Welcome to our group, Suzy. We have so many challenges to choose from that should help you get reading again. The number of books in your challenge is not as significant as the fact that you enjoy reading again. I find that I get lots of reading ideas from the books other members have read and commented on. Enjoy!

Carol Avelar (carolzinhavelar) | 3 comments Hi Susy, I love reading, but I don't have much time, my job is stressful and demands a lot of my time, and when I go home, there is a little baby waiting for me... but usually I read when I'm going to work in the bus.
Don't worry about the challenge, my goal is 15 books this year, but in the beginning it was 12 books, but I've decided to be more audacious and changed to 15 books.

Yes, my job is highly stressful too, so when I get home I don't have any further obligations but am just too tired to read or when I do read I just fall asleep, which I find quite frustrating cause that never used to happen to me.
I'm secretly hoping to read more than 12 books myself, but don't change my goal so I can feel super glorious if I succeed hahaha. Also I really want to focus on enjoying the book as Rosemarie said. I feel I'm a bit too focused on how much I read right now instead of just enjoying the book/story!

Anna | 3 comments hello, everyone! I`m Ann, and I`m really a bookworm! I took the challenge of reading 1000 books this year and only then realized, how difficult to find 1000 new books this year, the4 majority I`v read already... so, I`ll be gratefull for the advices! I`m completely in love with classic, but the main things I want from the author are good language and style.

Have you read any Canadian authors? I live in Canada. Two authors I really like are Gabrielle Roy and Margaret Laurence. Then, of course, there are the Anne of Green Gables books. That author wrote many other books, the "Emily" books are my favourites. I like them better than the Anne books.

Thanks a lot! I've read Anne of Green Cable books, as well as all books about Emily. I liked them since my childhood. But the first two authors I'll try definitely. Thank you

Barbara Hello everyone, My name is Barb, and I'm in Phoenix, Arizona. I have no one genre I read, but I am in love with so many books. Anne of Green Gables, Harry Potter, The Name of the Wind, The Thirteenth Tale, Outlander, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks....
My hands would go numb typing all the books I love. Anyway, I've spent years after graduate school committed to mostly nonfiction. Period. What a fool... starting about five years ago, I've been playing catch up on fiction and shake my head at my previous stubbornness. Inspire me with your favorites! I'll read nearly anything you throw at me now :)

ChronicallyReading | 18 comments Hello my name is Lindsay... (Ketsuki is a nickname I suppose?)
I'm from Canada.
My favourite genre happens to be fantasy. (I also tend to read YA)
At this very moment in time, my favorite books/authors are
ACOTAR (1-3) by Sarah J Maas
The Mortal Instrument series by Cassandra Claire
I hunt killers by Barry Lyga
Carry On by Rainbow Rowell
Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling
Miss Peregrines home for peculiar children By Ransom Riggs
and so much more.

I'm looking forward to being challenged while in this club.

Rosemarie~ I've read two of the Anne of Green Gables series. I LOVE Anne. Haven't read the Emily series though, and you've intrigued me, saying you like it better. I loved the first Anne book... she's a hoot!

Hi Anna~ you have quite a challenge set for yourself! Wow! Lot of books is right. Here's a few of my favorites from the last few years:
The Thirteenth Tale
Sky Burial
Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon
The Bell Jar
A Beautiful Mind
Nightfall and Other Stories
Prodigal Summer
Poisonwood Bible
The Heart is the Lonely Hunter
The Time Traveler's Wife
The Red Tent
The Secret Garden
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks

Just a few. You said you're in Russia, and, obviously, there many amazing Russian writers who have influenced the writing world, like Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky. Would love to hear how you progress on your impressive challenge.

Poliana | 3 comments Hi everyone! I'm Poliana I'm from Brazil and this is my very first group so I'm still learning how this works haha. I don't have a fav genre, if it's a good book I'm here for it! But I do love the Harry Potter series since I was a kid and I've been reading lots of fantasy lately. That's it and I look forward to knowing y'all and sharing my reading experience with you xx

DebbieK | 8 comments everybody, my name is Debbie (56) from Macclesfield, UK, and I have just joined your group. It looks really great, and I really don't know why I haven't joined earlier, but egh oh... I got there eventually. I am looking forward to reading all your comments and will reply when I can get away from my studying. I am presently doing a masters in publishing and I must admit I find it very challenging at times, but I will get there in the end. But what do you do when your brain is rather frazzled by it all? (Lol) Anyway, I am so pleased I have joined the group. Looking forward to reading your comments. All the best Debbie

DebbieK | 8 comments Thank you very much. I am looking forward just to read for pleasure. Only three months to go. What sort of books do you like reading and what do you like writing?

Debbie x

message 625: by Barbara (new)

Barbara I read lots of everything! I always read mostly nonfiction, but have been on a fiction kick for about five years: Harry Potter, Anne of Green Gables, the Brontes, Austen, The Thirteenth Tale, Outlander, The Book Thief, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, Atonement, some Sherlock Holmes.... I'm all over the map. Yourself? What are your picks?

I've been writing a book that sews several lives together with (what I think is) an unusual connection. I need to sit a little more and write the main part of the book, but the peripheral stories I'm mostly done with. Hopefully I'll finish in 6-9 months.

Looking forward to hearing of your favorites. I'll be in Scotland next year but have yet to make it to England! Your area looks beautiful. <>

For some flavour, my Top 10 Books at the moment are:
Don Quixote

Shogun
Count of Monticristo
The Magus
The Mind Illuminated
Kafka on the shore
The Wind-up bird chronicle
Siddharta
The Wizard of Earthsea

Thanks for reading, Jeremy

Hi, Jeremy, welcome to the group and to goodreads. Here is a friendly and slightly tongue- in- cheek warning--the challenges in this group are wonderfully addictive. I will have to live to 200 to read all the books on my to- read list!
Seriously though, I have learned about so many great books since joining goodreads and read and enjoyed books I had been avoiding for years, like Dracula and Edgar Allan Poe.

DebbieK | 8 comments Hi Barbara, you know, I honestly can't say what my favourites are as I a seem to go through phases of reading different genres. At the moment, I am interested in memoirs. Last month, I wanted to read popular books such as The Girl on the Train, Me Before You, If You Love Me.. very easy reading. Then a few months ago, I went back to literary fiction, reading George Orwell's books again... all very mixed.

I see you like the Bronte sisters. I was at the Bronte museum not long ago. It was very interesting.

Keith (emperiux) Hello, everyone! I am new to this group. I am from Ohio, am looking to REALLY get into reading. I have always wanted to make it a hobby but I have had a bit of a tough time trying to make it a permanent habit. My interests are crime/suspense. I love Stephen King, and I am a moderate fan of Dean Koontz. Anyone have any ideas for me to use to wake my inner bookworm? My current goal for my summer is to read at least 2 books.

message 638: by Keith (new)
