Julie Landers Hi, My name is Julie. I am looking to a reading group this next year. I love reading romance, non fiction, fiction, mystery books. I look forward to next year's reading challenge.

message 56: by Monique (new)

Monique (monty454) | 130 comments Hi
I'm Monique from Berkshire, UK. I have been a member of this group for some time but forgotten to introduce myself...sorry!

I love all genre of books, I would say the only ones I tend to avoid are the romance genre, but who knows things could change.

I love this challenge, but fell short by 4 books for this year, so plan to give a real push for my target of 20 books for 2015.

As a busy working mum, don't get that much time to read. My other personal challenge for 2015 is to be a bit more active on the groups side of things.

Hope you all had a good Christmas!!!!

message 62: by Allison (new)

Allison Patterson (gatorgirrrl) Hi everyone. I'm Allison and I live in Victoria, BC, Canada.

I did the challenge last year and surpassed my goal of 30 books. I'm going for 40 this year!

I like novels and also memoirs. You can also throw some mysteries my way and I am happy.

This year I want to read more Canadian authors (always a goal) and also read some classics. I've never read Little Women or Huck Finn...so will look for suggestions like those books.

Happy 2015 everyone!

message 63: by Kassandra (new)

Kassandra | -1 comments Welcome to the group Allison. It's always nice to see a fellow Canadian!

message 64: by [deleted user] (new)

Hello,
Franky here from Bristol .
I love reading and will read just about anything!
I also like challenges so I think I might be well suited for this reading group.
I'm just finishing 'peeling the onion ' the memoirs of Gunter Grass.... Well worth the read.
Looking forward to chatting with you all.
X

Sneha (snehapriya) Hi! This is Sneha. I like fiction, fantasy, comedy, romance, mystery, crime... just about anything actually. I find it hard to read non fiction and I'm trying to start reading them this year.
I am starting this year with Shakespeare's THE TAMING OF THE SHREW and I'd like to finish 50 books by the end of 2015.

Hello! I was already planning some personal challenges before I saw this group, and thought it looked perfect for helping me stay on track. My main challenges are going to be for reading books that I already own, as well as making progress with series I've started, but I'm also looking to expand my horizons a little, so I'm planning to join some of the mini challenges.

Is there any way to create more challenge widgets?? They are really cool.

message 70: by Jess (new)

Jess (b00ksandqu0tes) Hello!

I'm trying to become more organized, hence my taking to goodreads again to actually try updating!

I'm a middle school and high school teacher of just about everything: World Cultures and Geography (sixth), Reading Intervention (seventh), Algebra II (ninth) and MYP Theatre (ninth).

I love reading all kinds of books, but have really slacked in the past couple of years. However, I am so ready to get back on the bandwagon and have books to share with my scholars and to prove my love for reading!

I'm so excited!

message 71: by Renee (new)

Renee | 6 comments Hi all, I'm Renee. After several years of simply not having much time to read (I know that sounds impossible, but going back to school for a second bachelor's degree, on top of working full time, really did have that effect) I'm *finally* able to read again! While I'm planning to spend time catching up with some (many?) of my favorite authors, I'd hoping to find some new favorites as well. This seems like a great place to both hear about new authors and interact with other avid readers!

I probably read mysteries more than anything else, but I also love SF, Fantasy, Chick Lit and, honestly, anything that seems interesting and exciting. One of my goals for this year is to read more non-fiction.

message 72: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn Davey | 1 comments Hello, my name is Kathryn and I'm from Llanelli, South Wales. I'm hoping to increase how many books i read in 2015 and also broaden my genre of books i enjoy.
My favourite authors are Cecelia Ahern, Jenny Colgan, Bernadette Strachan, Rowan Coleman and Carole Matthews.
Has anyone got suggestions of other similar writers?

message 73: by Steve (new)

Steve Gillway (spireite) Hello, My name is Steve.
I like moving between genres fiction - I try to read about different cultures, non-fiction _ I like reading about music (biographies etc.) and listening along, crime - Sherlock Holmes type stuff and science fiction - a growing interest.
I look forward to getting tips about good stuff that I don't know about.

message 74: by Kassandra (new)

Kassandra | -1 comments Welcome to the group Kathryn and Steve!

Kathryn, I've been to Llanelli many times, it's lovely. I have family in Cardiff and Merthyr. If you like Cecelia Ahern (she's also one of my go-to authors), you may like Marian Keyes as well.

message 89: by Ieva (last edited Jan 06, 2015 02:53AM) (new)

Ieva (ievagmbtt) Hello! My name is Eve, and I'm quite new to the whole discussing in the groups thing, but since I found this group today, I thought why not give it another try. So I'm from the UK and am a college student, who often get's tired of only reading textbooks! Hopefully, this group will provide me with great recommendations, as I was very excited to see that you include classics in the monthly reading challenges (and that's all I am about! I love classics!). Other genres that interest me, not including the classics, are contemporary, memoirs, and biographies. :)

Hi, My name is Dani and I have so many books I want to get through this year.
I am having the dilemma of having new books I want to read (currently have two Cecelia Aherne books ready and one started) and also want to reead some of those magical books that have stayed with mw (Harry Potter and Angelas Ashes) so many books so little time!! I have set me challenge to 25 so on my marks... get set!!

message 92: by Becki (new)

Becki Basley (rlbasley) | 15 comments Hi My name is Becki. I'm 41 and I just completed my 2nd Masters degree last year(this one in Emergency mangement and my first one is in Gerontology). So I was looking for something else to challenge myself with and the 3 challenges sounded interesting and fun. Let's see I usually read history books, autobiographies, steampunk, and historical fiction. But I'm always willing to go outside my comfort zone to read something different. Favorite Authors: Rick Riordan, Michelle Moran, Bec MacMaster, Jean Auel, Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman, Amy Tan, CJ Henderson, Margaret Kiljoy, Augusten Burroughs, and of course Rose Wilder Lane. The going joke in our family is bring a book into the house and between the three of us, one of us will read and like it.

message 97: by Claire (new)

Claire Gordon (dizzyclaire) | 1 comments Hiya! I'm Claire, I'm 24 years old and a retail manager in a shoe store. I dive into a new book after work most nights of the week and beat my goal of 52 books for the 2014 Reading Challenge. This year I'm aiming for 75 and have also committed myself to writing at least a brief review of every book I read.

I have a soft spot for the Fantasy genre but am going to push myself to get back into some different genres as well this year. Looking forward to seeing what it means to be part of a group on Goodreads! Happy reading ya'll!

message 98: by Kassandra (new)

Kassandra | -1 comments Welcome to the group Claire! Best of luck with your goals in 2015.

message 99: by Odette (last edited Jan 13, 2015 09:35AM) (new)

Odette | 7 comments Hi everyone, I'm Odette, from the Netherlands and am fairly new to GR. My love for books before I could even read (apparently 'The story of the little mole who went in search of whodunit' was a big favourite of mine) and compiling them into endless lists brought me here. I've set myself the challenge of reading 50 books this year, seeing that I'm a busy student working on my graduate thesis but also like to set little reading challenges for myself or participate in them.

The genres I love are mainly fiction (historical, classics, some romance, mystery-murders and so on) and occasionally a semi-autobiographic book. Some favourite authors: Austen, Dickens, Wharton, Dahl, Lindgren, Funke,le Carré, Hosseini and many more contemporary authors. Oh, and of course Harry Potter, I grew up with those books and still love to read them <3
