I was in a book shop today and my friend found this book. I read the blurb and didn't look at the title (silly me) and even she can't remember the name of the book.

All the blurb mentioned was that the book was split into four parts and could be read in any order and it would still make sense in the end no matter which order you read it in. It didn't say anything about the story itself.

The cover had gold swirls on it, if that helps.

The cover on Goodreads is not as you described, but if you Google image search there is an alternate cover, black with a gold spiral.
