) | 4 comments Hi, I am new to this group. I live in the alligator capital of the US in Florida. I am an avid reader but have noticed since I started reading on my tablet four years ago vs the library that I’ve narrowed my book selections to recommended reading. I’m looking forward to the challenges and stretching my reading muscles back out.
I used to frequent the library weekly and would grab whatever book caught my interest and my reading was more eclectic.

Rosemarie | 4507 comments Mod
Welcome to the group, Nan! I am sure our challenges will help you read a greater variety of books.

message 1150: by Inkeri (new)

Inkeri Hey everyone! My name is Inkeri and I live in Finland. I enjoy reading almost any genre but I will most likely choose a book with some historical fiction or mystery and cime.

I work as a radiographer in a children's hospital and I love it. I changed careers a couple of years ago and I couldn't be happier about that decision. In my spare time I obvioulsy read but I also like playing simulation or stragedy based computer games. I've also just recently gotten back into knitting and I've almost managed to finish one woollen sock in a two weeks time. Knitting is best while listening to audiobooks by the way.

I have a husband, a dog (labrador retriever) and a cat.

I'm looking forward to trying one or two of the challenges although I might not do too good in them. I love to get into a challenge but I find it that I usually never complete any of them, but that's just fine for me. I find that the best thing about challenges is that I always find something new to read which I normally might not even have thought of reading. It's not about winning, it's about reading.
