If you have time, you can check out our challenges and see how other members use the site. Our goal is to have fun as we read books. The only thing you need to do to be active is to join in wherever you want- and decide which challenges you want to do.
There are also threads for specific questions regarding various challenges.

elly | 1 comments Hi, I'm Elly! I'm 18 and from South Australia! I've been on goodreads for a few years and only really used it to track books I've read, and books still on my TBR shelf, but I though I'd look into what else I can use goodreads for and found the "readathon groups" (while looking for a way to cut down my TBR more effectively).
I'm a uni student (well about to be!), love reading and writing and my favourite book series is of course Harry Potter!

My goal this year is to read 50 books and I'm a tenth of the way there so far.

message 803: by Isabel (new)

Isabel | 9 comments Hi all,

My name is Isabel and I'm from Upstate New York. I'm a little late joining this group (officially missed the January challenge, but I'm going to read something from the category anyway).

I pretty much will read any genre but some of my favorites are mystery/thrillers, drama, nonfiction (medical), and science fiction/fantasy.

My goal is to read a minimum of 96 books this year.

message 804: by Dee (new)

Dee (Hiatus through mid-Sept.!) Hello! I'm Dee from southern California. Like Isabel above me I will do the January challenge, too.
I try to read 100 books a year - if successful this year, it will be my 5th year in a row. I read primarily women's fiction, chick lit, psych thrillers, historical fiction and new releases, that I borrow from the library as much as possible. I also volunteer at our local library where I help run the used Bookstore which also gets me some good books.
Alway open to new friends here on GR.

Lady (ladyillusive) Hi all, my name is Lady (nickname). I am a major bibliophile! I have well over 3,000+ ebooks and 300+ paper/hardback books. I started reading when I was about 3 1/2 and have been obsessed ever since. I read any and everything I can get my hands own, in order to build my collection to massive heights. I hope one day in the I can add my own book to my collection. Yeah, so that's me, glad to join the group. =)

message 811: by Gins (new)

Gins Cheung (saintkid) | 1 comments Hi, I’m Gins from China. Currently I’m a university student studying mechanical engineering. I’m a natural book-lover. Reading and hanging out in a bookstore have been my most enjoyable times since I could read as a toddler. Four years ago I started reading in English and since then I’ve read all genres of books I could possibly find in a local town bookstore written in English, though it’s been far more easily to get books I want nowadays with the developing of online bookstore and e-book. Only recently I’ve found goodreads.com and immediately I fell in deep love with this site. After all it’s a site which I believe all book-lovers would love to keep on their favorites list. Now I’ve set my reading goal of 2018 of 50 books(it’s not a big one because I have to take time to prepare for my post- graduate examinations). It’s a real pleasure to join this group and I hope I can spend a very good time here with you guys, thanks!! :)

Hi, Gins. Welcome to our group. I have learned about so many great books since joining goodreads. I also really enjoy talking with other book-lovers, like you. A goal of 50 books is fantastic for a university student. I hope each book is a good one.

message 813: by Hali (new)

Hali | 43 comments Hi, I'm Hali from the UK. I read any book that is intriguing! I've joined the group as I want to finish this 90 book list I've had for years :) Had to stop myself from adding any books as I have a habit of searching for new books while I've got plenty of books to read at home. Look forward to participating in the group.

Hi, Hali. Welcome to the group.
Your experience is very similar to mine. Every year I tell myself that I will not buy anymore books until have read a certain number. Of course, that doesn't last long.
Hope you have a good time doing the challenges. We have two specifically aimed at reducing those lists: Buyer's Remorse and Dust the Shelf.

message 815: by Heather (new)

Heather W | 1 comments Hi, I'm Heather. I currently live in the UK and I found this group while exploring Goodreads. My favorite books include ready player one, And then there were None (basically anything by Agatha Christie). I am looking forward to discussing books with people and if you want to add me on here please feel free :D xx

Hope to enjoy many discussions with other people in this group, if you would like to add me as a friend, then please do...the more, the merrier :)

My *favorite* authors are Jane Austen, Anthony Trollope, and Fyodor Dostoevsky. I tend to read lots of classics, also non-fiction, YA, and some cozy mysteries. BUT I will read (almost) anything.

Time will tell how good I will be at updating my challenges :-)

Michelle Best Hello everyone

I’m Michelle from Bolton

Was an avid reader as a child (I used to copy out of old encyclopedias & scared myself witless reading Mum’s Stephen King & James Herbert books) but not been reading so much as I’ve got older.

I’m studying nutrition at the moment so need some fiction to balance out all the science. That said I am a massive fan of non-fiction as I love to learn.

message 838: by Chloé (last edited Apr 09, 2018 06:34PM) (new)

Chloé (cebscales) | 7 comments Hi, my name is Chloe (or CB)! I teach Latin and Special Ed, so many of my favorite books relate to one or both of those topics. I love anything about mythology or ancient history/philosophy, so nonfiction is what I seek out on my own, but of course I love Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson series (and Kane Chronicles because Ancient Egypt is my true favorite). My recent favorites have been This Is How It Always Is, Out of My Mind, and I actually was pretty hooked on the Lunar Chronicles for the student-led book club that I co-sponsor (I like YA novels and dystopian/sci-fi stories). My all-time favorites are probably The Little Prince and works by Roman authors, like Ovid, Vergil, and Seneca. I also love Jane Austen and the Brontes!

I'm trying to read as much as I can this year, and I'm open to many different recommendations! I like any good novel, but sometimes I have trouble picking one to start with because the books on my own list are usually nonfiction. I'm excited to be in the group and to get ideas for what to read!

Hi, Chloe. Welcome to our group. I actually have fond memories of Latin class and was glad when both my daughters studied Latin for a while.
I am a retired teacher and know just how special most "special ed" teachers are and how important their work is.
We have lots of fun challenges to give you ideas of what to read next, but be warned, your to-read list will grow faster than you can read the books. 😉📚

Hi Rosemarie! I appreciate that you and your daughters have some Latin experience, and it's always nice to connect with other teachers! I can't wait to get involved with some challenges, and I'd always rather have a to-read list that's too long to handle than one that's too short! :)

My cat forgets that there is food in her bowl, poor thing. She is getting old. She loves to open cupboard doors, especially in the kitchen.
