It is very useful in lots of places. I always add the series name & number to titles if I come across ones that are missing.

In this case it is one and the same series, so it should not be duplicated and edistions should be listed with the series title they were published under. I will clean this out.
It is, however, possible that a book belongs to more than one series. If that's the case that title should be formatted:
Book Title (Series Title 1 #x; Series title 2 #y)

But the system does and it looks like a lovely Librarian is working on restoring the records."
Which you could also do, Ian. If you click on 'Goodreads Librarian' underneath your avatar on your profile, you get a list of your edits.
ETA Sorry, I see you are an author, not a Goodreads Librarian, although you obviously have editing rights.
Please, in future, whenever you do edits, check if they are according to policy.

I think it helps with searches by series title to have one there.
If series have different titles in different countries we should use edition specific series name in the parenthesis. This will also apply if the series was re-titled - editions published with the old series title will keep it. (And these are more reasons to keep series titles in the title field)
