Hi Everyone! My name is Alicia, I live SLC, UT. I joined this group because I don't really have any friends who read anymore and so I don't get a chance to discuss what I do read because of that and the book clubs in my area usually meet on nights I'm not able to attend because I work.
I read most genres though my favorite books are usually British procedurals along the lines of Anne Cleeves, Elizabeth George or Benjamin Black.
That being said, this last year I discovered Octavia E. Butler and I've pretty much read all of her work which has taken me into a lot of Science Fiction that I've never really been into before.
I don't think I have a favorite book, there are so many that I love. I suppose my favorite series is probably Outlander but that's basically because I love huge books that I can read over and over again, or skim when I'm feeling down, nothing is better to skim over again than Voyager.
This years challenge 80
Current books read this year: 54
Hi, Alicia. Welcome to the group! I'm glad you found us. We have fun talking about books and doing challenges.
Please feel free to join any of the challenges and conversations.
You can use books you read before joining this group for the challenges, as long as they fit the time frame. Most started in January, but a few started later in the year.

Hi there everyone! My name is Sarah, and this is my first official posting on GoodReads! I am looking forward to getting some inspiring titles to read. I am a huge fan of comedic dramas (not sure what else to call them) like the latest one I read Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine. I also love mysteries and true crime. See y'all on the other side of the page!
Welcome to our group and goodreads, Sarah!
I really hope you enjoy our group. We have lots of fun challenges and discussions, so just make yourself at home here.
Glad you found us!

Hi all I'm from Northumberland in England, Looking forward to joining in the challenges and discussions. Always on the look out for new authors to enjoy. I try to stay away from overly hyped books (although often get sucked in and have read a few recently) as tend to be disappointed in them. I pretty much read most genres but tend to stay away from chick lit / romance and full on fantasy style books but always open expanding my mind! I usually have an audio book on the go alongside a 'real' book although tend to be more picky with the audio books as have to really like the narrator's voice!
A recent favourite read is To Sir with Love by Braithwaite and all time favourite authors include Murakami and du Maurier.
Looking forward to joining in the forums
Jo
Welcome, JoJo. Our group's goal is to have challenges for all sorts of books, for all tastes.
You can use any books you read in 2019 for our challenges.
I generally don't like books that get a lot of hype. I wait a few years and if people are still reading them, I will give them a try then, maybe. I really prefer classics.

Hi! I’m Betty, and I learned to read early, in self-defense! Dad used to change the details in my favorite stories and tell me I couldn’t know he was making things up because I couldn’t read. I enjoy many genres and authors, and I mostly love big books. I like the detail those authors can include. Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series and Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time series are a couple of my favorites.
Hi. I'm Brenda from San Tan Valley, AZ. I joined the group in January and have quietly been completing the monthly challenges. I recently realized that many of the books I've read also meet a few of the other challenges. So, i decided it's time to become more active. Like many of you i always have a book (or 3) I'm reading; although I don't have as much time to read as i would like. My primary 2019 reading goal is working through my TBR pile.
Hi, Betty and Brenda!
Welcome to the group. I hope our challenges are helping you meet your reading goals in a fun way.
Sorry for the late welcome, but I am on vacation in Nova Scotia and got to experience Hurricane Dorian personally. It was exciting, but the lack of electricity and/or internet was more than a bit frustrating.
Glad to have you with us!

Welcome to our group, Bhargavi! I hope you have fun doing our challenges. You can use any books you read in 2019 if they fit the time frame of the challenge. Most of them are year long, with only a few being shorter. Happy reading!
Hi there! I'm Elizabeth, and I live in the beautiful Washington state. I enjoy memoirs and fictions, If there's angst, even better. I recently got back into reading again. Reading for myself has been put on the back burner; my 7 year old prefers Disney and Clifford books aha. I forgot how much I loved, and craved being caught up in another reality.
Hi, I'm Mia and I live in Amsterdam. I've just started university, so I don't have as much time to read as I would like but I try to squeeze in as much reading as possible. I'm very excited to have joined this group, especially as the challenges will make read books on my TBR I've been putting off!
Hi, Mia. Welcome to our group! I hope you have fun doing our challenges. They certainly help me read more!
Welcome to our group, Ruth! Our group gets a new title every year(the year changes) as we start most of our challenges in January.
I am a retired substitute teacher and worked mostly in middle schools. It is an interesting environment to work in.
Please feel free to join our 2019 challenges-and happy reading!

Hiyo, I’m Kayla. I’m trying to get back into reading more (I used to read SO MUCH and now I can go months without picking up a book- I’m ashamed of myself). Some of my favorite books are Pride and Prejudice, Robinson Crusoe, Jane Eyre, The Laughing Cavalier and The Scarlet Pimpernel.
I have 3 months left in the year to complete my goals in 2019. I’m 100% Vietnamese, so, not a native English speaker. Never studied overseas or work overseas, except for short business trips. At the beginning of 2019, I made a promise to myself that by year-end I would complete at least 2 things: 1/ spend more time something I really love - so there we have the 100 books in 2019 target; and 2/ start doing something I’m really scared of - that's when this YouTube comes to live, as public speaking scares me more than going to the doctor's or crossing the busy streets of Saigon.Looking forward to connecting with you all <3
Welcome to our group, An Nhien! Please make yourself at home and join any challenges you like. We also have a monthly genre challenge and this month we're reading classics of our choice.
Rosemarie wrote: "Welcome to our group, An Nhien! Please make yourself at home and join any challenges you like. What a lovely coincidence :)
Good morning all! My name is Kassandra and I've just re-joined this group. I was a member (and moderator) of this group just a couple of years ago and loved it! I'm so happy to see so many familiar faces are still here and still positively contributing to this awesome group. I'm trying now to get back into more reading and thought this group would be a great way to get back into the flow. I love to read but haven't been able to make much time for it so I'm excited to change things around again. I love reading fiction, non-fiction, thriller and some YA, but if I see something that interests me, I'll cross the genre boundary and give it a try. Hope to chat with you all as we work on these challenges!
Welcome back, Kassandra.
I hope you get more time to read again. I find if I don't read every day, I feel like my day was missing something.
Glad you rejoined!

Thanks, Rosemarie! I hear what you're saying about something being missing - now that I'm getting back into it, I'm beginning to feel the same way.

Hi everyone I’m Kimi! :) I can’t wait to start reading more books again. I sort of lost track and wasn’t able to set aside time to read. I want to get my head out of my phone and grab a good old book to read instead. I’m hoping this group will sort of keep me motivated to stick to reading everyday. I can’t wait to set goals and reach them. Looking forward to get to know y’all

Hi - My name is Marianne. I’m not new per se. I was a member about 2 years ago but had to quit as my mother in law was passing away, and I just didn’t have time to readMy first book that I read on my own was when I was 6. It was The Wizard of Oz. This book opened up a world for me and I never looked back.
Hi my name is Rachel and I am from Oregon. Been an avid reader almost my whole life. I kind of got out of the habit the last few years but have recently taken it back up. I joined this group in hopes of doing just that. I do read actual books but do love a good audiobook as well. Some of my favorites are James Patterson, Lianne Moriarty, Elin Hilderbrand, Emily Giffin to name a few. Always up for a good suggestion though. Let's get reading!
Welcome to our group, Rachel. Quite a few members of our group enjoy audio books. I am sure our challenges will get you reading more.
